Plattsmouth, Nebraska Sept. 20, 19G0 Board met pursuant to ad journment. Present Melvin R. Todd, W. F. Nolte and H. L. Bornemeier, Commissioners, and Chas. Land, County Clerk. Minutes. of the last session ap proved and the following busi ness transacted in regular form: Letters from four applicants for the office of Cass County Superintendent were studied by the Board. No action was taken at this time. The Contract for re-shingling the Court House roof was signed by Carl E. Tiekotter and Melvin R. Todd, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners. RESOLUTION was signed by the Board resolving that all In heritance tax money be credited to a special fund for road Im provement only. RESOLUTION was signed that the following proposition be submitted to the voters of this county at the general election, November 8, 1960: "Shall the Board of County Commissioners of Cass County, Nebraska, commencing with the year 1961 and annually there after, until discontinued by a vote of the people of Cass Coun ty, Nebraska, levy a tax of not more than one-tenth mill on the dollar upon the assessed value of all taxable property in Cass County, Nebraska, except In tangible property, for the pur pose of establishing a fund to be used for the establishment, management, purchase of ex hibits, equipment, other per sonal property and real prop erty, and maintenance of the Cass County Historical Soc)ety, Including the construction and Improvement of necessary buildings therefor. For said proposition Against said proposition " The County Clerk was au thorized to publish said proposi tion in the Plattsmouth Journal for four weeks prior to said election. Martin Ross, Will Ost and John Chandler. Mrs. Chandler gave the devo tions. Mrs. Eva Power gave a Bhort prayer service to open the meeting. Her subject was "Tal lents". Mrs. Frank Warden gave a report on the Methodist missionaries In the Congo. Mrs. Emma Nutzman announ ced plans for a teachers and ministers reception at the chur ch Tuesday evening, Sept. 27 at 8 p.m. at the church. Members are planning guest day for the net meeting. - Some plan to at tend the seminar at Humboldt Sept. 25. Hostesses were Mmes. R. R. Andersen. Vance Balfour and Kent Balfour. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Knabe and Victor Ross attended the National Barrow show at Austin, Minn. The Hampshire boars av eraged $446 and Kilts, $187 at the sale. Thursday evening Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hockman of Dorchester visited at the Knabe home. Mrs. Knabe attended a nurses meeting at St. Joseph Hospital In Omaha Tuesday evening. Mrs. Vina Beatty had surgery at St. Marys hospital in Nebr aska City Wednesday morning. Mr. and Mrs. George Clem ents, Houston, Texas and Dr. and Mrs. Gerald Kunkel, Tuc son, Ariz., arrived to spend sev eral days with Mrs. Ona Kunk el. Jim Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur' Johnson, was 17 Monday. His evening guests were Mr. and Mrs. Conrad John son. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Brandt and sons, Mr. and Mrs Julian Johnson and family. Forty of the Methodist . Youth Fellowship had a wiener roast at the Arthur Johnson farm and then went for a ride Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Hal Hansen are their sponsors. Guests Saturday of the Hall Hansen family were Mr. and Mrs. Homer Swanson, Clare mont, S. D. and Sgt. Curtis Swanson of Offutt Air Base. Mrs Fred Hansen has returned from the Lincoln General Hos pital. The Fred Hansen family were guests at a birthday din ner given by Mrs. F. A. Hansen and Mrs. Charlotte Niday with Fred Hansen the guest of hon or. Wayne Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Johnson, was six years old Sept. 20. His evening party guests were Mr. and Mrs. Harold Johnson and family, Union; Mr. and Mrs. Bob John son and family, Talmage; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Johnson and fam ily; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Guthals, Union; Mr. and Mrs Henning Johnson and his great grandmother, Mrs. Cora VanWinkle of Union. The Rainbow Girls had Instal lation of officers Tuesday eve ning at Weeping Water. Susan Balfour and Ann Nutzman were installed in the Rainbow. Others who attended were Mrs. Vance Balfour and Carol, Mrs. Ned Nutzman, Mrs. John Chandler and Barbara, Mrs. Kent Balfour and Beverly. Naomi Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Johnson, had twelve guests at her birth day party. She was six years old. There were favors and a birth day cake with refreshments. Mrs. Kenneth Hauschild took Mrs. Irvin Hauschild to the Lin coln General Hospital Thursday to visit Mrs. Fern Hauschild of Ashland. School Notes The Nehawka Future Farmers of America chapter was one of thirteen to participate In the district 21 and Judging contest held Tuesday at Seward. Follow ing the contest they Judged sites. The luncheon at noon was at the Civic Center. The afternoon meeting was held at the open air auditorium. The sites were discussed according to score cards. The meeting was opened by Mr. Everett Barr, area dir ector of soil conservation. The correct answers to the 1st and 2nd parts of the score card were given by Mel James; third part, by Vincent Jacobson, area con servationist. One hundred-elghty-three' reg istered for the contest. There were two 4-H teams. Individual honors were: ten highest receiv ed ribbons in the FFA division; teams- received ribbons for the top 5. Papilllon received 1st place with a score of 936 out of a possible I200- Pawnee City re ceived 2nd with 936 points; Nebr aska City was awarded 3rd, 4th and 5th with respective scores of 894, 887 and 872 points. The three top teams will compete in the state land Judging of FFA and 4-H teams at Scotia Oct. 22. The Nehawka chapter will call a special meeting Friday at 3 p.m. Reporter, Dennis He back. Thelma Ketelhut, president, called the meeting of the Future Homemakers of America to or der Wednesday afternoon. The program was, .'Your Family and You." Inspiration was read by Sandra Turner. Two skits were given by Nancy Ehlers and Ev elyn Henderson. Refreshments were served by Connie Cook and Betty Janssen. The FFA and FHA banquet will be held Oct. 19. Tickets are $1.25. The FHA district convention will be held Oct. 22 at Nebraska City. FFA and FHA are planning a roller skating party. Sandra Turner reporter. Vandalism LOUISVILLE (Special) A large number of tools belonging ; to Frank Koterzina were thrown around and some were buried in; the gravel and oil was squirted on the walls and windows of a new home being built by Allen Koop on Sandhill Road recently. -Komation (Continued from Page 1) Amid fanfare, the crown bear er, Thomas Gleason. age 4 son of Mr. and Mrs. Burton Gleason of Ames, Iowa, made his appear ance. His grandfather, the new king, Walter Gleason, followed close behind. King Gleason, better known to all as Walt, was born on a farm In York County. He was one of a family of 2 boys and a girl. His father was a locomotive engineer and was killed in a Grand Trunk Pacific Railroad accident In British Columbia, Canada, when King Gleason was 12 years old. His mother, Mrs. Kate DeBoer Gleason lives in York, mak ing her home with her daugh ter, Mrs. Lee Evans. The King is also of pioneer heritage as his grandfather Gleason was a Civil War Veter an and lived In York County until the late 1880's. He received his education in the Canadian Public Schools, at tended school at Alliance and completed his education In York. He was married in 1927 to Edna A. Moyer and to them was born one child, Burton, who is now with the Atomic Energy Commission at the Iowa State University at Ames. There are three grandchildren, a grandson and two granddaughters. King Gleason entered into the Public Utility business in 1928 with the Iowa-Nebraska Light and Power Co. which was the predecessor to the present Cen tral Electric and Gas Company. Before coming to Plattsmouth in 1948 as District Manager, he was superintendent at York and local manager at Aurora. He was scout master for 'Ak years, 5 years president of the Volunteer fire department and five years assistant fire chief at Aurora. As manager of our local Gas Company he has merited the respect and confidence of the people of this community as a conscientious and cooperative utility manager. King Gleason has been an active member of the Presby terian Church of this city and has served on various commit tees in church work. He is also active in civic affairs, serving on the board of directors of the chamber of commerce for 10 years and headed mafiy of the important committees and acti vities of that organization, and serving as. president of the chamber for one year. He lis also a member of the Plattsmouth Rotary Club and has helped with the King Korn Klub Work in the past years. His interest In cooperation in local affairs contributed much to the betterment of this part of Cass County.
