Murray Homemakers Picnic Is June 26 MURRAY The Murray Homemakers met May 12 at the home of Mrs. George Minford with Mrs. Harley Cottingham as Co-hostess. The meeting was called to or der bv Mrs. Henry Hobscheidt with all saying the Hag salute and singing. Nine member's were present with six guest's. A report of the spring tea was given by Mrs. Charles Martin. Suggestions were given ' for someone to go to the diabetics' Camp. A motion was passed to have the family picnic at Hostetter's June 26. Each member will bring a picnic basket for the noon meal at one o'clock. Mrs. Charles Martin and Mrs. Frank Fitzoatrick were appoint ed for children's game's and prize's. Hild. 724 Avenue B, Plattsmouth will commemorate their 55th wed ding anniversary Tuesday, May 24. A family covered dish dinner at noon, May 22, is planned at the Christ Lutheran Church on the Louisville Road. Mr. and Mrs. Hild have both been lifetime residents of Cass County. She i.s the former Dora Wulf. daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wulf of Avoca. Mr. Hild i.s the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Adam Hild: all pioneer residents of Cass County- The honored couple have one son, Henry, who lives on the family homestead: two married grandsons, Gary L. of St. Louis, Mo., and Roger D. of Platts mouth, one great grandchild, Kelly Rae, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Hild. Mrs. VanAckern Hosts RLDS Croup The Women's Department of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints met Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. William Van Ackern of Murray. Mrs. Elwin Coolman gave the devotions on the theme "Christ like Growth." The lesson was taught by the pastor Elwin Coolman. The les son "Why Should I Tell My Neighbor?" concerned the need for each to be a missionary minded so that thp message of Christ may reach others. During the business meeting a workshop was planned for the afternoon of May 26. June hostess will be Mrs. Robert Miller. Union War Dads, Auxiliary Meet UNION War Dads and War Dads Auxiliary met at the Le gion HaH Tuesday evening. Mrs. Loy Clarence and Mrs. Ivan Balfour were the hostesses. Members voted to give $1 each to various projects Care, Edu cation of Korean Nurses, Cru sade for Freedom, View Master rfor VA Hospital, Arsenal of Democracy, Presidents Quilt. They voted to sell vanilla, pepper to unit members for a coffee maker.'.They will hold a bake sale' June 4 at" the Snod grass Store to raise money to meet the various demands ex pected of the Auxiliary. Mrs. Clarence read a paper on Gold Star members. C of C Women's Division Meets The Chamber of Commerce Women's Division held its reg ular monthly meeting on May 11 at Consumers Hall. The meeting was preceded with a covered dish dinner which was thorough ley enjoyed by all attending. A short business meeting was conducted by Mrs. Harold A. Smock, president, and the mem bers discussed various projects which will be coming up in the future. It was voted to have a coffee and bake sale at the Blue Flame Room on Saturday, June 4, be ginning at 9 a.m., the proceeds to go towards the float for the County Fair and King Korn Karnival. Legion Auxiliary At Union Honors Cold Star Mothers UNION The Gold Star members of the American Le ion Auxiliary received several recognitions and were presented corsages Tuesday at the regu lar meeting of the Union unit. Barbara Banning, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hollis Ban ning, has been selected to repre sent Union at the King Korn Karnival at Plattsmouth, this fall. The Unit will serve the Union High School Alumni banquet May 28. Poppy Day report was made; more than 300 poppies were sold and $65.60 was taken in. Auxiliary members will pre pare 30 poppy crosses for mem bers of the Legion to place on veterans graves for Memorial Day. Mrs. Ed Ruby gave a report on the Easter Egg Hunt. Mrs. Abe Exline reported an "Mothers Day." Five members from Union had attended the Cass County meeting at Weeping Water and reported on the meeting. , Mrs. Verl Ackley arid Mrs. Bob Murdock presented a spec ial program of all types of mus ic, observing music month. Hostesses for the day were Mrs. John Everett, Mrs. Robert Harrah Sr. and Mrs. Frank Hobscheidt. St. Paul's Circle One Has Meeting Circle One of St. Paul's E. and R. Church met Tuesday in the church parlors with Mrs. Otto Lutz, Mrs. Richard Wohlfarth, Mrs. Elizabeth Engelkemeier and Mrs. Robert crooKnouser as hostesses. The meetine was presided over by Mrs. William Of e, the chairman. Devotional was oy Mrs. P. A. Meisinger. Scripture was read by Mrs. Otto Lutz. There were 24 members and two visitors present.' A card was signed by all pres ent and was to be sento Mrs. August Gall who is at the St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha. A meeting was held for those who will serve Coffee Social May 26. FBIKTHS Son Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bauers of Weeping Water are parents of a son, born Wednesday at St. Mary's hospital at Nebraska City. Mrs. Bauers is the former Janet Betts. Daughter Mr. and Mrs. Dale Schnackel of Lincoln are parents of an 8 lbs. 5 oz. daughter born May 4. Mrs. Schnackel Is the former Marvel Meisinger. Mrs. Edna Meisinger of Louisville is the grandmother, and Mr. and Mrs. Henrv Heil Jr.. of Louisville are the great-grandparents. This is the couple's first 'child, also tne first grandchild of Mrs. Mei singer. The baby has been nam ed Susan Kay. Itaiiphtpr Mr. and Mrs. Paul Weible of Nebraska City are the parents of a 6 lbs. 13'2 oz. daughter, Ardel Kathleen born May 14 at St. Mary's Hospital. Mrs. Weible is the former Marilyn Sporer. Pamela Tritsch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Tritsch, who underwent an appendec tomy at St. Mary's hospital at Nebraska City, has returned home. Mrs. George Creamer and sis ter, Mrs. Lulu Wolfe of near Murray were here Tuesday to at tend the funeral service for Dee Hostetter, a long time neighbor. They are members of one of the pioneer families of this portion of Cass county, daughters of the late Mr. and Mrs. George W. Shrader. Mrs. Creamer is obser ving her 87 birthday on May 29th at her home two miles from her birthplace while Mrs. Wolfe has just enjoyed her bir thday observance. Robert Wood and wife of Du buque, la., have been here en joying a visit at the home of Mrs. Rose Day, mother of Rob ert. He is a member of the U.S. Coastguard force and has the rank of Boatswain Mate first class. Larry Johnson of Ottumwa, la., was here a few days this week visiting with his mother, Mrs. Lois Johnson and other rel atives. He was at Creighton, Neb., to attend the funeral of his grandmother, Mrs. Daisy Schneider, Sunday. Mrs. Everett Morehead was taken Tuesday to St. Catherine's hospital at Omaha. She was taken up by Caldwell-LInder ambulance, Mrs. Morehead un derwent surgery Wednesday. Members of the junior-senior choir of the high school, and their instructor, Miss George, enjoyed a no host barbecue sup per at the country home of Al bert and John Wetenkamp Tuesday evening. Mrs. Elwin Coolman, Mrs. Minerva Coolman, Mrs. Dorothy VanAckern, Mrs. Leona Tilson of this city .were at Nebraska City this week to attend a meet ing of the East Nebraska Dist rict Womens Institute of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Representatives were present from Omaha, Lin coln, Fremont, Plattsmouth, Auburn, Union anod Nebraska City. Steve Loper Celebrates Birthdav Steve Loper had a birthday party at his home Tuesday af ternoon. His school boy class mates helped him celebrate, his 10th birthday. Present were Daniel Smutz, John Speck, David Kohl, George Wuelling, Rodney Jenkins, Ron nie McKinney. Michael Mahl- man, Brian Hamilton, Larry None, Billy Pankonin, Tommy Hirz and Larrv Rhoden. Games were played and prizes were awarded to George Wuel ling and Tommv Hirz. ' Refreshments of chicken salad sandwiches, potato chips, cake and punch were served, and later the honoree opened his many gifts. Tinchers Visit In North Platte Mr. , and Mrs. Dick Tincher and family left by train Friday night for North Platte where they were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Rieke and Roderick. The Riekes' . just recently moved to North Platte from Plattsmouth where Mr. Rieke was promoted and transferred with his company. They like North Platte fine, and have located at 1035 West E. Street. Mrs. Tincher and Mrs. Rieke are sisters. 4-Mile Extension At Miss Hunter's Four mile Extension Club met for their May meeting at Miss Helen Hunters.' Sixteen were present. The usual business meeting was conducted and plans for a picnic were made. Seven members attended the May Day Tea at Weeping Wa ter. Mrs. Ingwerson gave some comments on the Tea. The club welcomed, a new member, Mrs. George Born. Fannie Bierl, gave the lesson on House Plants and Bulbs. Members exchanged plants. The hostess and co-hostesses, Mrs. Earl Becker and Mrs. Leonard Born served a luncheon buffet style. Mrs. Adkins is also here te attend the graduation of Sharon Miller. She will be accompanied on the trip home by her son, Ray, who makes his home with the Redds. Bill Roloff entered the Clark son Hospital today for surgery. Mr.' and Mrs. Frank Rebal re turned home Tuesday from Mi ami, Fla., where they visited Mrs. Rebal's sister, Mrs. Char les Kopp, who is ill. The couple made the trip by plane. Mrs. Rhoden has been critically ill for many weeks and hosDitalized. and the news of her progress is most gratifying to her family and friends. John Hobscheidt of this city and Phillip Schafer of Nehaw- ka departed on an early train Wednesdav morning for the west coast. From Los Angeles the men will board the i,ur linp" for sailing to Hawaii where they will vacation for several weeks, Mrs. Roy Knorr returned Tuesday from Iowa City where she visited her daughter, Mrs. Robert Tucker and family. Mr. and Mrs. Philip Meisinger of Lincoln were here today for a few hours while enroute to Pekin. 111., to visit relatives and old friends. They were -guests , at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lutz. St. Paul's Circle Three Meets Circle 3 of St. Paul's Church met at the church parlors Tues day evening with Mrs. Verner Meisinger and Mrs. George Kai fenberger as hostesses. Devotions were presented by Mrs. Harold Bentzinger and Mrs. Don Born in the absence or De votional Chairman Mrs. Ray mond Hild. Mrs. Earl Marler, chairman, conducted the business meeting. The meeting was closed ..by all repeating The Lord's Prayer. Contests were conducted and prizes awarded. Mrs. Edgar Mei singer drew the door prize. Refreshments were served to 15 members and 1 visitor Mrs. Kate Hild. Next meeting will be held at the church parlors with Mjrs. John Schutz, Mrs. Joe Loper and Mrs. Harold Bentzinger. Fairview Club Women Meet Plattsmouth Fairview Womens Club met May 12 at the "gas co", with Mrs. Myrtle Tritsch and Carol Tritsch as hostesses. The meeting opened with the reading of the extension club creed and repeating the "Flag Salute. Roll call was answered by 16 members. President Mrs. Glen Kraeger gave a report on her attendance of the "May Tea" at Weeping Water, also of the all day meet ing at Lincoln, which was plan ned by the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce honoring "Extension Club Presidents" of several counties. Mrs. Eugene Meisinger gave the lesson, "Vacation in Nebr aska", Mrs. A. Lentz gave the lesson "Success with house plants.". Mrs. Jesse Adams gave the lesson "Control on house hold Insects." A plant exchange was held. The club picnic will be the first Sunday in August, at the city park in Plattsmouth. Refreshments were served by the hostesses. Karlene Senf in Alpha Lambda Delta Karlene 1 Kay Senf, freshman at the University of Nebraska, has earned membership in the University of Nebraska Chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta. This organization is an hon orary scholastic fraternity for freshman women. Karlene is a graduate of the Plattsmouth High School, class of 1959. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Karl Senf of this city. 4-H NEWS The Rock Bluff Agricultural Club members held their meet ing May 17 at the Rock Bluff School. All members were pres ent. We worked on our record book and discussed our tour. There were no demonstrations given. Meeting was adjourned at 2 o'clock at the school. Marilyn Mohr, news reporter. Miss Roddy To Wed Mr. Eddy Saturday UNION The wedding of Miss Carol Lee Roddy. ' daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Roddy of Union, to Robert Eddy of Humboldt will take place Sat urday, May 21, at Union Baptist Church. Furses Vacation , In Minnesota Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Furse left this week for Henning, Minn., to open their cabin at Sandas Beach. They will be joined at the summer home later by Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Fufse. Ronald L. Furse will be grad uated in June from the Univer sity of Nebraska, school of Journalism. He has accepted a position with a newspaper in Dennison, la., where the couple will take residence following a brief vacation in Minnesota. , June Bride-to-be Honored At Parties Miss Jeanne M. Kawa of Oma ha was hostess at a bridal show er on May 10 honoring Miss Mary Ann Bergmann at the Compass Room XVI U. S. Army Corps. The kitchen shower was at tended by 25 guests, friends of the bride-to-be. Decorations included pink and lilac umbrellas and bouquets of daisies in pink and white. In dividual decorated cakes, ice cream and coffee were served. Games were played and prizes won by Miss Linda Pickett, Mrs. Ted Filepowicz, Mrs. John Mc Carten, Miss JoAnn Fish of Omaha and Miss Joan Bergmann of Plattsmouth. A miscellaneous shower was given for the bride-to-be by rela tives of the bridegroom May 1 at the IOOF Hall in Omaha with 75 guests attending. May-Poles in pastel pink, blue, green, yellow and lilac, the bride's color, decorated the guest and gift tables. Carnation corsages of pink and white worn by Miss Berg mann and her attendants. Miss Bergmann, daughter of the late John Bergmann and Mrs. Bergmann of this city will be married June 4 to Mr. Gary T. Chladek, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. T. Chladek of Omaha at St. John's Church, Plattsmouth. Billie Jo Marler Birthday Honoree At Slumber Party Billie Jo Marler celebrated her 12th birthday Friday with a slumber party at her home. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Marler, her birthday was May 15. Guests present were Linda Bowman, Susie Haith, Mary Schuetz, Carol Long, Dixie Wil son, Pam Cherry, Sharon Schalk, Vicky Henry, Dona Stepatt and the honoree. . May 14 Murdock High Junior-Senior Banquet was held at a restaurant in O maha. An Hawaiian theme wascar ried out in the decorating and program. Alter a short program the group went to see t h e movie "Ben Hur." Rick Mayabb Plays Flute in K. C. Band The North Kansas City Dist. Beginners Band won a rating of "Superior" at tbj? Music Fes tival at St. Therese's College in Kansas City, Mo. The band placed 1st over all other grade school bands in the Kansas City - St. Joseph Diocese. Since the band was organized in February of 1960, Hhey were given an extra merit of praise by the judges.. One of the members of this band is Rick Mayabb. He plays flute. Rick is the son of Mrs. H. Lee Smith, Jr. and George Mayabb of Kansas City. His grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Walling and Claud Mayabb of Platts mouth. American Legion Junior Auxiliary To Parade Friday Twelve members and leaders, Mrs. Ted Ohnoutka and Mrs. Robert McClanahan, of the American Legion Junior Auxil iary met for their April meeting at the Gas Company. Barbara Loper, flag bearer, advanced the flag to open the meeting. It was agreed to take part in the Armed Forces Parade, May 20th. President Judy Baumgart appointed a committee of Don na Porter, Judy Rhoden and Rosetta Rains to decorate a wagon to carry the ball of rags members have been tearing as their project. The group will march in the parade, to meet at Hinky Dinky Store lot at 7:30 p.m. to assemble. A new member, Leone Onout ka, joined the auxiliary. The remainder of the evening was spent tearing rags, and later Judy Rhoden, hostess ser ved refreshments. PTA Council Plans Instruction School The Plattsmouth PTA Coun cil is planning a School of In struction Tuesday May 24 at 7:30 at Columbian School. There will be buzz-sessions on "What Do Our By-laws Say?" a talk on the 'tools' of PTA and a panel concerning program pre sentation. This meeting is for PTA of ficers, Committee Chairmen, and any others interested ' in PTA and its role in working with the school to promote the wel fare of children and youth. Their quota was more than doubled this year. Membership was divided into two teams. Irene Smith headed the winners while Helen Jor dan captained the losers. The losers prepared and served a delightful chicken dinner to a large attendance. High producer awards were presented to Fannie Hickey and Irene Smith. A special prize was awarded Rose Meisinger. Following the dinner, a pro gram was presented by pupils of the Antholee Rizzl Dance Studio. 4-H Week Trips Given at Nehawka NEIIAWKA (Special)-A 4-H Club Week Trip, sponsored by the Maple Grove Extension Club, was given to Thelma Ket- , elhut with Jackie Dod;,on as al ternate. Bill Johnson recieved the Sheldon Store award, which is gjven this year by Marion Tucker. The alternate is Lois Whittington. This is the third trip given by the Maple Grove club and the 15th trip awarded by the Shel don Store. ' Mrs. Martha West, Cass Coun ty home agent, met with Mines. Will Ost, Henning Johnson, ., Fred Wessel, Vance Balfour and v F. O. Sand at the Sand home Friday afternoon to select the winners.
