Promotion, Rally Day Held Sunday At Union Church UNION (Special) Last Sun day was Rally Day and Promo tion Day at the Methodist Chur ch. Eighty Invitation cards had been sent out and a good at tendance of parents and friends was appreciated. A short program was given by the children at the close of the Sunday School period as follows: a groun of songs by the children of the primary department; a finger exercise by the Kinder garten class; Vocal Solo, Cathy Stine, "Ood Is Near", Recitation, Steve Exllne; dialogue, " The Sweepers", by Betty May East er, Carolyn. Steve, Peggy Host etter and Judy Johnson. Promotion Certificates were awarded as follows: Kindergarten Leslie Hostet ter, Danny Boardman, Christy Nlncehlser, Linda Foster and Cathy Hathaway. LITTLE BO PKEP The float of the Platts mouth Eagles and Auxiliary showed Little Bo Peep (Vicky Lynn Cole) and her sheep. The float appeared in Saturday night's parade. Ackleys of Union Hosts to Reunion UNION (Special) Mr. and Mrs. Verl Ackley had a family re-unlon at their home with an aunt and uncle from Ceresco, Ed and Hattie Soder and a cou sin from Portland, Ore., Wayne Hansen. Tuesday dinner and lunch guests were, Mir. and Mrs. El mer Hansen of Omaha, Miss Hattie Soder of Ceresco and Wayne Hansen. Friday the Ackleys and their guests, went to Omaha where they were all dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hansen. Later In the day they took Way ne Hansen to the airport to board a plane for home. Pauline Soder of Lincoln who had been visiting in Omaha re turned with the Ackleys to Un ion Friday evening and return ed to her home Saturday. Sunday dinner and lunch guests of the Ackleys were Mrs. Phillip Johnson and family, all of Mead.' Some 5,000 workmen tolled for six years to build the Great Mosque in Delhi, India. The Mos que preserves relics of the Pro phet Mohammed, including a hair from his beard, "his sandal, and the imprint of his foot in stone. Many Moslems believe that a prayer in the Great Mos que is worth 25 uttered at home or in a lesser mosque. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Stander Grimm spent Sunday afternoon visited with Mrs. Julia Bartalat the Malvin Wiles home. Mr. In Elmwood, Tuesday afternoon.! and Mrs. Gene Grimm and Genie spent the evening there. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Cook and sons of Nebraska City spent Sunday at the Karl Hammers home. Mr. and Mrs. Hammer spent the evening with Mr. and Mrs. Richard Todd. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Mansfield and little son spent Sunday at the Lyndall Watson home. Mr. and Mrs. Mansfield left Monday for their home near Farmington, Mo. They spent the night with a brother, Mr. and Mrs. George Mansfield in Holton, Kansas. Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Andrews spent Thursday evening with Mr. and Mrs. John B. Peterson They were Lincoln visitors Thursday and had supper at the Norman Leybold home. Mr. and Mrs. George Born man and Mr. and Mrs. Darold Miller and family joined the Bennett Bornman family and the George Bornman Jr. fam ily of Des Moines in Omaha Fri day evening and all attended the Ak-Sar-Ben rodeo. The George Bornman Jr. family spent the weekend with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Bornman. Mr. and Mrs. George Gage of Dunning were Saturday over night and Sunday guests of Mrs. Gage's parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Rau. Mr. and Mrs. Leland Krecklow and family of Lincoln spent Sunday at the Rau home. Mr. and Mrs. Everett Bower and family attended the Ak-Sar-Ben rodeo Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Armstrong spent Tuesday afternoon and Friday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Roy Everman in Wann. Mrs. Everman has not been very well lately. Mr. and Mrs. Charles War ren of Elkhorn and Mr. and Mrs. Lyndall Watson and sons were Sunday evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Mansfield. Mrs. Darold Miller, Ellen and David of Ceresco visited with Mrs. Roy Keller Thursday after noon. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Laugh lin were Sunday afternoon visit ors in the Keller home. Bronn returned home from the hospital last Wednes day where he had been several days for treatments. In the absence of Rev. Han sen Sunday, Rev. John Oehlerk ing preached the sermon and i Mrs. Hansen conducted the oth er ' details. The Junior choir sang several numbers, this be ing their first since summer ' vnration. Wm. Huffman spent several days with Lillian Huffman at her home in Shenandoah, Iowa. Miss Huffman's other brother, John Huffman of Plainview, also : visited her. She had been in the hospital a long while. The Edmond Steiner family drove to Table Rock Sunday and ! attended Sunday School and returned to her home Monday by bus. Guests Sunday at the Lloyd Miller home were Mr. and Mrs. Millard Lefler and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wilson all of Lincoln and Mrs. Wm. Lefler and Harry of Gretna. Fairview Woman's Club met with Mrs. Wm. Mendenhall on Sept. 15. Present were 9 members and 1 visitor. The lesson was on "Home Protection" given by Mrs. Lloyd Miller and Mrs. Mel Miller. The next meeting will be with Mrs. Howard Miller and leaders are Mrs. Dale Miller and Mrs. Elden Mendenhall. Lunch was served. Emmett Cook is in the Hos pital in Lincoln having had a cataract removed from one eye Sept. 20. His sister, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Nielsen of Omaha visited him Sunday and his daughter and family, the Robert Tookers visited him Saturday. Mrs. Donald Hollenbeck enter ed the hospital last Wednesday for observation. She had not been feeling so well lately. The Richard Pratt family spent Sunday with the Capt. T. L. Eyres family at the Air Base in Lincoln. The two daughters of Mrs. Wm. Cook, Mrs. Gordon Dixson and Mrs. Clarice Pickwell both of California, have been here about two weeks visiting their mother Mrs. Wm. Cook and bro thers, the Orest Cooks and Le Roy Cooks of Tekamah. They left for their homes Monday morning. LeRoy Cooks visited here last Saturday. Each year this community holds a picnic supper in honor of our teachers. This year it was held in the Community Build- red there andt is in charge of Window display and advertising at the J. C. Penney store there. Mrs. Duane Krecklow is re maining in Lincoln for a short time. Sunday dinner guests at the C. J. Flieschman home were Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Hurst of Bed ford, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Orlin Burrell, Carol Jean and Gay Ion, Miss Kathy Door and Bern ard Arthur of Lincoln. Alma Clements had dinner Sunday with Mable Wood and Myrtle Wood came and took the two of them riding to enjoy the day and then had refreshments with Myrtle. Weekend guests at the Her- old Krecklow home the previous weekend were Mr. and Mrs. Louis Krecklow, of Delafield, Wise, and Mr. and Mrs. Duane Krecklow. Leonard Parish suttered a heart attack Sunday night and was taken to the Ebeler Nurs ing home where is resting very well at this writing. Dean Tracy of Minneapolis visited with Gary Clements over the weekend and they attended the Minnesota-Nebraska game Saturday in Lincoln. Mr. Tracy is a junior at the University of Minnesota and councilor' at the summer YMCA camp in north ern Minn., where Gary has spent time during several camping periods. Mr. and Mrs. Herold Krecklow David and Mrs. Duane Krecklow spent the weekend at the Duane Krecklow home in Manhattan, Kan. Duane has been tiansfer- Fairland Giants Have Family Picnic SOUTH ASHLAND (Special) The Fairland Giants Baby Beef 4-H Club members - and their families had picnic dinner at Peter Pan park in Lincoln Sun day. This was" the last meeting of the year and was well attended. Games were played in the afternoon and ice cream and cake was served before the group adjourned.
