ENTER VALLEY RACE
Joie Ray and Ray Watson Will
Compete in Special Half
Mile Run.
"As great as the Notre Dame
game," slogan for the Missouri Val
ley championship track meet at Lin
coln May 24, is fast coming to reali
sation as the entry lists record the
names of some of the prmier track
and field athletes in the country. The
special half-mile run between Joie
Ray, champion half miler of the
United States, and Ray Watson, will
be one of the added attractions that
will make the classic meet an event
long to be remembered in sport an
nals of Nebraska.
The 1924 Valley meet is the first
conference championship meet that
Nebraska will be host to. The new
Husker track on stadium field will
I be on of the fastest cinder paths in
'the west on the day of the meet, and
Valley records can be expected to
I topple if the weather is at all fav
orable.
" Everychool in the Valley confer
ence has sent in entry lists for the
championship meet. Oklahoma A.
and M. has entered a complete team
m-sn entered in every event. Tar
kio college of Missouri has entered
one man in the two-mile run. Other
entries from non-conference schools
are expected this coming week. Col
leges in state 3 where Valley confer
ence schools are located are eligible
for ntry in the meet.
The meet is of special importance
this year on account of its rank as
an accredited preliminary meet for
the American Olympics tryouts. Win
ners in the meet here on May 24 will
be eligible for entry in the all-American
tryouts at New York and Cam
bridge. It will be the first opportunity
that Nebraskans have ever had of
seeing the Valleys finest performers
on a Nebraska cinder path. The meet
is being advertised throughout the
state as widely as the Notre Dame
and Syracuse football games of last
fall, and many out-state people are
expected to come to Lincoln for the
meet. As an additional attraction for
visitors there will be the military
exhibition on ,the fair ground by
United States troops, reserve offi
cers, and local military organizations.
