Susie Cook gave an article on grafting roses, onto he roots of wild roses and told f the method of doing it. Bess Robb had the lesson on "Worms for Cultivation", "Manure" and "Compost and Mulch." This community was sadden ed by the death of Mrs. Henry Bornemeier who had been in ill health for some time. Her funeral was at the EUB Church May 14. Those attending the Cass County Convention of American Lf'Ulon Auxiliary at Weeping Water last Friday night were Mrs. Emily Gonzales, Mrs. Eth el Strabel and Mrs. Susie Cook. Mrs. Don Erikson of Omaha spent the day Friday visiting her mother. Mrs. Laura Hollen- I beck. Leona Wilken of Espanola, New Mexico, is spending her va cation visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wilken and other relatives. Callers at the home of Grace Wood Sunday were Dr. and Mrs. Richard Hornberger of Des Moines, Iowa. They had visited her mother, Mrs. Lillian Cun ningham of Lincoln, and were on their way home. The Dale Hughes family of Lincoln came for breakfast on Sunday morning and to spend the day at his parents' home, Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Hughes. In the afternoon, the other son and family, the Duane Hughes es of Lincoln called. Next Sunday is Rural Life Sunday and, all the 4-H'ers of the community will be guest at the Methodist Church. Every one is invited. Vacation Church School will be 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. May 31 through June 10. A belated Mother's Day get together was held May 15 at the new home of Mrs. Martha Vogt. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Linnier Backstrom, Joyce and Lee of Raymond; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Vogt of Unadilla; Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Vogt and fam ily; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Vogt; Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Walkup and Billy, York; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Luetchens and Edna; Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Oehlerklng; Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Oehlerklng and daughters; Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Oehlerklng and daugh ters; Mr. and Mrs. Loren Schu anninger and family, Hallam; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Luetchens and Rev. and Mrs. Ebinger. There were special services at the EUB Church Sunday. Rev. John Norman D.D. of Lin coln, president of the Temper ance League of Nebraska, spoke to the Sunday school and gave the morning sermon. . Wm. Holke came home Mon day from the hospital follow ing surgery. Harold Krecklow came home from the Wahoo Hospital on Thursday after being taken for emergency treatment Tuesday from his work at Cowles Lake. Callers at the Krecklow home over the weekend were Mr. and Mrs. Laurence Krerklow. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wiles, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Schleifert of Man ley, Mr. and Mrs. Duane Krec kiow and friends of Lincoln and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Buell. Visitors at the Edward Ros enow home Sunday afternoon were Mr. and Mrs. Ted Koeh ler and sons, of Harvard, Mr. and Mrs. Willard Kissinger of Hastings, J. H. Oehlerklng and the Lester Rosenow family of Elmwood. Lizbeth Neilsen and her room mate of Wesleyan spent the weekend at the Swain Neilsen home. Betty Morrison of Gering and Lizbeth are fellow counsel lors in Pioneer Hall. Lizbeth will be 'a summer graduate and will teach in Beatrice next year. Mrs. Emma Lorenz is report ed to be about the same. Those taking turns being with her are Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Lorenz of Hickman, Mr. and Mrs. Fay Chambers of Council Bluffs and Mrs. Guy Clements. Mrs. Laura Sutherland came home from the hospital Sunday after several weeks there follow ing a fall in which she fractur ed a leg. Mr. and Mrs. John Creamer of Ogallala are visiting, their daughter and family, the Rel dessels of Ashland. John came Sunday morning to take Maud and Jessie to Ashland for din ner. Friday, John and Mabel, Fred, Ralph and Jessie all had supper with Maud and Jessie. Mrs. Von Spreckelson of Has tings was an afternoon caller Thursday at the Harry Arnold home. She and Mrs. Arnold were girlhood friends at Hays Center. The first crew of men work ing on the missile base west of town came to town Sunday and were hunting rooms. Mrs. Alva Reld fell on the street while carrying some gro ceries and broke her arm. She has had a lot of pain. , Attending the "Owls" dinner at the home of Grace Blessing and Richard last Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Mel Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Pratt. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Arnold, Mrs. Alfa Quell horst and from Lincoln, Mrs. Pearl Capwell. The Blood Bank will be in Elmwood June 6. Sunday, the Fred Weisheit family and their guests, Elaine Ernst and Mary Jean Biggs took picnic dinner and went to Antelope Park, Lincoln. In the afternoon, Mr. and Mrs. Weis heit went to the hospital to see their brother-in-law, Wm: Holke. Monday, Mr. and Krs. Mrs. Richard McCoy has been helping at the school cafeteria during her absence. Mrs. Bob Gakemeier and Nan cy were in Ashland Saturday afternoon for dental attention. Mrs. Bud Cuthbertson has ac cepted her old job back at Ral ston and will' start work Mon day. Mrs. Ruth Ulmer and chil dren of Seward attended church services at Trinity Lutheran on Sunday. They were dinner guests at the Elbert Stroy home and supper guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Roeber and family. They stopped at the Walter Thimgahn home to pick up Melody Ulmer who was a dinner guest of the Thimgahns. Pupils of Mrs. Dill enjoyed a trip to Lincoln Monday. They visited several places of inter est. Friday the 7th and 8th grades spent the day in Omaha, visit ing several places. Bus driver was Mr. Kropp. The McCoy family moved on Saturday into the home owned by Mrs. Lena Bornemeier of Elmwood. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Ritter of Bennet accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. James Mills and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Gustin of Murdock drove to Elliott, Iowa, Sunday to place bouquets on the grave of Viola Everett whb died not long ago. Miss Everett was a close friend of those people and a former resident of Murdock. The Ladles Aid of the EUB Church met Thursday May 12 for their usual meeting. Mrs. Gus Streich led the devotions. Mrs. J. F. Mills and Mrs. Alfa Quellhorst had charge of the program. Hostesses for the lunch were Lydia Streick, Mmes. Robert Lichtenberger, Martha Kruse, Emil Miller, Verle Stock and Will Stock. The wedding of Robert Hobbs and Mable Holiday of Lincoln took place at the EUB Church in Murdock Sunday af ternoon, Rev. Orville Matskie officiating. The EUB Ladies Aid served the wedding lunch. Mr. Hobbs is a brother of Mrs. Gan-away. Nebraska City, were Sunday vis itors of his parent?, Mr. and Mrs. Ora Voyles. , Rev. Luther Sherer, William Dettmer and Henry Stubben -dick were delegates to the Cen tral District Convention of Luth eran Churches in Omaha Thurs day and Friday. Friday Mrs. Dettmer and Mrs. John Rippe accompanied them. Renee and April Stueckrath accompanied their grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Steinkraus to Plainview to spend a few weeks. Mrs. E. Rawalt entertained the Neighborhood Club at cards Friday everting. Friday a dinner was held at the school as a farewell for Mrs. Grace Nilsen who will teach at Hampton, for Lou Stueckrath who is going to Beaver Cross ing and Mrs. Wilcoxen who will not return next year. Miss Brockhoff will marry Mr. Hild of Cook June 1. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Mustin, Indianola, were overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Stohl man and sons. Mrs. Mustin came to get her father, Rev. Horn of Arapahoe who has been at an Omaha hospital. Rev. Burchler, Panama, will be at the Congregational Church May 29 for a trial sermon.
