Mr. and Mrs. Ed James spent Thanksgiving In Lincoln at the home of Capt. and Mrs. Paul Salley. Also present were Capt. Salley's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Salley of Akron, Colo., and his brother, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Sulley Jr., and son of Denver. Mrs. Wm. Salley Sr. and Mrs. James are sisters and they all enjoyed a good visit. Capt. Salley is stationed at the Air Base. The Garden Club met with Mrs. Gail McDonald last Tues day with 12 members present. They voted to continue another year. Mis. C. J. Flelschman read some "Christmas Thou ghts". Mrs. F, M. Robb gave the lesson, "Christmas trees", "Customs," Madonnas and "The Relation of Lovers to Christian ity". Mrs. Robb demonstrated several table decorations for Christmas. Roll call was "Christ mas Ideas". Robbie, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dwlht Clements had the mis fortune to havp a heavy box strike him on the ankle last Fri day and he now is wearing a cast. He will have to use crut ches to attend school. Mrs. Dwight Clements and Mrs. Guy Clements invited a few of their friends in for coffee last Friday afternoon in honor of Mrs. Dwight Clements' moth er, Mrs. Horstman, who was to leave for her home at Casper, Wyo., Saturday night. Mrs. Orley elements, Mrs. Will Strabel, Mrs. Everett Brock man and Mrs. Emily Gonzales drove to the Veterans Hospital, Lincoln, Friday to work there, as many members of the Legion Auxiliary over the state do. Dr. O. E. Liston left for Cali fornia on his 10-day vacation. Mrs. Grace Blessing and Mrs. Alfa QiiPllhorst of Murdork call. I ed on Mrs. Laura Hollenbeck last Thursday afternoon. Another quilt is in the frames for the Methodist ladles to quilt. This one belongs to Lela Buell and is at the home of Blanche Kuehn. Sunday guests at the E. M. Schomaker home were Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Schomaker and Mr. and Mrs. Carey of Omaha. Mrs. Schomaker's , sister. Mrs. Mae Worl. her son, wife and daugh ter Grace from Sterling and Haxtun, Colo., were Thanksgiv ing guests an dspent several days here, and also at Vic Sckomahers. We would add that Ray Is up and around and feeling better than he had been. The Earl Halorsons had a sale Dec. 8 and will move to Pal myra. Their neighborhood had a farewell supper for them at District 102 school last Friday evening. Visitors at the Vic Schomakers and the E. M. Schomakers' were Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Scho maker, Judy, Donnie and Larry of Council Bluffs last Saturday p.m .The Misses Sylvia and Dor alyn Steiner of Lincoln were home over the weekend visit ing home folks, the Edmund Steiner family. Mr .and Mrs. Paul Hullfish of Lincoln were afternoon callers at his sisters' Mrs. Belle Coak ley. They had dinner at her par ents in honor of her mother's birthday, Mrs. W. H. Menden hall. Others present were Mr. and Mrs. Morris Mendenhall and John also Mrs. Verena Simpkins. Sunday dinner guests at the Phillip Hughs home were their . 2 sons and families of Lincoln, the Dwayne and Dale Hughes families. Rev. and Mrs. James Hansen and family and Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Glantz and family at tended the Christmas Carol Con- cert In Lincoln by the University Singers, Sunday afternoon. They report a fine program. Mrs. Groves' brother, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wilson and family were overnight guests at her home, Dec. 3. Mrs. Groves entertained the R. N. A. Lodge at her home. It was the Christmas meeting and two new members were Initiated, Nettie Bornemeier and Mrs. Frank Turner. Mrs. Fred Weisheit and daugh ter, Mary spent Sunday after noon with her mother. Mrs. Mary Lau in Murdock. Mrs. Lau is a shut-in and uses a wheel chair. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Fick of Ithaca called on the Dan Fitz glbbon family Sunday afternoon. School News The Elmwood Music Depart ment presented its annual Christmas program Dec. 3. There were over 500 people who attended. The elementary school child rn outdid themselves with very sweet music combined with a pleasant Christmas story in an operetta called "Red Candles." Nancy Miller, a seventh grader, did n excellent Job accompany. tag. Accompanists for the high school were, Mrs. Dwight Clem ents and Lynne' Whtttemore. ' The operetta and the high school numbers were directed by Eunice B. Stock. V Mrs. Glantz directed the num bers by the kindergarten. They "did a line job. ' ; Elmwood played their first basketball game at Eagle Dec. 4. Elmwood led at the half but was defeated 57 to 49. Our sec ond team won 41 to 14. Our volley ball team was defeated in 2 out of 3 games.. -.. ...... . . There will be a game here on Friday the 11th with Cook and on Tuesday the 15th with Mal com at Malcom. The Senior girls took the Betty Crocker Award tests last week. We have not received the re sults.. Our Christmas vacation will start Wednesday, Dec. 23. School will take up again on Jan. 4. and attended the Winter Vocal concert given by the Junior High students with Mrs. Emelgh and Ray Sage, Directors. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Dill and Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Dill drove to Wlnslde Sunday and spent the day with Mrs. Sam Relchert, Gladys and Willis. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh O'Brien of Louisville spent Thursday with Mr. and Mrs. Tom Car nicle and family. Mark Carnlcle spent Sunday with the family. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Livers and family and Mrs. Vyrl Livers were Sunday evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Liers and children at Ashland to celebrate the 11th birthday of Karen Livers. f HE PLATTSMOUTH.
