THE DAILY NEBRASKA Cornhuskers Have Chance to Avenge Oklahoma for Defeat of Last Year Sooner Eleven, Hailed as On of Strongest Team ia Valley, Conrn For Contest on Nebraska Field Saturday Next Snturday jn Nebraska Mem orial stadium, the Nebraska Cornhus kers fare the task of avenfrinfr the defeat they suffered last year at the hands of the Oklahoma Sooners. The Sooner eleven has been im proving steadily since the start of the season, and is hailed as ono of the strongest of the Valley teams. Although the Oklahoma team suffer ed an early season defeat at the hands of the Kansas Apples, it since has turned the tables on Drake, a team which has walloped the Kansas Agrjries, has beaten Grinnell and has won from Washington. Drake now stands with three Valley wins apainst one Valley loss, branding it as one of the strongest contenders for the 1925 Valley honors. And the team that defeated Drake is the team that the Huskers face next Saturday. The mere fact that the Sooners have improved cnoufjh to defeat the Drake team, after Drake had defeat ed the Kansas Aggies goes a long way to prove that thi Oklahoma team has a real right to gridiron honors. The 1925 Sooner aggrega tion is heavier, faster, and generally more dangerous than was the eleven which last year defeated the Unske-s 14 to 6. Two Men Return to Squad Oklahoma recently has been ma terially strengthened by the return to the Sooner camp of Ray LeCrone, 189-pound fullback, and "Firpo" Wilcox, 220-pound tackle. LeCrone was injured in the Kansas Aggie game at Manhattan and was out of the Sooner lineup until last Satur day when he faced the Southern Methodist eleven and aided his team mates to secure a 9 to 0 victory over the strong Mustang team. Wilcox, who was a regular on the 1923 eleven, only last week became eligible. He is slated to hold down a regular tackle when the Sooners meet the Huskers Saturday. With Wilcox in the lineup, the Sooner forward wall probably will outweigh the Husker line. Weight statistics from the Oklahoma camp ahow that Ben Owen's eleven will av erage between 188 and 190 pounds per man in the forward wall, and be tween 173 to 175 in the backfield. This would give the Sooners a weight advantage in both the line and the backfield. Halfback Who Averages Forty Yards on Punts i M NORMAN, Oct. (Special) With only a small group of veterans about which to build a football team. Coach Bennie Owen is turn ing his attention to the first year , men on the Sooner sqund for re- j lief. Among he yearlings who , have shown up well for this season Is Frank Totts, 190 pound halfback, who captained the freshman squad last year. He is a good defense , man, an accurate passer and a hard-hitting plunger. Although he had never punted before, Potts , started out to learn the kicking game during the summer when it became evident that he might be called on to do the booting this year. He averages 40 yards with his kicks and should be able to hold his own with other conference punters before the season ends. evening primrose unfold their petals in the Broadway night clubs. terrible time getting away the test was set during final examination and of course I didn't want tho fellow to know what I was doing. Young Mr. Rogers, incidentally, has translated his Kansas background into a Charles Ray appeal thnt ought to bo worth a million to him before j many years are over. Ona Picked in Lobby Others of the group found their wny into a celluloid career more by accident than by design. Walter Goss, a New York newspaper man, was standing in the lobby of a mo tion picture theater when a passing director invited him to take a film test Irving Hartley, a press photo grapher, was first told of his screen possibilities by Dorothy Gish when he photographed her on shipboard upon her arrival from Europe. All my life I used to think about being a screen star, but I never imagined that I'd really get the chance. I used to spend all my j spare money going to picture shows i and buying movie magazines. Gee, it's just too wonderful to be real." All but two of them attended college, and one wears the golden key of Phi Beta Kappa, "We prefer college students," one of the directors said. "They have in telligence, they know how to' concentrate, and they have enough social background so that a lot of good time isn't wasted teaching them the rudiments of man ners." From the time that they arrived at the Paramount school the stu dents were plunged into a schedule that allows barely enough time for food and none at all for getting l-ght-struck on the great White Way.
