The following loiter, recently received from 1st Lt. James
(1. Smith. ASTP athletic officer, is printed to give readers an
insight into official feeling regarding the proposed basketball
pa itie -between the Lincoln Air Rase Raiders and an All-Star
ehib chosen from the various army uits on the campus.
Dear Mr. Anderson:
I have road your numerous articles in the column ' Second
Guessing" with interest and pleasure, and wish to thank you
for the interest and enthusiasm which you have shown in the
Army basketball season.
Your repeated request for an all-star game against tho
Lincoln Air Field liaiders is an excellent suggestion and one
which is being seriously considered by the proper authorities.
I would like to point out, however, that there are several points
to be considered before such a game could be played. An all
star game would seriously slow down our Army league sched
ule. A suitable date Mould have to be arranged and the coli
seum would have to be available.
You may be assured that every effort is beinsr made 1
speedily arrange this game, which should provide a brand of
basketball of interest to civilian and military students as well
as the sporls enthusiasts of Lincoln.
Sineerelv vours.
JAMES G. SMITH,
1st Lt., A I S,
Athletic Officer.
We appreciate Lieutenant Smith's interest in the proposed
game, and it pleases us to learn that the proper authorities are
giving serious consideration to the matter. We only hope, now,
that the obstacles cited by Lieutenant Smith can be overcome
and the game played at an early date.
