Mr. and Mrs. Joe Mardes and Mrs. John Bergman, Weeping Water, called at the Richard Field home Tuesday. Mrs. Elmer Sprlcek drove to Omaha Sunday evening, taking Ruth Ann back after she soent the weekend at home. Mrs. Sprl cek called at the Wilbur Sutton home. The Glendale picnic was held Sunday at the school grounds and very well attended. Some of the visitors from away were Mr. and Mrs. Zimmerman of Lincoln, and Mrs. Welde, Mrs. Elmer Brandt, both of LInclon. Greenwood Societies GREENWOOD (Special) The Dorcas Society met Friday at the Christian Church with- Mrs. Aaron Wright as hostess. Mrs. Wright also gave the devotions. The Greenwood Woman's Club met Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Ed Stradley for a covered dish luncheon. Sixteen members and 2 visitors were present. Mrs. Walter Woitzel had charge of the lesson on "Green Thumb.'' There was an exchange of plants. The St. Joseph Altar Society met Wednesday at the home of Mrs. M. R. Hansen with 6 mem bers present. School Honors Moms, Grandmas 'AVOCA (Special) Mrs. Jerry 'Pointer and school children gave a tea at School District No. 5 Otoe County Tuesday for their mothers and grandmothers. In the program were Susy Stubbendick, Kevin Heine, Bar bara Stubbendick, Sandy Dett mer, Steve Heine, Gene Stub bendick. Marie Thormahlen. Betty Thormahlen, Leon and Mike Bose, Debra Heine. Mothers received a pink carna tion corsage and grandmothers, potted plants of pansies. Children gave their mothers pink tulle aprons. Susv Stubben dick served tea cakes, nuts, mints and punch. Holy Trinity Guild Meets at Avoca AVOCA (Special) Holy Trin ity Guild met Tuesday with Mrs. Anthony Wirth. Rev. McFadden was present. The following were elected: Mrs. Merle Meyer, president; Mrs. F. O. Sand, vice president; Mrs. Allen Burr, treasurer; Mrs. Otto Straube, secretary. Final plans were made for the ham-chicken dinner May 28. Summer school starts May 29 at Syracuse with St. Mary's Sis ters of Nebraska City in charge. Classes are from 8:30 to 3:30 for two weeks. Pat Koahler is being well-wished by her pupils who Friday presented her a bigr, shiny electric toaster as a gift in a surprise bridal shower arranged by the children and the room mothers. The Journal was on hand Friday to take a picture but the photo Eagle Methodist Church Notes EAGLE (Special) Sunday, two from the membership class, Louis Bowne and Mark Embree, became members of the church. Two mothers were presented a bouquet honoring the eldest present, (Mrs. Mary Lanning) and the youngest, (Mrs. Dick Os trander). Mr. and Mrs. Paul Embree were greeters for the service. Fred Embree sang a solo with Mrs. John Fisher, at the organ. The Baccalauereate service was held at the School Auditor ium, Sunday evening and the Senior M.Y.F. meeting was not held. The All Church Conference will be held Wednesday evening, May 24, at 8 p.m. . Saturday at 6:30 p.m., the In termediate M.Y.F. will have a hayrack ride. The W.S.C.S. members were pleased with their Food and Bake Sale Proceeds Saturday. Elmwood Community Bible School Set May 22-J une 2 ELMWOOD (Special) The Elmwood Community Bible School will open next Monday, May 22, and continue until June 2. Classes will be held daily from G to 11:30 a.m. except on Me morial day. The kindergarten class con sisting of children who were in kindergarten class last year and willl be this fall will meet in the Methodist church. Primaries, those who were in grades 1, 2, and 3 will meet in the EUB church. Juniors, those who were in grades 4 and 5 will meet in the Christian church. Jr. Hi. age, those in grades 6 and 7 during this past school year will meet in the Methodist church. Mrs. Dale Hall will be in charge of the kindergarten de partment, Mrs. LaDean Lannin of the Primaries, Mrs. Harold Wilken of the Juniors, and Mrs. Robert J. Clark of the Junior Hi. The Rev. Frank Schroeder is dean of the school, and Rev. F. C. Ebinger will be in charge of visual aids. They came from a Lutheran church in Eagle which closed its doors recently so will be where their son Dale and family belong. Methodist The choir was composed of all male voices The Sr. choir, the intermediate choir and the Jr. choir. They sang "Bless All Mothers." Dr. Harold Sandall gave the sermon A basket dinner was enjoyed by a good crowd at noon followed by quarterly conference in the aft ernoon. All were anxious to make the acquaintance of the tiny new son of the parsonage who attended church. Christian The special by the Jr. choir was 2 songs. Mothers honored were the youngest mother, Judy Coatman Jones Oldest mother, Mrs. Ola Hays; Mother having largest family was Mrs. George Buell. They were given corsages and all other mothers present were given a carnation. Elmwood Scouts Attend Daisy Sing ELMWOOD (Special) Elm wood Girl Scouts and Brownie Troops, 137, 228, 227, and 345 journeyed to Lincoln for the Girl Scout Daisy Sing. The Daisy Sing is an annual affair honoring Juliette Gordon Low, the founder of Girl Scouts. When they arrived at Antelope Park, they were met by their hostess group from Bethany and Havelock, ate lunch and played games. Following this, they join ed in the sing with nearly 500 other Girl Scouts and Brownies. After many rounds and unison numbers, they closed with the Indian Rain Song, and true to tradition about half an hour later it rained. The hostess troop had arrang ed for the girls to go to the State Capitol for a guided tour and lecture. The Girl Scouts and Brown ies "would like to thank the mo thers who provided transporta tion and treats for this special outing." Greenwood Mrs. Frank Hurlbut Mr. and Mrs. Turley Wall at tended the funeral of Mrs. Mary Turner at Elmwood Wednesday. Emil Meisinger visited wiih Mr. and Mrs. Robert Tweton and family of Omaha last Monday and visited with Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Burbee rnd family of Bellevue Tuesdpy and returned home Wednesday. Cook, Electronics Technician 3rd Class, U. S. Navy, son of Mr. r.nd Mrs. Dwight Cook of Ne hawka, was recently engaged in the SEATO Operation "Pony Ex press" off the coast of Borneo. The operation consisted of sim ulated amphibious and helicon- ter assaults by the joined forces of the SEATO members to pro mote better and more efficient joint-operation capabilities of the SEATO forces. Mrs. Turley Wall was Mr. Wall's brother Voyal Wall of Lorimor, Iowa. Emil Meisinger accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Joe Leesley and family and spent Sunday at the George Leaver home at Water loo.
