Gallinule and sora rail sea sons close Saturday, Nov. 25. Goose hunting continues through Nov. 29 and duck season through Dec. 6. "Vigilant 1 a w enforcement, plus awareness and indoctrina tion, have helped cut boating mishaps," accordinj; to Dudley Osborn, chief of boating for the Gam Commission. "Still though, too many boat owners are learning seamanship by the trial and error method." Osborn said that greenhorn steering, motors too big for craft and failure to have life jackets in the vessel cause the mishaps. Signals and boating laws, gen erally unknown or ignored by the novice, are as old as sailing. Classes of Instruction are free to the boater through the Coast Guard, Power Squadron, Red Cross, and the Game Commis sion. "Every new boater needs to enroll," Osborn advised. Boat Accidents Down; Record Still Unenviable "LINCOLN Although the state's pleasure boaters enjoy ed another, safer sailing in 1961, Nebraskans still tallied an un enviable record of boating fa talities and injuries.
