Plattsmouth Wins Dual Meet at Nebraska City Plattsmouth's two-mile relay toam of Lee Hackler, Albert Konfrst, Larry Toothaker and Hilim Nelson won In 3:59.2 Wed nesday at Nebraska City to give Plattsmouth a 58-51 dual track and field meet victory. It was a thrilling climax to a good meet. In a dual, of course, no points are awarded for se cond place In relays, so if the decision had been reversed, Ne braska City would have won the meet, 56-53. Jim Stewart continued his domination of the sprints, win ning the 100 and 220 in :10.6 and :24.6, making his record 6 wins in 6 dashes so far this sea son. Tom Wlnscot won the 440 in 57 seconds, Nelson the 880 in 2:21 and, Paul Anderson the broad jump at 17-4V2. Saturday, Plattsmouth goes to the Council Bluffs Relays, an all day meet with qualifying in the morning, finals in the afternoon. Local VFW Has Regular Meeting VFW Post 2543 held their reg ular meeting April 14, Comman der Harry Porter presiding. The post will donate $10 to the Salvation Army. Post voted to support Dept. Jr. Vice commander Paul Har mon for Dept. Senior Vice Com mander at the June Dept. en campment. Lloyd Pitch gave a report on the Red Cross Drive. A new member, Archie Smith, was given his obligation by Com mander Porter. Membership to date Is 321. Refreshments were furnished by Commander Porter and Com. mander- lect Rudy Stoll. Lunch committee was Leo nard Kalasek and Bobble Shep-ard. Missouri River Traffic Showing An Early Start Traffic on the Missouri river this year is getting away to an early start and bright prospects of this being a banner year in freighting business up and down the "old muddy," are Indicated. A number of tugboats with barges have already made the trip to Omaha and left cargo at Omaha and Nebraska City, . the only two ports in this part of the state that are active. The Siouxland, leased from Federal Barge Lines, has made the. trip to Sioux City, leaving a barge at that port. The towboat Omaha Is en route up the Missouri from Kan sas City and St. Louis and is expected to arrive at Nebraska City this week. VFW State Commander Has Very Busy Week Dale Bowman, state command er of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, has a very busy tme at this weekend in looking after the work of the organization in the state. Today Commander Bowman is at Seneca, where he will take part in the funeral services for William McCreath, past state commander of the organization and one of the long time members. On Sunday, April 18 Com-1 mander Bowman Is at Creighton where he will attend the meet ing of district No. 3. He will be the chief speaker at the meeting and banquet. Mr. Smock Presides At District Meet Harold A. Smock, state vice president of the Nebraska Junior Chamber of Commerce, presided over the district meeting held at Bellevue Sunday. Jaycee chapters represented at the meeting were Norfolk, Way ne West Point Oakland, Fremont Omaha, Bellevue, Plattsmouth, Nebraska City, Auburn, and Falls City. The State officers present were Byford Elwonger of Auburn, sta te president; Ken Sunderman, Norfolk, Jim Hill of Falls City, and Mr. Smock. The ' Bellevue Mrs. Jaycees were hostesses to the wives from the visiting chapters. They en tertained at a tea and a pro gram on the care of flowers and plants. The program was given under the sponsorship of the Bellevue Florist Shop. Following the session the afternoon was highlighted by a tour of the Strategic Air Com mand Headquarters at Offutt Air Base, followed by a chicken dinner at the NCO Club on the base. There were 95 men and women in attndance at Mr. Smock's dis trict meeting, with 88 making the tour of S.A.C. and 83 re maining for dinner in the even ing. Attending from Plattsmouth in addition to Mr. and Mrs. Smock were Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Mc Knight, Mr. and Mrs. Don Born, Mr. and Mrs. Dwayne Freeburg, Mr and Mrs. Charles Warga, Mr. and Mrs. Grant Coolbaugh and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Grosshans. Rasmus Lauritzen Vice-President Of Danish Brotherhood State meeting of the Danish Brotherhood and Danish Sister hood, held at Omaha Tuesday, selected a Cass County man Ras mus Lauritzen of Weeping Wa ter, as the state vice president of the order that has a large membership over the state. Hans Madsen of Minden was named president and Elner Ol son of Beaver Crossing secretary-treasurer. Jessie Jensen of Lincoln was named head of the Sisterhood. Jaycee president Wayne Sch neider said today that final ar rangements are being made. The two previously announced Judges, Chief Robinson of Bel levue and chief Tesch of Platts mouth will be Joined by chief of police Clarence Iverson of Ne braska City who has judged the two past Road-E-O's here. There will also be two patrolman from Omaha, helping Judge the con test. This year's winner will go to the state Road-E-O at Hastings in June. Last year's winer Tom Mincer, and the previous year's winner, Dan Wehrbein, both competed in the state Road-E-O j and made a fine showing for Plattsmouth. General chairman, Alan Wiles today said that he had 17 ap plications and expects others. The written test will be given at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the Scanlan Brothers Maytag. Automobile dealers of Platts mouth are furnishing the cars for the contest. Jaycee president Wayne Sch neider today urged all people to come and watch the Road-E-O. Local Authorities Probe Liquor Theft Larceny of liquor from Dick's Liquor store in Lincoln is being Investigated by County Attorney Jim Begley and Sheriff Tom Solomon. Six Lincoln college students have admitted taking part in the theft Monday evening. Lance Clites, who was clerk ing at the liquor store alone, told authorities that the six men came in and while one of the men were making a purchase of beer he observed another of the group taking a bottle of whiskey and leave without paying for it. Clites said he followed the man out to the car and made him give up the bottle of whis key. While Mr. Clites was out side the other five students re moved additional whiskey from the shelves and took off.. Three of the students got Into the car while the other three took off on a run north through Eagle and were later picked up by the youth in the car. Solomon who was in the vicin ity of Weeping Water answered the call. Whiskey and beer the youths had taken along with one of the youths' shoes was found two blocks north of the liquor store in a ditch by Solomon. Tuesday the youth were loc ated and admitted their part In the theft. The youth who made the purchase of beer was over 21, the remainer of the youths were younger. Dick Lechty, owner of the store, said a similar trick last Friday cost him part of his liq uor stock. The loss was not dis covered until after the men had left the store. Included in the settings in which the story's action takes place in ClnemaScop and color are the Bois de Boulogne; the Palais de Glace, Paris's 100-year-old ice skating rink; the fa mous Maxime's Restaurant; the Tuileries Gardens; Place de L' Opera, and some of the oldest and most picturesque streets an the Left Bank. Against this background, were I filmed scenes of both romance and revelry, the latter includ ing a colorful Masked Ball and a spectacular "Battle of Flow ers." "Gigi" is based on the famed noval by Colette and boasts a new musical score by Alan J. Lerner and Frederick Loewe, who wrote the hit songs of Broadway's "My Fair Lady."
