Mr. and Mrs. Gene Grimm and family, Mr. and Mrs. Malvin Wilf.s and Terry spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Ell Gauder ault at the cabin. Afternoon cal lers were Mr. and Mr.s. Sam Lung and Sally and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Livers and family. Ashley Boiler and Eddy spent Sunday afternoon with Art Box. Mr. and Mr.s. John B. Peterson called at the Raymond Judds home in Lincoln Sunday after noon. The Petersons spent the evening wit,h Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Andrews in Lincoln. 1st Lt. Charles Hammer of Rewart A F.B. Tennessee ar rived home Saturday forenoon for a ten-day leave with his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Karl Ham mer and other relatives. A sis ter, Mrs. Lloyd Cook, Mr. Cook and sons of Nebraska City joined Lieut. Hammer at Sunday din ner with the Hammer family. Mrs. Art Box went to Winne toon Friday and stayed until Tuesday with relatives. She went to attend the Diamond Jubilee at Verdigre, her home town where she grew up. There were many attractions during the five-day celebration which in cluded parades each day and pagents, depicting the early his tory of the town. Mr. and Mrs. Carl W. W. Sorenson, Faith, Ellen, Sonja and Eric of Dallas, Texas came for a few days visit with Mrs. Sorenson's sister, Mrs. Lyle Bailey and Mr. Bailey, also a brother, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon DR. The Sorenson family went on to South Dakota to visit Mr. Soren son's relatives. Russell Lydlatt and his brother-in-law of Valentine were Fri day forenoon callers at the John B. Peterson home. Mrs. Ralph Raikes spent the evening there. Raymond Judds of Lincoln was an evening caller. Mrs. Melvin Sturm, Mrs. Jack Reece, Jackie and Billy went to Soiux City Tuesday and visited at the Jim Sturm home until Thursday. Jackie stayed until Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Schuelke of Alvo and Mr. and Mrs. Dave Parrott were Sunday afternoon and supper guests of Mrs. Wilma Rogers. They were observing Mrs. Roger's birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Rolland Beetison and Kim and William Beetison had supper Friday with Mr. and Mr.s. Dwight Beetison and Mer lyn. They were celebrating Kim's second birthday. Dennis Pierce and Gerold Ross of Reynolds spent the weekend at the Harold Buell home. The Buell 's were Sunday supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Leaver and daughters near Alvo. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Sowards spent Friday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Ben Rapp in Ralston. Sunday dinner guests at the Sowards home were Mr. and Mrs. Dod Miller and sons of Plattsmouth and Mrs. Mary Buell. Stevie Miller stayed a few days. Mr. and Mrs. Duane Nelson and family of Lincoln were Sun day guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ray mond Nelson. Afternoon callers were Mrs. Harold Richards and Orville Sandy. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Fritzen of Lincoln spent the weekend at the Lyle Bailey home. Ralph Dean joined them for Sunday dinner. Mrs. Roy Keller has had many callers since returning from the hospital. Her visitors last week were Mr. and Mrs. Watson Coleman, Mr. Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Fritzen of Lincoln, Arthur Scheldimeir of West Pbines, Mo., Robert Ole sen of Scott City, Kan., Mr. and Mrs. Porter Sellers, Cindy and Judy Bornman, Mrs. Mae Boo'he and Howard Gartner of Omaha, Mrs. Donald Miller of Plattsmouth, Mrs. Niles Cole man of Greenwood, the Rev. Faust, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Holmes, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Sowards, Mr. and Mrs. Gill Kel ler, Mr. and Mrs. George Born man, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Arm strong, Mrs. Lyle Bailey, Mrs. W. A. Laughlin, Mrs. Oscar Laughlin, Mrs. Joe Fries, Mrs. Bob Thomas, Clark Bushnell and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Laugh lin and family. Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Armstrong, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Roy Everman of Wann attended the twenty-first annual picnic of their former neighbors of the Nebraska Ordnance Plant, Sun day afternoon. The picnic was held at Wild Court Park south of Fremont. NEWS FROM AVOCA Keep In Touch Mr. and Mrs. Dick Beverage and little daughter Stephanie of Berkeley, Calif., are visiting here at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bever age, and with other relatives and friends. Arriving Thursday, were Mr, and Mrs. Charles (Lindy) Wol ever, Laure, Marti and Terri of Montrose, Colo., who will be guests at the homes of Mrs. Sophia Wolever and Joe Liber-shal. Ed Austin underwent major surgery last Monday at the Vet erans Hospital in Omaha, where he has been a patient for over a month. He is on the 7th floor, east end. Mrs. J. H. Graves returned Thursday from a trip with her brother, Guy Burton of Palmyra. They visited at Harvard with another brother, Vance, and also with a sister, Mrs. Alice Joiner at Nebraska City. Mrt. Henry Maseman Floyd Wood re-entered St. Jo seph Hospital Sunday night. He is in Room 358. Mrs. Herman Meisinger Is re cuperatiing in Methodist Hos pital following surgery. She is getting along fine. Ray Norris had his little fing er on his left hand badly cut In a lawn mower Saturday. Mb was first taken to a Dr. and later to the hospital in Nebraska City where it was amputated to the 2nd joint. He was able to leave the hospital and return home the same day. Mrs. Ruth Lundberg, Tallahas se, Fla., visited friends here Sun day and Monday. She Ls a house guest of her sister, Mrs. Roy Splitt and brother-in-law, Mr. Splitt. The James Wolph family have returned to their home in Kent ucky after visiting his mother here and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Russel Joyce at Syracuse. Mr. and Mrs. Logan Deal, Sac remento, Calif., spent several days here as guest of her broth er Eldon Ahrens and family. On Sunday they attended a family reunion picnic at Waubonsie Park. There were 75 present. The youngest Allen Hutchinson Coin, Iowa the oldest Mrs. John Ahrens. Mr. and Mrs. Gus Wohlers and children are vacationing in Yel low Stone Park this week. John Mohr, Beatrice, Judy and Gregg Mohr, Lincoln, Mrs. Harold Eilers, Lincoln called at the John Mohr home Monday. Mrs. Ella Wulf entertained at dinner at Steinhart lodge Sun day. Her guests were Mrs. Helen Noerrlinger, Mrs. Emma Rawalt, Mrs. Ann Mickle. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Patton and children, Milford visited at the home of Mrs. Elsie Seezel and Crystal Sunday. Richard Moderon, Oakland, spent several days with his grandmother, Mrs. Lois Tefft this week. Mr. and Mrs. Logan Deal, sacramento, California, Mrs. John Ahrens, Davenport, Nebr. were overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Ahrens and family. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Marquardt went to Springfield, Mo. to at tend the wedding of her nephew Tom White July 28. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Alfrey, Weeping Water were Friday afternoon guests of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Geber and children. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Patton and children, Milford, were Sunday callers of Mrs. Seegel and Crystal. Phillip Tritsch, Otoe called on friends here this week. He is stationed at Great Lakes Train ing Station, Illinois and ls home on 15 day leave with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Louis Tritsch. He reports back to Great Lakes this week. Mrs. Joe Olewlne, Omaha suf fered a heart attack this week. Her mother Mrs. Gollner went to be with her family. Mrs. Ellis Lacy, Nehawka had a toe nail removed at St. Eliza beth Hospital, Lincoln last week Mrs. Lawrence Wulf, Otoe en tered Syracuse Hospital Monday. She has Hepatitis and is in is olation there. Several farmers and sons from here attended Tractor Day at Lincoln Thursday. Word was received here Thursday of the death of Claude Durham Wednesday night at the Hilltop rest home, Weeping Water where he had made his home for a number of years. Mrs. Ernest Jensen, Dewitt, Iowa was a surgery patient last Monday. John Berner Sr., Otoe, is just out of Tecumseh Hospital fol lowing surgery on his foot. Mrs. Sophie Roettger, Otoe and Mr. and Mrs. Henry czschin went to Colby, Kansas to see Mrs. Henry Vette who is ser iously ill. Mrs. Jerry Pointer finished her course this week at Peru. Mr. and Mrs. John Emshoff left Thursday to visit their son Ralph and family In Denver, Colo. Mr. and Mrs. John Stubben dick left Saturday for Marcellus and Scaneataleous, New York to visit their two daughters and family. Pictures of the William (War ren) Fager and their family were in the daily paper. He is well known here having lived west of Avoca and attended High School here. They have been living in Addis Abba, Ethio pia, for three years and are here visiting her parents, Dr. and Mrs. John Ekwall, Lincoln also their daughter Becky who has been attending the Lincoln School of Commerce. Mr. Fager is with the United States Bureau of Recelamation service. They have three other older daugh ters Barbara. Jane and Nancy. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Ehlers and Vandals Fined $25 Each, Must Also Work a Day Six teen-aged youths entered pleas of "guilty" before the County Judge Thursday to a charge of "malicious destruction of property," the charge grow ing out of incidents which oc curred the night of July 20. Each boy was fined $25 and ordered to put in one day's work "to beautify the school area'' of the two schools which had suf fered damage. The Judge ordered Sheriff Tom Solomon to carry out the order of the Court in seeing the boys put in a day's work. The Judge also ordered the boys to make restitution for window breakage at Cottonwood School. Weeping Water Mrs. John Woodward, Emily and John and Mrs. Ben Olive were luncheon guests of Mrs. T. H. Hanlan. Mr. and Mrs. James Dawson of Petersburg, Illinois were gues'.s of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Dawson and Mr. and Mrs. Rus sell Root and Johnny. Mr. and Mrs. Art Fitzpatrick have returned home after a three month's trip visiting rela tives in California and Oregon. E. E. Lorensen has returned home from a trip to Denmark with his son Lyman. Mrs. Robert Bruce, Ann Bruce of Ithaca, New York and Mrs. John Reeke were Thursday morning coffee guests of Mrs. Walter Anderson. Mrs. Edward Van Horn and John were in Omaha Tuesday on business. Enroute home they vis ited with Mr. and Mrs. Carl Nickels of Plattsmouth. Mr. and Mrs. Durwood Cam- Jeffry, Bertrand were callers at the Henry Maseman and Dena Ruge homes Friday. Mrs. Myrtle Wolph will en tertain the Cemetery Auxiliary Friday, August 3. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kover and sons Sam Garner and Roger re turned from a visit with Sam's mother at Benkelman Friday. Roger stayed over with his grandmother. eron left Monday for their home in Lynnwood. California after a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Knud Jensen. Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Fisher of Falls City were also guests at the Jensen home to visit with their house guests. Mickey Jo McCann of St. Paul ls visiting for some time with her great aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mis. Charles Freeman. Mr. and Mr.s. Neal Snell and family and Mrs. Blanche Snell of Plattsmouth were evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Groesser and John Dean. They were on their way home from a trip to the World's Fair. The Rev. and Mrs. John Bend er and Connie arrived for a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Patterson. They also are visiting with their houseguests, Mr. and Mr.s. Eldon Patterson and family. Rev. Bender report ed that he had served the Con gregational Church in Newcastle for five years and likes his work there very much. The Bender family are also visiting with 1 Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Bender and I James and other relatives and friends. Ruth Attebery of Van Orin, 111 . arrived Wednesday for a '"flsit with her sister and family, Mr. and Mr.s. Arnold Upton and family. Friday night an Atte- bery family reunion was held at the Upton home with all of the family present but Shirley Upton .who is attending the Music camp at Lawrence, Kan sas and Carolyn Muhr of Krebs, Oklahoma. Those who attended were Mr.s. Tom Attebery, Mr. ; and Mrs. Rex Stanley and fam I ily of Adams, Mr. and Mis Gar- nold Muhr and family of Krebs, Oklahoma, Mr. and Mis.
