Sharon Stock and Ruth Ann Meyer. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Reccard of Plattsmouth were Saturday afternoon guests of Mr. and Mrs. O. R. Reccard. The Eighth Grade Class elec ted the following officers for six weeks. They are President, Beverly Philpot; vice president, Richard Elliott, secretary and treasurer Marv Alice Wood; news reporter Dennis Gochen our. The club has been named Junior High Indians. Mrs. Adam Cook received word this past week from her son Ralph at North Platte he had been stung on the shoulder by a black widow spider. It was necessary for him to be hospital ized for a week. Rev. and Mrs. Chris Nyrop are new residents in Weeping Water, moving here from Arca dia. Rev. Nvrop has retired from the ministry. He was minister of the Congregational church in Arcadia. Mike Stacev has been elected president of the "W" Club with Bill Miller as vice president and Jerome Murphy, secretary and treasurer. Mrs. Roy Wiles and Mrs. Con ant Wiles were Wednesday gu ests of Mrs. Norman Urwin of Murray. Charles Roberts of Omaha un derwent surgery the past week, at St. Joseph's Hospital. Mrs. Vernon Roberts visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Roberts the first bf the week. Mrs. Roy Harshman and Mr. and Mrs. Claude Johnson of Lin coln were Tuesday afternoon gu ests of Edith and Daisy John son. Roberta Knaup is attending the University of Nebraska and al so working part time as secre tary in the office of Dr. Galen Saylor, head of secondary edu cation at the University. The Past Noble Grand Circle met Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. E. A. Michelsen, Sr., with Mrs. George Smith as co-hostess. In the absence of the president, Mrs. Mary Domingo, Mrs. Henrv Knaup, conducted the business meeting. Cards were sent to the members who were ill. The hostess served re freshment. The next meet ing will be at the Lodge Hall. Officers were elected in the four High School grades for the coming year. They are: Fresh men. Leonard Doty was called to Perham. Minn., by the illness of Elmer Klepser. He was in a coma for several days but is Improved. Jim Stacev. son of Mr. and Mrs. E. Thomas Stacey, enroll ed Monday at the University of Nebraska. Jim pledged the Pni Kappa Psi fraternity. His broth er Charles is a member of this fraternity. Jim is a sophomore at the university, taking a pre law course. The Friendly Neighbor' Club met Thursay afternoon at the home of Mrs. Harlon Stock with nine members present and one guest. The afternoon was spent visiting. Mrs. Glen Taylor con ducted some interesting games. Roll call was answered by tell ing of some interesting thing that had been done during the summer. The next meeting will be Oct. 2 at the home of Mrs. Taylor. Roll call will be answer ed by bringing a houseplant or a slip from a houseplant. A surprise birthday party was held Sunday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Wade and boys, honoing Mrs. Wade on her birthday. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Lary Mehulka and girls and Mr. and Mrs. Ray mond Freeman and children. Homemade ice cream and cake were served by the guests. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Rhodes and Larry of Sheldon visited friends in Weeping Water over the weekend. Rick Applegate, and Charles Seeger enrolled at Wesleyan Col lgee. Gary McDonad and Linda Norris enrolled at Doane College in Crete; Phil Rhodes register ed at Peru State Teachers Col lege; Sam Beck will take his schooling at the University of Nebraska. They are all 1958 graduates of the Weeping Water High School. The Weeping Water Band Mo ther's Club met Monday evening in the music room at the school. David Mullin, treasurer gave a report on the Band Mother's' stand which they had at the j Cass County Fair. The mem bers voted to buy two band uni-i forms and severals band hats.j Discussion was held on several j subjects. The girls used as their theme for the mixer, hon oring the freshman class, "A round the World with FHA." Wednesday night the girls serv ed the Cass County Men's Asso ciation at the school. Thursday night the FHA members, advi sor and the chapter mothers took their Teen-age-Consumer trip to Lincoln. A number of projects have been planned for the year. A girl has to take Homemaking in school in order to be a member 'of FHA. The WSCS held their Septem ber meeting in the Methodist church parlors Tuesday after noon with a good attendance. Mrs. Vincent Rehmeier presid ed at the meeting in the absence of the president. Mrs. John Nor ris conducted a prayer service i v and Bible quiz. Mrs. C. F. Weide man presented the devotions with song and scripture. She! explained the theme for the year study will be "Christ for the World, We Sing". Mrs. Richard Lauritzen gave a Church Missions. talk "Home,' Plans were made for enter taining the ladies of the dis trict Seminar to be held in Weeping Water Sept. 29. They also decided to visit the Crow ell Home at Blair at the meet ing in October. A large birthday cake was the centerpiece for the birthday table. He was returning to his home at Borger, Tex., after being dis charged from the Air Force two weeks ago. Fourteen Cass County 4-H Club members and leaders were guests of Gold and Company at the annual 4-H Club party at the Cornhusker Hotel in Lincoln during the State Fair. In moist cool seasons, destructive populations can build up in a remurkalby short time. The damage suffer ed is two-fold; young plants are affected in the late fall and ear ly winter; and further loss oc currs just before harvest in the late spring and early summer. Hessian fly ran be controlled effectively. Cpntrols are: 1. Plant resistant varieties such as Ponca and Pawnee. 2. Destroy by discing, all volunteer wheat that comes up before the fly safe date. 3. Plow infested stub ble early to bury the flax seeds. 4. Plant after the fly-safe date. The avegare fly-safe dates for Cass County are September 27 for the northern and western parts of the county and Septem ber 28 for the southern and eas tern parts of the county. Cass 4-H'ers at Ak-Sar-lJen This Week Cass County 4-H livestock ex hibitors wound up 1958 fairs and shows at the Ak-Sar-Ben Live Stock Show in Omaha. Twenty-eight boys and girls participated in the baby beef, beef breeding heifers, swine, sheep and dairy shows. York County Home Extension Club women are readying the welcome mat for more than 500 Nebraska women who are ex pected to attend a meeting of the Nebraska Council of Home Ex tension Clubs in York September 16-18. Mrs. Willis Lorensen of Weep ing Water, Mrs. Orris Lanning of Eagle, Mrs. Sterling Ingwerson of Plattsmouth and Mrs. Jesse Westlake of Elmwood will attend the meeting as official repre sentatives of the Cass County Home Extension Council and Clubs. All Extension club mem bers are urged to attend and visitors are welcome. Featured speakers at the three day annual meeting will be Miss Laura Lane, associate editor of Farm Journal magazine, and Frank L. Teuton, information officer, Agricultural Research Office, U. S.
