Caldwell The Good Old Days New years come and old years go. And often the old year looks better in retrospect than it did at the time. That's why, as we g e t older, we tend to look back fondly o r the "good old days," and to find fault with the present age In comparison. Anything "old fashioned" comes to seem sounder, somehow better. Maybe that's true in many things. But there are some old fashioned features that we ought to recall. Take old fash ioned kerosene lamps, for in stance, and stack their flicker ing yellow rays against a modern light bulb. Which one would you rather read by? Old fashioned stoves are nice In museums, but they were a lot slower, dirtier, uglier, less efficient than a modern range. Old fashioned plumbing and heating is fine for roughing It . . , but year round, we'll take the modern, new fangled way. The past has Its place . . . but sometimes change is an im provement.
