Bryn Mawr College awards annually eleven resident fellowships, eight grad uate scholarships and three foreign fellowships. The resident fellowships are of tho value of $525 each, and nro awarded In (jreed, Latin, English, German and Teutonic philology, Romance lan guages, history or economics and poli tics, philosophy, mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology. They are open for competition to graduates of Bryn Mawr College, or of any other college of good standing, and will bo awarded only to canu. dates who have completed at least one year of graduato work after obtaining their first degree. The lellow sllips arc intended as an honor, and are awarded in recognition of previous attainments; and, generally speaking, they will be awarded to candidates that ha.Q studied longest or whose work gives mose promise of future success. The holder of a fellowship Is expect ed to take at least one full graduate course In the department In, which the fellowship is awarded, and to show, by the presentation of a thesis, or In some other manner, that her studies have not been without result. All fellows may study for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy, the fellowship being counted, for this purpose, as equivalent to the degree of Bachelor of Aits. Fel lows that continues their studies at the college after the expiration of the fel lowship, may, by a vote of the trusteea, receive the rank of Fellows by Cour tesy. Fellows are expected to wear aca demic dress, to assist in the conduct of examinations, and to give about an hour a week to the care of special li braries in the halls of residence and In the seminaries, but no such service may be requited of them except by a written request from the president's of fice; they are not permitted, while holding the fellowship, to teach, or 'o undertake any other duties In addition to their college work. Fellows are re quired to reside In the college and are charged the usual fee for tuition, board, and room-rent. Application for resident fellowships or scholarships should be made as early as passible to the president of the college, and must be made not later than the fifteenth of April preceding the year for which the fellowship or scholarship Is desired. Blank-forms of application will be forwarded to the ap plicants. A definite answer wjll Ix given within two weeks from the latent date set tor receiving applications. Any original naners. nrlned or in manu script, which have been prepared by the applicant and sent in support of h ir application, will be returned, when stamps for that purpose are enclosed, or specific directions for return by ex press are grven. Letters or testimonials trom professors and instructors will be filed for reference. Three foreign fellowships of the value of $500 each, applicable to the expense of one year's study and resi dence at some foreign university, Eng lish or .Continental, are awarded an nually. ' The Bryn Mawr European fel lowship is awarded annually to a mem ber of the graduating class of Bryn Mawr College on the ground of excel lence of scholarship. The Mary E.'Gar ret European fellowship is open for competition to all students still In res idence. who have for two years pursued graduate studies at Bryn Mawr Col lege. ' The President's fellowship .s open for competition to students In their first year of graduate work at Bryn Mawr College.
