Because of tho need of competent
marksmen in this country, Captain
J.. G. Worklzor, comman,dnnt of the
university cadet battalion, is offering
no objection to tho circulation of a
petition among tho cadets seeking to
have the annual camp held outsido of
Lincoln. , Captain Worklzor bolloves
that tho best interests of his depart
ment require thai the camp be held
where a suitable rifle vange can be
secured and for this reason he is
porfectly willing.,, that tho board of
regents should rescind its action In
favor of holding the camp near Lin

ant, fully half of tho men of tho
country knew how to hnndle a gun
and were more or less practised'
marksmen. Now. there are probably
95 por cont of tho men forty years
of ago who know nothing whatever
about a gun. , Thus it is essential
that tho government train its citizens
in marksmnnship, so that in case of
a call for volunteers it need" not have
to teach men how to shoot. t
No Place Near City.
Thoro Is no suitable place for a
rifle range near Lincoln and for this
reason Captain Worklzor would not
bo sorry to seo tho camp moved else
where. The regents recently deter
mined that tho camp bo held near the
city and that the cadetti attend clusses
from 10 to 3 each day,
, Tills order or the regents Is now the
object of a petition which has been
signed' by all tho 'officers 6f the bat
talion and which will Bhortly bo circu
lated aipong tho privates. The peti
tion recites tho advantages of a camp
outsdo of Lincoln and asks the re
gents to' reverse their , action. It will
be presented to that board at the
April meeting.
