of recout date contains the following article con cerning the domestic troubles of John O Licey who it will be remembered left this place two years ago and went to Mexico After being there a short time he was taken sick and returned to his old home in Ohio The rest of the story is told by the Gazette ns follows On Tuesday John O Licey of River Styx placed on file with the county clerk through his attorneys Maper and Licey papers asking for 110000 to pay for his damaged affections The defend ant in the case is George Kerr The plaintiff says that on July 23 1897 he was married to Dora Nisonger In Ne braska and after a wedding trip to Mex co and Central America they Battled down to the peaceful enjoyment of housekeeping at River Styx On Aug 1 1898 the plaintiff enlisted as an immune in the hospital corps of the regular army and remained in the service till March 1 1899 The petition states that during the time of his service Kerr took advantage of the plaintiffs absence and did alien ate her love and affection and that after his return home Kerr and Mrs Licey continued to meet in secluded places and carry on their amours The first of this month Kerr induced the plaintiffs wife to desert him and go to Indiana whither he would follow her and marry her as soon as possible and she relying on his promises tho petitiou states has gone to Indiaua and now resides there During their married life prior to his return from the army Licey and his wife had lived in perfect felicity and she had at all times conducted herself as a loyal wife should Since his return however the domestic heaven was clouded and sho had steadily refused to yield to her husbands earnest solicita tions to forsake her illegal love for Kerr In view of his blighted affections and the loss of her assistance nud companion ship the plaintiff prays for damages for the sum of 10000 and interest thereon from the renditiou of judgement at legal rates He also wants the defendant to bear the costs of through the principal streets and was viewed by a vast crowd of people tho day being most propitious for a large turnout of country folks nnd those from neighboring villages The pageant wns line with its gaily bedecked wagons and cages dens of wild animals elephants camels tableaux cars and horses The wardrobes and trappings displayed were nneand in first class shape After the parade Captain Sauteay the worlds highest diver leaped from a lad der stretching up 100 feet in midair and carried with the show for this especial purpose He landed on a net below A big crowd saw tho great feat and were most favorably impressed with its stu peudousuess In the menagerie was Rajah the king of all animals the biggest elephant ever seen here Others may be called big but this is undoubtedly the king of brutes Many other strange unimals from all parts of the world were dis played and a big herd of Shetland ponies was an attractive feature especially for the children who were equally charmed by the cage of monkeys In the circus proper many new nnd novel acts were performed in which ex perienced actors and intelligent animals took part The features aud novelties were all good One of tho leading aud most wouderful acts was Miss Edna the only lady somersault rider She has the reputation of being the most daring and most dashing lady equestrienne in the world and actually turns a complete somersault on the bare back of a run ning horse The boxing kangaroo Tom had three rounds with his trainer and proved very amusing The show waB attended by big crowds aud the evening performance will
