Mrs. Melvln Sturm was co hostess with her daughter, Mrs. Jack Reece at the Reece home at a 1 o'clock luncheon Satur day. There were seven tables of bridge. The School picnic at District 82 was well attended Sunday. Dinner was served at noon. Mrs. Emil Relke, the teacher, will return next year. Mrs. Fred Martin entertained 15 children and three mothers at a birthday party for her son Stevie on his sixth birthday on Saturday. Ice cream and cake were served. That evening, rel atives came for another party for Stevie. They were Mr. and Mrs. Archie Hightshoe and Faye, Richard Lee Alley, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Brodd and Tracy, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Walters, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Hightshoe and Mr. and Mrs. Steve Clark, Willard and Douglas. Marjorle Jones, senior, and John Earl and Evelyn Jones, juniors at Murdock High, at tended the junior-senior banquet at an Omaha cafe Saturday and saw the movie, Ben Hur. Fri day, evening, the Purple and White Revue was held at the school. Lila Timm was crowned queen and Tom Lawrence, king. Awards were given. "Mr. and Mrs. Earl Brauck muller and family were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Don Deal and sons. In the after noon. Mrs. Brauckmiller atten ded a baby shower for Mrs. Vern Lau in Murdock. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Sibert made a business trip to Super ior Saturday. They also visited with theiir parents. Mr. and Mrs. Pearl Sibert and Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Oglevie. Wilbur Lar son stayed with the Sibert chil-j dren. ! Mr. and Mrs. Melvln Sturm were hosts to a family group for Sunday dinner honoring their grandson, Billy Reece, for his birthday. Guests were the hon ored one, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Reece and Jackie, Mrs. Oscar j Reece and sons of Lincoln, Mr. i and Mrs. H. W. Steinmeyer Jr. of Columbus and H. W. Stein-1 meyer of Clatonia. The elder Mr. Steinmeyer is at the Sturm home convalescing from recent i surgery. Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Armstrong were in Wann Thursday eve ning to attend the picture of "This Is Your Life" of t Karen Rogers at the Fellowship Hall. The Rogers family have just, recently received the. film and will be showing it to their friends. Other film taken on their trip to California will also be shown soon. Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Bryant and daughters of Council Bluffs ; were Sunday afternoon visitors with Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Bach man and Mrs. Emma Jones. ' Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Swarts returned Saturday from a trip to Washington, D. C. They vis ited their son and daughter -In-law, Capt and Mr. Sidney Swarts who are leaving soon for ' an assignment in Germany. In ( the capitol, Mr. and Mrs. Swarts visited historical sites ana naa a cruise up the Hudson River to Albany, N. P. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Kupke and ' Mr. and Mrs. Freeman Haase : were Sunday evening lunch gu-: ests of Mr. and Mrs. Frank I States in Agnew. Lt. and Mrs. James Estes spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Nelson. They called on Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Scott Wednesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Rich ards spent Sunday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Nelson and their guests. Mr. and Mrs. John Jones brought their son Carl home from the hospital Friday. He is doing nicely. Mrs. W. A. Jones had Mother's Day dinner with the Jones family. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Bundy had Sunday dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Nissen and little sons. Mrs. Art Box and Mr. Box and Milton Sunday. Mr. Rleber took his son to Omaha for a physical checkup Monday and Mrs. Bennett remained with her sister. Saturday evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Sturm were Mr. and Mrs. Neal Smith and Mrs. Smith's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Sullivan of Concord and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Reece. The evening was spent playing cards. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Apple garth and family attended a family picnic dinner at Pioneer Park In Lincoln Sunday. They honored Mrs. Applegarth's mo ther, Mrs. Max Garwick of Lin coln. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Parrott were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Wescott and Carrie Ann. The two families called on Mr. and Mrs. Bob Jen sen and family near Davey in the afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Odell and Mr. and Mrs. James Odell of Omaha were Mothers Day supper and evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Odell. Mr. and Mrs.' Everett Bower and family visited with Mrs. Bower's parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Schrader near Lincoln on Mother's Day. Mrs. John Maack entertained at dinner for Mother's Day. Her guests were Mr. and Mrs. Ro bert Maack and family, Mrs. Clarence Peterson and Harold Peterson and children. Mrs. Pet erson was an overnight guest of Mrs. Maack. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Sturm were guests at a dinner at the E. K. Reece home in Lincoln, in observance of Mothers Day, also Mr. Sturms birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Sturm visited Mr. H. W. Steinmeyer at the hospital in the afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Lacy McDonald of Murdock, Mr. and Mrs. Geo rge Mooney and Miss Carla Jen kens of Ashland were Thursday supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Art Box and Milton. Coldenrod Garden Club Has Meeting AVOCA (Special Golden- rod Garden Club met with J. H. F. Ruhge Monday. Roll call was garden hints for the mon th. It was voted to have the flower show June 1 with the Green Thumbers Garden Club helping. ; y Program was Mums by Mrs. Elmer Hennings. She gave each member a label. Mrs. Louis Ruhge spoke on vines for trellises and gave each member an ivy plant. The host ess gave each member a plant for her garden. It was decided to have an! evening picnic to be held June 19 at the home of Mrs. August Siemoneit. A sa.'ty report on careful use of chemicals in spraying was given by Mrs. John Halmes. Mrs. Victor Stoehr gave her legislative report with a discus sion on the voting rules and reg ulations of Nebraska as well as an article to change the license plates to denote your driving re cord. In honor of the lesson "Tots at the Table" our song leader led us in singing "Farmer in the Dell." The lesson was presented by Mrs. Peter' Halmes. Refresh ments were served by co-hostess Mrs. Stuart Meisinger. Mrs. Marshall Entertains WSWS ELMWOOD (Special) The country home of Mrs. Charles Marshall was the meeting place of the WSNS of the EUB Church May 11. A small tree with a bird fam ily resting on its branches was the center of interest during, the study period. Ladies taking the parts of the birds were: Mrs. Gussie Jach ens, Mrs. John Stolz, Mrs. Ray Vogt, and Mrs. Harold Wilken. Each described the Christian home of one of the members of the mission in New Mexico, in Kentucky and in Florida whose roof he had occupied. The thought was emphasized that when Christ enters a home many changes are wrought. Mrs. Harvey Backemeyer and Mrs. Minnie Kunz were leaders. Leona Wilken, vacationing from her work at Espanola Hos pital in New Mexico showed color slides of the new improve ments in the mission there. Birthdays honored were those of Mrs. Dale Fleischman, Mrs. Ray Vogt, Mrs. Harvey Back emeyer and Mrs. Roy Clark. Mrs. Marshall served lunch. Elmwood Grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hall of Man hattan, Kans. are parents of a boy I'JsbraMay 15. He weighed 7 lbs. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Ray .Callaway of Unadilla, and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hall of Elmwood. Carolyn is staying with her grandparents while her mo ther and little brother are in the hospital. The Williamses now live near Lincoln but lived near Alvo several, years ago. Sharon Fredenburg presided during a short program. A skit entitled, "From Here to Eternity and Back," was presented by the high school girls. Interlude music for the skit was given by Sharon Charling on her accordion. The Freshmen Homemaking girls presented their school sew ing projects, and also their home projects in a short style review. The girls trio or Lynne Whlt temore, Phyllis Laughlin, Judy Fitzgibbon sang. Following me program, the mothers were invited to join in a tea luncheon. Diane Borne meier, Wanda Groves, and Kathy Neilsen presided at the tea table.
