Entered at the pcstofflce at Lincoln, Nebraska, as second class
mall matter under the Act of Congress of March 3, 1879.
Baseball has again been made a varsity sport at Nebraska.
According to the Missouri valley conference rules, no one has been
allowed to play on a conference baseball team If he has played the
game professionally.
When the eligibility of players has been investigated, some of the
schools have been rather unscrupulous in their declarations. Nebraska
has refused to forget her principles, and as a result, there has not been
enough material in the school for a good team.
Now, there is a new understanding in the Conference, and men who
play on quasi-professional teams in the summer, Instead of selling alum
inum ware, or magazines, can play on a university team.
The other universities In the conference were anxious to have
Nebraska as a rival in baseball as well as football and Nebraska is
anxious to have another means of "showing them a few things."
A game has been scheduled with Missouri, for next year. It has
been several years since Nebraska has met Missouri and the name
looks good on next year's program.
Syracuse university has asked to play the Thanksgiving game
with Nebraska, in Lincoln, and there is a question whether Nebraska
shall play the eastern team or schedule another game with Notre
Dame.
We know what Notre Dame can do. They have a good team and
a wide reputation. But on the other hand, a game with Syracuse would
be a far better advertising proposition for the University, especially
if Nebraska should win. Syracuse plays such, schools as Colgate,
Brown, Harvard, Yale and Michigan. Notre Dame plays almost ex
clusively with mid-western schools, in practically the same part of
the country.
If Notre Dame should bring a crowd to the Thanksgiving game,
surely Syracuse, traveling half way across the continent, would bring
more than a crowd.
Kansas again! This time it is a debate between Nebraska and
the Jayhawks. According to the Daily Kansan, the team is coining
up here Wednesday evening to "beat 'em again."
Surely if Nebraska can't "walk away" with victory it can talk it
away!

BRIEF BITS OF NEWS
Cards announcing the beginning of
Christmas vacation Tuesday, Decem
ber 19; at 6 p. m., have been posted
around the University. Some grumb
ling has been found with the new
plan, as it deprives the students of
one week end at home. Under the
old system, with vacation commencing
on Friday and ending Monday, three
week ends could be enjoyed at home.
This year there will be but two. The
vacation Is also shortened two days.

DRAMATIC CLUB IN
"PENSION SCHOELLER"
LARGE AUDIENCE'ENJOYED PLAY
IN FOREIGN TONGUE
Axel Swenson Distinguished Himself
In the Leading Role Music by
Club Orchestra
A large and enthusiastic audience
witnessed "Pension Schoeller," one of
the best comedies ever produced by
the German Dramatic club, at the
Temple theatre, Saturday night. Not
only did University students, but also
the general public of Lincoln enjoyed
the many unique situations in which
Axel Swenson as Herr Klapproth,
found himself. This Is not the first
time that Mr. Swenson has pleased
his audience with his ease and versa
tility upon the stage.
Other parts especially well taken
were those of Magdelene Craft, as
Josephine Krueger, who eagerly
utilized every opportunity to add to
her material for romantic novels;
Frlederich Rabe, as Alfred Klapproth;
Martha Winter, as Ulrike Sprosser;
Anna Luckey, as Ida Sprosser; Her
mine Hatfield, as Amalie Pfeiffer, and
Gerhard Naber as Bernhardy. Alfred
Hinze as Eugen Rumpel, an aspiring
actor, received much applause.
The orchestra of the club played
some very interesting and appropriate
selections during intermissions. The
orchestra included the Misses Ander
son, Lorenzon, Schulte and Messrs.
Luckey, Kier, Keimer, Redelfs and
Wilson.

No Freshmen Games
The movement to grant permission
to the schools to schedule games be
tween freshmen teams In the confer
ence was given a setback, the propo
sition losing 4 to 3. Professor Barber,
Nebraska's faculty representative,
voted in favor of the plan and the
Kansas' Aggies and Drake also were
for It. The other four schools killed
it. There is a chance that this action
will be reversed, however, and per
mission given the freshmen to play

The number of men who can com
pete In Intercollegiate tennis was
limited to four men from each school

Professor Barber said last night that
