Geo. Herrick's little 4 or 5 year
old boy was run over by a wagon
about ten days ago upon which he
had been riding , and rolled off
w'th a sack of corn , the hind wheel. .

Harold Kuskie and wife came to
town Sunday from a visit with
Geo. Ladely's and the Kime fam-
ilies. They are stopping at Mr.
Laport's for a few days because of
Roy Kuskie having the measles ,
and is making his home this sum-
mer at the farm with Harold , south
I of Sparks ! , until Roy recovers. He
prefers to keep away.
J. F. Naylor , of Merriman , filed
on the democratic ticket for county
commissioner last \\eek. Mr. Nay-
lor is a man of splendid qualifica-
tions educationally , and is highly
recommended by bis friends who
have induced him to file his name
for the office. We hope to get bet
ter acquainted with him personally ,
but we are assured that Mr. Naylor
will take an active interes in the
work and together with our two re
maining commissioners , Rowley and
I Adamson , will .make a strong and
I well balanced body to do the coun-
ty's business.

went to see about a patent for his
rotary engine taking a short cut
across the prairies. He is expect-
ing a patent several weeks sooner
than the ordinary grind.

Jackson and Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Fischer Jr. and W , T. Fields at-
tended a ball given i at the Hanna
home in Wood Lake last Thurs-
day evening.
It is rumored that Jim Church
who had been running a moving
picture business through the west
sold the outfit which he had pur-
chased upon the payment plan
and pocketed the money. It is
said that his father had guaran :
teed the payment and will be ex-
pected to make good.
The social event of the season
was the party given on the lawn
of Charles Anderson of this city
by Miss Ruth Randolph to the
young people of Valentine. The
decorations were beautiful , the
refreshments delicious and the en-
tertainment without a flaw. Every
guest spoke of Miss : Randolph's
supremacy as a hostess.
P. Sanford was in town the past
week and says he's having a hard
time running after 200 head of cat-
tle and 100 head of horses. Says it's
too much for him , an .old man , and
he . won't live long enough to enjoy
what he lias already made. He
longs for his son George to come
home and take charge of the stock
and we've written to George , at the
old man's request , to come. It isn't
right for him to live alone and ne
says he's been sick all spring. Yes ,
he hates the Yankees yet , and he
joshed and jollied the hoys some but
he's not feeling real well.
