By Peggy Cowan, Mary Kerrigan.
Off with the old, on with the
new! The trend in this year's
evening coats is away from the
staid black velvet of former years
to new brilliant jewel colors in
flannel, wool, or velvet. Reds,
greens, violets, pinks all will be
seen.
Often as not these new coats
have a military silhouette with
flashing gold or silver buttons
marching down the front. Swoop
ing capes are also seen this sea
son. Ruth Conklin has chosen one
in black velvet.
Pink brocade
A pink brocaded evening coat
is chosen by Anne Kinder, Pi Phi.
A fur-line hood distinguishes the
black velvet coat of Dede Mc
Clelland, Tri Delt, which is fitted
and floor length.
Blond Dorothy Wind has chosen
a turquoise blue slipper satin for
her formal dress. Her black vel
vet cape with its hood is lined
with the same satin. Mary Lee
Adams, Alpha Chi, has a white
tweed wool fitted coat appliqued
with gold kid.
Scarlet is the color chosen by
Pi Phi Gay Gaden and Alpha Chi
Phyllis Smith for their evening
wraps. Gay's is a cape with
ermine trim. Phyllis' is a fitted

Elaine Jordan of the Alpha Chi
domicile will go formal in a beau
tiful manner in red chiffon, with a
low cut back. With the dress she
will wear gold accessories.
Fitted princess lines in stiff blue
satin characterize Alpha Xi Delta
Lois Owen's ball dress. The dress
is strapless, with an unusual
"cuff" top.
