Thpy were guests of Mrs. Leh man's son, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lehman and little daughters at Sunnyvale,. Calif., they visited a niece at Oakland and cousins at Boulder Creek. They also visited Mr. and Mrs. Ed Rau and family- who are formerly from South Ashland. Mrs. Rau will be remembered as Alta Fern Brlcker. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bricker. Time was spent with Mrs. Ef flc Clark at the home of her son, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Williams. Mrs. Clark and son lived In Memphis a good many years aRO. Her friends will be interest ed to know she is able to get about even tho she Is 98. She took her guests out to see her son's garden and flowers, which Is his hobby. He Is now retired but spends much time in his own and neighbors' gardens. Call Your News And Social Items to 2141 Maple Grove Cluli NEHAWKA (Special) Mrs. Malcolm Pollard gave the lesson on Fabrics for Quality and Beauty at the meeting of the Maple Grove Extension Club Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Arthur Wolph. Mrs. Pol lard gave the construction of fabrics by weaving, knitting, felting and bonding. She used many samples of fab rics to bring out color fastness, color to suit the complexion of the person. She stressed the use ef the proper fabric to suit the occasion for which they are being chosen. Mrs. Arthur Wolph presided. Plans were made to serve a lunch at the church following the funeral service of Albert John son. Miss Evelyn Wolph gave the devotions, Miss Eleanor Eas ter gave a report on safety. Robert S. Speakers for the evening were Mrs. Robert Morton of Nebraska City and two assistants. They are all helping with the Cass County Helping Hands School for Mentally Retarded Children, presently located near Murray. It will soon be re-located near Weeping Water in the Phllpot School. Mrs. Morten reported that 3 per cent of children are men tally retarded, approximately 4,200 to 5,200 children and adults across Nebraska are afflicted. In some cases people refuse to recognize the fact which makes this work particularly difficult. She emphasized that a retard ed child can be helped If It re ceives the proper treatment, preferably, early In life. She also stated that all money donated to this school remains In Cass County and that the school functions on funds do nated by interested people. At the close of her discussion, Modern Mothers Club presented her with $26.65, collected volun tarily from its members, for work at the school. j The business meeting was called to order with 19 members and 4 guests present. , Frances Knosp reported that I the town board has voted to build concrete restroom facili ties in the park. They would ap j predate any help from the club. I It was moved and seconded to provide lavatories. Janice i Backemeyer and Frances Knosp I were appointed the committee to I check into various sinks and prices Jo Vogt reported that Elm wood community collected $87 In the Red Cross drive. Modern Mothers Club contributed $5.75 of this. The next Blood Bank will be Oct. 13. The club was asked to consider being a calling commit tee for it again. Mary Peterson and Joan Hill reported that the skating party will be held May 5th at 2 p.m. Janice Backemeyer told of plans for the annual club tour. Jean Spaukling asked all members to bring $1 to the next meeting for the handicraft. The next meeting will be at Theresa Seiker's. The meeting was adjourned and the hostess served a delicious dessert lunch. Mrs. Duncan Is the former Erna Woitzel, Frieda's twin sister. John Clymer was a recent vis itor with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Clymer as he was being transferred from Denver to Selina, Kan. The date for the Spring Tea was given, April 30. The leaders were Eunice Stock and Audrey Stroe mer. The lesson was about "Fabrics" and was interesting. The hostess served a lunch. The WSCS held their meeting April 10 but served their lunch at noon after which the mite boxes were opened and the meeting began at the regular time, 2 o'clock. About 20 attend ed the luncheon. Mrs. Neilsen reported on the annual conference In Lincoln. She attended all the sessions. Mrs. Horton received the life membership pin which Is pre sented to some one each year. Devotions were given by Mrs. Gonzales and the lesson pre sented by Mrs. Mark Stock, titl ed "A Sign Unto You." Mrs. Lloyd Miller's mqther, Mrs, Nettle Lefler of Grettia is having her 101st birthday Mrs. Louise 8tock gave a talk "titled "Symbols." She mentioned the many kinds of crosses as an example. He is now employed at Lincoln Grain. He has been mar ried for the past 3 years Harold Brown who was Injur ed In a car accident and now has been dismissed from the Cheyenne Hospital and will con tinue on to California where he will be In school. Mrs. Brown was Iva Kay Irons. Mrs. Lloyd Miller entertained on Sunday In honor of her mo ther's 101st birthday which oc cured April 20. Funeral services were held Monday and burial was in Lincoln. They lived In Lincoln for several years. District One NFW Greenwood Workshop GREENWOOD (Special) The District I Nebraska Federa tion of Womens Club will hold a Trl-County Work Shop, April 29 at Greenwood for NFWC members from Cass, Otoe and Lancaster counties from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Methodist Church. Registration will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and during this time the Greenwood Wo mans Club will serve coffee. The program will consist of Federa tion projects, Thoughts on lead ership by Mrs. George Mechling, the NFWC state president, Fed eration Quiz and Buzz session on club problems.
