COLE TO QUIT.: HERE?
SAID TO BE 8LATED TO TAKE
Y08T'S PLACE AT MICHIGAN.
NO CREDENCE IS GIVEN RUMOR
Believed "King" Will Stay at Nebras
ka Yet Another Year and That
Yost Will Continue With
Wolverines.
ANN ARBOR, Mich., Nov. 20. Coin
cident with tho doparturo of tho Mich
igan football team tonight for Syra
cuse, where thb wolverines closo their
season Saturday, appeared tho rumor
thnt "King" Colo would succeed Yost
as coach of tho Michigan team, tho
change to take effect next fall.
Yost's contract with tho Michigan
athletic association has another year
to run, and for that reason llttlo cred
ence in tho roported chango la enter
tained by tho leading athlotlc spirits
here. Perhaps Yost has mado up IiIb
mind to give up football, and, If ho
has, Cole would bo as apt to bo ten
dered the position as anybody. Colo
was ono of tho stars of YoBt's early
teamB and has been highly succosBful
as a coach slnco leaving Michigan.
There Is no feeling hero that YoBt
has lost his cunning as a dovoloper
of football teams. The "hurry up"
man has ho unlimited confldenco of
"tho entire student body and nono of
tho rooters hopo to sec his successor
named.
A Good Feeling.
Tho feeling hero Is that Yost has
done nil that any coach could with tho
same material. Not moro than ono
or two men on tho present team could
have made the second team during tho
first four years of Yost's work horo.
The material for ends and backs
has been exceedingly woak, and no
body knew that better than Yost. Ho
simply did the best he could undor
unfavorable circumstances.
Another story that Is heard now and
.then Is to tho effect that fraternity
Influences havo hurt Michigan's foot
ball chances. Such statements as
that havo always boon .discounted
among tho students, for Yost haa
never let outsido affairs cut any -fig-
NAVY, GREY OR TAN. ft
uio with the toam. It has always
heen the best man for the placo.
University authorities say they
know nothing of any contomplated
change in the football coach.
Coach Yost and Trainer Fitzpatrlck
took tho seventeen eligible men to
Syracuse, and with theso they must
attempt to wln.( Wasmund Is still
badly battered up, and it Is quite
possible that Cunningham, tho sub
quarter, 'will havo to take his place
boforo the game Is over Saturday.
Schulz.will start the. game at cen.
ter, but it is hardly probable that ho
can laBt throughout tho contest.

no credence by Manager Eager and
the Nebraska players. Manager Eager
said last night that ho had heard noth
ing about Colo's probablo succession
to Yost's place and that ho belfoved
Itbo "King" would remain hero.
Coach Colo left for Minneapolis Jast
night ind he was not Interviewed! ,

ANNUAL GATHERING TO BE 800N
American Historical Association Will
Meet in the East.
The preliminary program of tho
twenty-fourth annual meeting of tho
American Historical association has
been recolvcd at tho University of
Nobraska. Tho meetings will bo hold
in Washington and Richmond from
Doccmbor 28 to 31.
As several associations In subjects
alluded to history, meet at tho samo
time and placo, several university pro
fessorsB havo In tho past attended
theso meetings. Professors Caldwell
and Fling havo usually' attended tho
meotlngs, and it Is possiblo that thoy
will do so this year.
Last year tho annual meeting was
held at Madison, Wis., nnd drow many
professors of tho University of No
braska to that city. It was note
worthy for thev number of eminent
students that wero present, -and it Is
expected that tho coming meeting will
fully line up to tho reputation es
tablished last year.
