Mrs. S. H. Harmon led in group singing. There were sev enteen members present and two guests, Margaret Ranney and Mrs. Dave Durst of Tecum seh. Mrs. E. E. Lorensen read sev eral articles troni newspapers. Mrs. Herbert Petersen, presi dent, read a humorous article tnlltled, "ihe minutes of the last meeting." The following were elected officers for the coming year: president, Mrs. Herbert Peter ten, vice president, Mrs. Elmer Michelsen, Sr.; secretary-treasurer, Mrs. Murrary Mutter; Mrs. Oeorge Smith, reporter; Mts. S. II. Harmon, music chair man and Mrs. Lorensen, reading lgader. Mrs. Arthur Barkhurst and Mrs. Henry Knaup presented the lesson on "Home and Farm Protection." The October 18th meeting will be with Mrs. Har old Blaikie with Mrs. Claude Ilollenberger as co-hostess. Journal Want Ads Pay MAO Extension Club Has Meeting WEEPING WATER (Special) The MAO Extension Club met Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Fred Saathoff. Mrs. Leon Wendt, Mrs. Har old Cummlngs and Mrs. Ben Cannon were guests. Mrs. Kenneth Boyd, presi dent, announced that the club and the Kenosha Extension were also honor, clubs for 1959. They each received a 50 star flag. 'the meeting was opened with group singing led by Mrs. Lynn Kothe. Mrs. Saathoff gave a safety article on "Contact Len ses" and Mrs. Edward Van Horn gave a citizenship article on "Swimming Pools." The group will go on a tour October 5 in Omaha to several places of in terest. New officers for the coming year are president, Mrs. Ken neth Boyd; vice president, Mrs. Clarence Schmadeke, and secre tary and treasurer, Mrs. Fred Saathoff. Mrs. Kenneth Dokter and Mrs. Van Horn presented the lessen on "Home and Family Protection." A magazine and book exchange was held. The October meeting will be with Mrs. Boyd. Todd Phone 2441 Con Watkins suffered a heart attack at Plattsmouth last Sat urday and was taken by ambu lance to the Methodist Hospital where he was getting along nice ly at last report Arthur Anderson, of Ogallala, brother of Frank Anderson, Is spending some time here in his brother's home and also visiting relatives in Plattsmouth and Ne hawka. Mr. and Mrs. Guy Long and son Larry of Plattsmouth en tertained the following guests for dinner last Sunday, honoring Nancy Todd on her birthday: Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Todd Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Todd Jr., and two daughters, Jane and Beverly and Nancy Todd. Mr: and Mrs. Don Wolfe are parents of a daughter born at St. Mary's Hospital Sept. 23. They have named her Lisa Dawn. They have two other little daughters, Jan and Mary. Mrs. Ruth Ketelhut spent the weekend at Nebraska City and at Nehawka as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Lindsey and oth er relatives. Deepest sympathy of the Un ion Community Is extended to the Harrah families in the death of the brother of Robert Har rah Sr., Dee Harrah of Tecum seh who died in the hospital last Saturday. Funeral was Wednes day at Tecumseh. Mrs. Louis Crunk and child ren, of Fort Riley, Kans., spent last Saturday and Sunday at the horns of Mrs. Crunk's par ents, Mr. and Mrs. George Mar tin. The Sunday dinner guests who honored Mr. Mirtin on his birthday were: Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Jorgensen of Nehawka, Mr. and Mrs. Don Martin and child ren of Nebraska City and Mrs. Louis Crunk and children. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Crunk of Nebr aska City were afternoon callers. Mrs. George Martin attended the wedding of Doris Rogers and Lonnie Martin Friday eve ning at Nebraska City. Mrs. Alice Goldman of San Diego, Calif., sister of Mrs. Earl Zorn, was a house guest of the Zorn family the past week. Twenty ladies and the minis ter. Rev. Wm. Bavis, answered roll call telling the name of n favorite school teacher who had played an Important part in each life. Mr. 8. M. Leger was men tioned several times and it is gratifying to know he is still in his favorite profession at Avoca. Mrs. Grover Hill was in charge of the lesson, The Hospital Door. Edna Reid, Mary Linhardt Frances Miller and Joan Hill talked on the different doors "we need to open in our lives". The Murdock EUB Ladies have asked the Council to be their guests October 5. A white elephant gift exchan ge was' held at the close of the meeting. Mrs. Wenzel told of the origin of the name which comes from India. The light colored elephants were given to ,the royal family and were of little use or value to them so a way of getting rid of them was devised. Mr. and Mrs. George Lechner and Jeanie were dinner guests Sunday of the Gene Lyons. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Meyer, Noel, Mo. were guests Friday and " overnight of the Merle Meyer family. Mrs. Lydja Midkiff of Union accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Mid kiff to Lincoln Sunday where they spent the day with Mr. and Mrs. Glen Dunbar. The birthdays of Mrs. Lewis Royal and Frank were observed Thursday evening at the Frank Royal home in Nebraska City. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Royal, Nehawka; Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Read, Henry VanAckern, Palmyra; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wilken and Duane, Mrs. Dora Wilken, Syracuse. Mr. and Mrs. Chester Stone returned Saturday from a two weeks trip to the east. Mr. and Mrs John Petrow and sons ac companied them to' New York and flew from there Sunday for Spain. Mr. and Mrs. Stone were guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Petrow Sr. in New York City, visited relatives in Falls Church, Va., and Cincinnati, Ohio. They were in Washington, D. C. and drove through the Blue Ridge Mountains. Mrs. June Carmen of Crete, who attended the funeral of her brother, Clarence Trotter Wed nesday, spent the day with Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Barkhurst. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Johnson and family of Dawson were guests Thursday of the John Bucholz family. Mr. and Mrs. Wiley Jones of Salt Lake City were guests from Tuesday until Thursday of Mrs. Fannie Akins. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Ross and daughters attended the wedd ing Sunday of Miss Dorothy Col bert and Raymond Horn at the Congregational church at Weep ing Water. Herbert Stoll entered Bryan hospital in Lincoln for tests. Mr. and Mrs. Don Jackson, Tecumseh, visited Saturday at visited ' with Mrs. Lena Behrns of Avoca, Mr. and Mrs. George Jorgenson, Mrs. George John son, Mrs. Henry Straub and other relatives in Nebraska City. Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Graydon Duncan Jr. and Alice joined Suzanne for supper with Mr. and Mrs. Herb Swaderer. Mr. and Mrs. Willard Briley and family attended a picnic all present were Mary Lou Briley and Malcolm Keiberz, Lincoln; Karen Kent, Clarmda, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Russell Sell and family, Essex, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Davis and family, Randolph, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Nelson and family, Mr. and Mrs. C. Davis, Nebraska City. Malcolm Keiborz showed movies of Germany at the Ralph Nelson home in the evening. Mr. and Mrs. Nick Kohl of Imperial were dinner guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Pehrns and family. They also home in Plattsmouth Sunday Friday afternoon they visited the Leonard Thorne home. Mrs. M. E. McDonald is spending two weeks here. She has been with her husband, who is a patient at the Veterans hospital in Lincoln. His condi tion remains the same. Bob Bundy, Mrs. Josephine Reeves, Bobby and Pat of Oma ha were dinner guests Sunday at the Herbert Meisinger home. The Ralph Rathbun family of Plattsmouth called in the af ternoon.
