C. A. Scott. U. S. forester, in charge
of the forest reserves in central and
northern Nebraska, visited the Univer
sity a day or two ago and met a lot
of the forestry boys. He gave an ad
dress to Professor Miller's class In
forestry on Monday. He sayB that the
opportunity for work In forestry are
ory good, and oncouraged the boys to
fit thcmseUeu for government service.
Academy Notes.
Miss Nellie !,. Dean gave her bas
ket ball girls a bachelor spread at her
rooms lately, to the great enjoyment
ill the girls. This was to celebrate the
victory over the Y. W. C. A. team.
The girls expect to play the Midgets
of the University, next week, and as a
consequence in every room, at every
door and on every block a charmer
stands anxious to sell tickets. The
young men are responding well, re
membering how glad they were to re
ceive help from the women last fall.
Tho Academy will make an effort to
bring out a good crowd. Incense will
be burned and sacrifices offered to the
end that the gods may be propitious to
tho Academy women.
Messrs. Myers, Morgan, Miller, Do
Wolfo, Do Young and Shaw aro sup
posedly busily preparing for the coming
debate with the city Y. M. C. A. team.

vinced. Saturday evening the selection

It Is hoped that the interesting Jap.
Kim Akagl, will write his first essay on
the present war. If he does we promise
the readers a quaint sketch from this
bright young man.
Mr. C. V. Smith is suffering from
weakness of tho eyes and is compelled
to take daily treatment for them. Mr.
Smith is such an oxcellont student that
the necessity of neglecting his work
for a few weeks will bo hard for him
to bear.
Bryan Prize Announced.
The notice of the annual offering
of tho Bryan prize has been posted. The
question to be discussed Is: "To what
extent should political parties be sub
Jest to legal control?" In past yeats
competition-or this prize has not been
very brisk. Generally two or three
contestants aro permitted to fight it
out, and In this way It Is hardly possible-
for the best talent In the Uni
versity to be represented.
