I r jue-x - NEWS FROM AVOCA Mrs. Henry Richard Hoback got minor in juries when his car was in col iision with a Rock Island train near Greenwood Tuesday. There was a truck ahead of him and he didn't see the train. His car was a complete werck and he was hospitalized at Byran Mom orial Hospital Lincoln but later released. Friends went to the Eld on Ahrens home Thursday evening for a house warming. Those present were Mrs. Ella Wulf, Mr. and Mrs. Norton Johnson, Mr .and Mrs. Jerry Pointer and Kevin, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Maseman. Mrs. James Mead had minor surgery at Syracuse hospital Tuesday and is at her home. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Zimmerer sold their home this week to Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Ebert. Mrs. Henry Maseman returned home Tuesday after spending the weekend in Lincoln with the Maseman girls while her son John was in Chicago on business. Evening callers at the Henry Dankleff home were Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Livers, Debra and David, South Bend. Mrs. Harry Lange received word of the death of her moth er, Mrs. Adolph Wolfe of Otoe. Mrs. Wolfe lived alone in a house on the same farm as her son Willard. When they found her she had suffered a stroke. She was taken to the hospital but never regained conciousness. Funeral services were held Sat urday at Otoe. Schools closing last week were Pine, Heine and 105. Mr. and Mrs. Merle Meyer, Nehawka, annuonce the birth of a son at St. Mary's Hospital May 10. Grandmother is Mrs. George Meyer, Nebraska City. Mr. and Mrs. David Stranke, Cape Canaveral, Florida an nounce the birth of a son Steven Paul May 8 Grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. BenLenpka, Tecumseh, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Straub, Avo ca. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Smith and Roger were in Omaha Sunday for mothers day and also for Linda Smith's 5th birthday at the Standley Smiths home. Thirty-five ladies of First Lu theran Church went to Burr Tuesday evening as guests of the Burr ladies there. Mr. and Mrs. Marion Sutton attended the wedding of Miss Norma Jeau Heard and Thomas Boardman at Louisville Satur day evening. Sam Garner was home on weekend leavve from Veterans Hospital, Lincoln. Tom and Clyde Fletcher plan ned and carried out a surprise on their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Fletcher for their 25th wedding anniversary Tuesday. Two tow trucks were used to extricate the car. fTHJ Obituary August Schwegman EAGLE (Special) August Herman Heinrich Schwegman was born March 10, 1887, in Lan caster County, "son of Diedrich Schwegman and his wife Mar garet Wetenkamp. He was baptized May 1, 1887. He attended schools near his home. March 18, 1900, he was con firmed and received as a com municant member at Trinity Lutheran Church, near Walton. He remained an active and faith ful member of that congregation until 1946 when he transferred to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Eagle. For many years he was the church custodian, and served ! alsc on boards and. committees, j June 17, 1931, he was married; to Lmma Rockenbach, who sur- vives him. There are no chil-j dren. Mr. Schwegman lived south-! west of Eagle on a farm until; 1921 when he moved to Eagle with his mother and sister. Mr. Schwegman managed a chicken hatchery for a few years prior to his retirement. i Mr. Schwegman had been suf fering from heart trouble for some time. It became worse dur-! ir.g April of this year, and be-! came severe April 30. He was taken to Bryan Memorial Hospi tal, Lincoln, where he died May 7. Survivors Include the widow, ivirs. jimma senwegman; a brother, Fred Schwegman of Eagle; four nieces and a neph-j ew. ! Services were at Immanuel, ' Eagle, May 10 with burial in the ; Eagle Cemetery. Rothe drove to Union Saturday evening for Mrs. Rothe who had been visiting her mother, Mrs. Todd, for a few days and she attended thj Mother-Daughter Banquet last Friday night. Little Karen Hen drlx came with Mr. Rothe to get her grandmother. Mrs. Robeit Morton, teacher in the School for Retarded Chil dren at Nebraska City, has fin ithed her years teaching and is happy to be at home with her family. Mr. C. E. Morris was able to be released fiom St. Mary's Hos pital last weekend and is re covering nicely from surgery at his home. Mrs. L. G. Todd was a dinner guest at the home of Mr and Mrs. Melvin Todd Sr. on Moth er's Day. Miss Nancy Todd of Lincoln and Mr. and Mrs. Mel vin Todd Jr. and three daugh ters, also were dinner guests. Mr. and Mrs. John McQuinn and Johnny of Bellevue and Mrs. Lewis Mougey enjoyed a Mother's Day dinner at Stein hart Park Lodge last Sunday. Later in the afternoon the Mc Quinns visited Mrs. Rich and daughters and ate the evening meal with them. The meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Tcny Wlrth near Avoca. Mrs. F. O. Sand was elected vice president; Mrs. Allen Burr, treasurer; and Mrs. Otto Straub was re-elected secretary. Father E. C. McFadden ex plained the steps taken to can onize a saint. Mrs. Oscar Zim merer save a report of the state Deanery convention held re cently in Lincoln. Mmes. Zim merer, Tony Wlrth, Emil Lutz, Leo Schram, Carl Zaiser, Otto Straub attended the Lincoln meeting. The president, Mrs. Ralph Meyer, reda the letter from the national president, Mrs. Eliza beth Zepf. Her message was "May, the month of Mary." Father McFadden announced the dates of the summer cate chism school, which will be held at Syracuse for both parishes, from May 29 through June ft. The Sisters from Nebraska City will teach the children. The May crowning will be May 31 at Syra cuse. Plans were completed for the annual dinner at the hall in Avoca at 12 noon May 28. The June 6 meeting will be at the Leslie Behrns home. Fellowship of the Congregational Church met with Mrs. J. W. Brendle and Mrs. Secgel Thurs day. Mrs. Spencer Leger gave the devotional, "Look up and Live." Also this was her farewell as she will no lcr.er be a member. Mrs. Pearl Vette also said farewell as she is leaving for Seattle, Wash., to live near her son. Plans were made to serve the alumni banquet and committees appointed.
