Mrs. May nard Bruns led the devotional. Final plans were made lor the bake sale Nov. 7. The ladies had a clean-up day at the church Friday and there were 11 ladies present- Mrs. John Ltogle Sr., Mrs. John Llngle Jr., Mrs. Jim Me Vay, accomoanied Mrs. Cus NeumeLster to Cook Wednesday, where Mrs. Dale Schmidt was honored at a bridal shower at the Cook Community Hall. Mrs. Helen Noerrlinger at tended baptism rites for her great- granddaughter, Letha Kay, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smith, Cook. A dinner followed. Mr. and Mrs. Frits Doeden are the grandparents Members and families of the Golden Rod Garden Club had a covered dish dinner at the church parlors Friday. Bingo was played. Mrs. Minnie' Neu meister received the door prize. The special events committee Mrs. Fred Meyer, Mrs. Ann Michle, Mrs. Stanley Emshoff, Mrs. Lois Tefft were in charge. Oldest was Mrs. Neumeister, youngest, KelU Emshoff, 16 mcnths. The Holy Trinity Catholic Guild has postponed its soup supper until Nov. 10. Two break-ins occurred at Avoca this week. The Ehlersj Feed Store was entered through the back door, several hundred j dollars cash and Items from the gilt counter were taken. The ele vator was entered but so far no Items were missing. Mrs. Elizabeth Colzyou, of Los Angeles, Calif., has been a house guest of Miss Meta Muel ler. Several from Avoca attemied funeral services at Weeping Water for Mrs. J. M. Ranney, well known here. Harry Jacob sen was a pall bearer. Mrs. Maurice Moderon and children, Oakland, visited her mother, Mrs. Lois Tefft, several days. Mr. and Mrs. Al Lau, Sun City, Arizona have been visltkig her father, George Sudman this week- Nancy Dettmer visited her cousin, Diane Kirchoff, who fell off a wagon and broke her leg. Diane is able to be at her home. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Muir, Stockton, Kansas were recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Carsten. Mrs. Anna Wohlers who is employed in Lincoln, spent the weekend with her son, Wilmer and family. Mr. and Mrs. Laurence Roloff Jr., Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo-, and twins, Michelle Lynn and Mich aela Ann visited with his sister, and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ver non Dettmer over the weekend. Mr. Rolotf will be released Irom the army November 21. Mrs. Henry Maseman and Mrs. Dena Ruge returned home Monday from Bertrand, wnere they attended a Nutzman family reunion. Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Drake at tended tne wedding reception of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Drake at Wilbur Saturday evening. Mrs- Wayne Wohlers was hon ored at a pink and blue shower by Miss Janice Beason of Lin coln recently. Ruth Ann Wessel received a prize on her costume at a barn dance at Nebraska School for Deaf at Omaha recently. She spent the weekend with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Ves sel. Mr. and Mrs. Orville Cornell and daughter, visited with Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Walters, Tuesday. Relatives received word of the death of Mrs. Harold Nutzman, Oakley, California Oct. 15. He Is a nephew of your reporter Mrs. John WoJph, Lincoln, had surgery at Bryan Memorial Hos pital Tuesday. USDA: Small Family Will More Likely Have Balanced Diet LINCOLN A food consump tion survey conducted in 1955 by the U. S. Department of Agri culture among 6.000 urban and rural households in all parts of the country is still turning up interesting facts and figures, ac cording to Kathryn Cooley, Ex tension foods and nutrition spe cialist at the University of Ne j braska. I Here are some of the latest litems of interest: j A two-p e r s o n household isppnds 24 per cent of its food j dollars on meals away from ! home. Small household! spend i more per person than large households do on meat, poultry, fish, egss, fruits and vegetables. I Only 34 per cent of house holds with six or more persons get enough of all eight basic j nutrients recommended by the i National Research Council. I Ir c o n tr a s t, 55 to 60 per iceat of households with two to : four members have balanced diets. Obituary WEEPING WATER (Special I Robert W. Baker Jr., son of Robert and Flossie Baker, was born in Weeping Water, Ne braska, Febr. 21. 1916. He died Oct. 26 near Springfield as a result of an automobile acci dent. Most of his life was spent in the Weeping Water community. He was a graduate of the Weep ing Water High School. He spent about four years in the Navy curing World War II. His last' employment was a a car penter with the Byron Baker Construction firm. He and Edna Mae were mar ried April 24, 1954. He was a member of American Legion Post 237, Weeping Wa ter. He Is survived by his wife, Edna, and seven children, Vicky, Dianne, Pattw Jo, Susy, Kathy, Larry and Jill all of the home; a brother, Warren Baker of Lin coln, and a sister, Vivian Han son of Weeping Water. Mr. and Mr. Bob Johnson and family of Tal mage called at the Henning Johnson home Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Walls Knake and Kevin, Springfield, Mrs. Audrey Dodson and Jackie were Sunday afternoon callers of Mr- and Mrs. Gilbert Kmie. Mr. and Mrs- Harold Pollard and three sons were weekend guests of the Deyman Meyer family of Campbell and the men enjoyed pheasant hunting.
