Connell, Killeen, Texas, Commander-in-Chief of the Vet erans of Foreign Wars of the U. S., today announeed that Jack Barnard, of Plattsmouth, has been appointed National Aide-de-Camp of the V. W. In making his announcement of the appointment Commander-in-Chief Connell said: '"It is a real pleasure for me to be able to appoint Mr. Barnard as a National Aide-de-Camp In our organization. In this capacity he will serve as a personal repre sentative of mine and I know by his past achievements that he will continue to stand up for progress and achievement not only in the V.F.W. but also In his community, state and nation. Because of his past efforts the Veterans of Foreign Wars is today a better organization." Rural Carrier Honored For Service AVOCA (Special) A 40 year recognition surprise basket din ner was held at the town hall Sunday honoring ' Marion Pitt man on his retirement and years of service as rural mail carrier of route II, 1920 to 1960. Rev. J. E. Aeschbacker pas tor of the congregation Church said grace. He and his wife, his daughter, Jean, husband, LeRoy Nielsen, two children, Gretna; LeRoy's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Nielsen, Springneld; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Richer, Nebraska City; Mrs. Louise Zaiser locai post master, Mrs. Pauline Ludwig assistant among others were seated at the taole. The center peice was a cake shaped like a mail box and favors were minature cake mail boxes. Herman Kamrriann introduc ed John Marquardt long time assistant carrier as master of ceremonies. Ricky Ruhge gave the wel come. Ihey traced the route where the program centered around. Ft. George was the first stop tor a coliee break. Cottage Hill school entertained with three different groups of square dan ces. A drivers lesson, Mrs. Glen Stubbendick imam the teacher, Mrs. Raymond Rippe the pupil. A poem was read from a navy buddy in Missouri. , A humorous song "My Sister" by Rick Hunterman and Harry Houschild was given. The Heine school skit "Learning to Shave." Music from the Lutheran Church was Two Sherer sons duet accompanied by the 3rd son; Betty Stubbendick accor dian solos. Mrs. Maynard Bruns spoke for the Mickie family which a fourth generation he served. The Herman school also presented several numbers. The oldest patrons are Mr. and Mrs. Fred Berner. Next a newly wed couple Mr. and Mrs. Galord Bose. Pine school three numbers and a poj ka dance. Fred Marquardt, ma yor spoke in behali of the town. Herman Kammann presented a gold watch from tile patrons. Wayne Nickelson, Wabash mail carrier presented the 40 year pin for service. Mr. Zaiser thanks for his long service and read a letter from Postmaster General Arthur Summerfield. A map of his route was present ed him which showed every pa trons house, school, church, va cant house. The 300 who attended all sang "America" in unison. Other former, mail patrons were Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Kehl buck, Syracuse, Mrs. M e t a Brockhoff( Mrs. Rebbecca Lud wig, Otoe, Mrs. Henry Ludwig, Mrs. Soptie Emshott, Walter Harmer, Avoca. Sheriff Probing Local House Party Brawl A early Saturday morning brawl in the north part of Plattsmouth is being investi gated by the sheriff's office. The brawl, which was the climax to a house party, sent one youth to a Nebraska City hospital with a serious arm in jury and a broken tooth. The party reportedly started at 12:30 Friday night and ended when the fight took place around 8 a.m. Saturday. Sheriff Solomon stated that evidence gathered will be turn ed over to the county attorney for his disposition. ' Louisville Beer Party Under Observation A beer party, involving many minors, is still under investi gation by the sheriff's office. The party took place in the south part of Louisville Satur day night and was spotted by Sheriff Solomon while, returning from Greenwood. Four car loads of youths took part and they were from Omaha, Louisville Weeping Water. A quantity of opened and unopened beer cans were picked up in the area. Rturning to Plattsmouth the sheriff took into temporary cus tody an eighteen year old girl found walking down Main Street in an intoxicated condi tion. Her case has been turned over to the county attorney ac cording to Sheriff Solomon. The surprised driver discover ed the steering wheel had come of in his hands. The truck lurched over some railroad tracks and hit a station wagon. No one was hurt.
