Drivers Will Obtain New
State Licenses at
Court House.
Stricter enforcement of traffic
and parking rules will be put into
effect during the coming school
year, according to report from Spt.
L. C. Regler of the campus police.
Renewed emphasis will he placed
m the giving nf warning signals
by the driver.
Parking spaces reserved for fac
ulty mojnners are. the spaces be-
hind the . School of Music and
Chemistry buildings and between
12th and 14th on the south half
of the mall. Students are warned
not to park their cara within those
spaces nor on red lines. Warning
tags will be issued for first offense.
Second offenders will be subject to
arrest. Speed limit for campus driv
ing has been placed at 18 miles
per hour.
Cautions have also been issued
against double parking at football
or basketball games, and pedestri
ans are warned against jaywalking
and walking against the rod light.
Several fines have been placed on
such charges. State drivers' li
censes, which must be obtained he
fore Oct. 1, are being issued at the
office of the county treasurer at
the courthouse. Applicants must
successfully pass a visual exami
nation before obtaining a license.
A fee of $1.00 has been set for
new licenses. Renewals may be ob
tained for 75 cents.
At the University of Manitoba
they ised coeds to separate reluc
tant collegians from their nickels
and dimes, in soliciting community
chest fund. A group of "beautiful
freshettes" went around the cam
pus giving any and all men the
well known shakedown. Quoth a
scribe on the Manitoban, "These
gals may know little about baking
bread, but they do know plenty
about getting dough."
Wealth is more equitably dis
tributed among married men than
among bachelors, says a recent
survey.

To Open Program.
First open meeting of the. Palla
dian Literary Society i.s scheduled
for Friday, Sept. 21, at the Pal
ladia! hall on the third floor of the
Temple theater. All unaffiliated
men and women students inter
ested in membership in the society
ar? invited to attend
The Palladia)! Literary Society
is the oldest student organisa
tion on the Nehr,Tlia campus,
having been organised only a
short time after Ilie opening of
the university in 171. Its pur
pose is primarily to furnish so
cial life to unaffiliate,! men and
women, rncnurage high scholar
ship, and provide an opportu
nity for its members to develop
in various lines.
Closed Meeting Monday.
Closed business meetings are
held Monday evenings thruout
the school year, with open pro
gram meetings each Friday eve
ning in Palladian hall on the
third floor of the Temple to
which all students, both men and
women are invited. A variety of
rr.iertairunent is planned for the
year, members sometimes fur
nishing the program, while at
other times men and women
from outside the organization
are jnviud to appear befoie the
group. Parties, banquets, picnics,
and other events also are on the
year's schedule.
Officers for the first semester
are Jeanette Osborn, president;
Louis Lundstrom, vice-president;
Robert Holland, treasurer; Gladys
Swift, program secretary, and

local photographer wanted a pic
ture of the house where the uni-
! versity girls are in quarantine and

peared on the front porch, more
than anxious to be photographed.
