Council Decides To Open Alley An east-west alley between 7th and 8th north from Avenue B should be opened, the City Council decided Friday night. And, the Council decided to conditionally accept a survey by Fulton Harris, made for the city this fall, in determining the al ley boundary. A power pole will have to be moved, according to the survey. The condition attached to ac ceptance of the survey is that the surveyor's bond insures the city against liability for any damage arising out of opening i of the alley. Check Passing Lawrence Chappell of Platts mouth was charged in County Court today on three charges of s-uing ro-account checks. Sheriff Tom Solomon took Chappsll into custody Friday night. The sheriff said this ended a check writing spree by Chappell. Some twenty-five checks were passed by Chappell in Plattsmouth, Louisville, Cedar Creek, Murray, Union and Oma ha, according to the sheriff. Merchants evidently took the checks because Chappell was known to them. Those holding checks on Chappell, who haven't already turned them in, should do so, the Sheriff said. THE IS HERE! PAPILLION, NEBRASKA Depth of Sewer Discussed Here Depth ofaportlon of the sanitary sewer In Ideal Heights Addition in South Plattsmouth was discussed Friday night by the City Council. Andrew Epperson, developer of the subdivision, was present to complain that he could not hook onto the sewer with a basement drain for one of his new houses. A representative of HennLig sen, Durham and Richardson, Omaha, which engineered the sewer, said he felt it is a case of the basernent being too low and not of the sewer being too high. Epperson m al n t a 1 n e d the sewer is not as deep as it was supposed to be. The Council asked the en gineering firm to shoot some elevations of the sewer to deter mine the facts. Warning Given About Crimes Merchants should bs on the alert against possible robbery during the coming holidays, according to Sheriff Tom Solo mon. Solomon said that a wave of arrrd robberies and costly bieak -lnsy have- occurred in adjoining counties and "the fact we have been spared can change at any time." Floating of worthless checks likewise will be on the increase during the busy period, he said. Strangers should be re quired to show Identification and the jotting down of the drivers license or license plate number on the check will assist officers and will cut down on such viola tions, the Sheriff said.
