Mrs. Frank Nickels baked a birthday cake. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Van Horn, John and Myrna and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Nickels and Velda of Plattsmouth wore also dinner and lunch guest.s. Mr. and Mrs. Buster Baxter of Lincoln were Saturday over night guests of Mr. and Mrs. David Baxter nnd boys. Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Sherman and family of Stella and Mrs. Mary Sherman of Auburn and Vernon FeiRhner of Nemaha were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Sherman and family. The Wilbur Serman family and Mr. Feighner visited in the afternoon with Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Feighner and fam ily of Louisville. They were eve ning and overnight guests of the Shermans. Mr. and Mrs. Rich ard Ashlaock were also Sunday guest.s and they all enjoyed Ice cream in the evening. Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus Living ston were Thursday afternoon guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Lutz of Plattsmouth. Sunday after noon guests at the Livingston home were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wood and Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Livingston of York. INI t a c to TAKPAY MARCH 1ST IS THE ASSESSMENT DATE The last date for making a return is April 20th. All schedules filed after the 20th day of April will be pena lized 50" of the total valuation. An assessor will call at the door of all persons in the county, with the exception of Plattsmouth City. Tax payers in Plattsmouth City will make their return in the office of the County Assessor. 35' All items will be listed at actual value and taxed at of that value. The 1957 Legislative Bill 359 requires all Business Inventories to be listed on a separate schedule. The in ventory schedule must be fully completed before the actual business schedule is made. Legislative Bill 553 has repealed the former system or taxing grain. An excise tax will be based on the pro duction of the 1957 Crop. Please cooperate with the assessor as his time is limited. Mr. and Mrs. Rolland Cooper of I'latt.smouth wore Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Cooper. Clifford Coop er accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Rolland Cooper to Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Cooper and family where they visited in the after noon. The American Leuion Auxil iary met Tuesday evening- in the Legion Hall. The group do cided to set aside the money for a girl to go to Girls State so that when the application arrived it could be sent in im mediately. Mrs. Richard Bickford gave a report on the Heart Drive. Mrs. Jim MeVay was appointed Poppy Chairman and Poppy Day will be observed May 3. Mrs. Vern Harter gave a talk on "Legislative Program" and conducted three quizes on "Am ericanism." Mrs. Harter and Mrs. Johnson took the members to the cafe for refreshments fol lowing the meeting. Mr. and Mrs. R. O. Baker entertained Mr. and Mrs. Robert Baker and family Friday eve ning for supper in honor of the birthday, of their son, Robert. Mrs. R. O. Baker was host to her pinochle club on Thursday afternoon with one extra guest, Mrs. Alma Berner. High score and traveling prize was won by Mrs. Ethel Hermann with Mrs. Berner winning low. The group will meet March 6 with Mrs. Hermann. Edwin Rasmusson L a guest in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Rasmussen and girls. He is also visiting with his grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Rasmussen. Mrs. Nell Dowler of Omaha spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Wiseman. They attended the smorgasbord alt the Christian Church in Elm wood Saturday evening. The DAR met Friday after noon with Mrs. C. E. Tefft and Esther Tefft. Mrs. Lawrence Wi seman and Mrs. Oren Pollard of Nehawka were elected as del egates to the State Conventon at Hastings in March. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Steinkamp were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gardner and family of Lincoln. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Clark of Lincoln were Saturday over night and Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Burgen. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Burgen were Sunday afternoon callers. Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Stock of Kearney were Saturday supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ilarlon Stock. They also vi-ted with Mr. and Mrs. Jim Kivett, returning to Lincoln in the evening and spending Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. William Gussett. Frank Pace broke his left arm near the shoulder a week ago Sunday. He was taken to the University Hospital in Omaha and was able to return to Rest Haven on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Anderson of Omaha brought him to Weeping Water and also visited with Mrs. Pace. Mrs. Joe Sheehan and family visited Mr. Pace on Saturday afternoon and with Mrs. Pace also. Mrs. John Heebner received a letter from her daughtei-in-law, Mrs. John Heebner Jr. of Woods bo ro, Tex., and she wrote that they had a 3 inch snow, the first s:iow in about 80 or 90 years. Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Marsh of Linco.ln were Sunday afternoon guests of Mr. and Mrs. Troy Je well. Sunday evening dinner guests at the Jewell home were Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Lane. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Cooper were business visitors in Platts mouth on Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Norman U r w i n accompanied them. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Meising er and family were Wednesday evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bargmann and Debbie in honor of the third birthday of Debbie. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Thorns nd family, Mr. and Mrs. John Bergmann were also guests. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Meisinger .stopped in Plattsmouth and picked up Mrs. Henry Meisinger Wednesday afternoon and they visited Henry Meisinger at the hospital in Omaha. Mr. Meisinger Ls to be released the first of the week but his health isn't too good. Amos Cappen suffered a heart attack on Tuesday evening and is confined to his home. Mr. Cappen Ls- 78. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene McDon ald were Friday evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ilarlon Stock. Sunday evening Mr. and Mrs. Stock visited Mrs. Dora Albin and Mrs. Peter Olsen at Rest Ha ven and then spent the evening with Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Bur gen. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Lorensen, cal led their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Loren sen of Orinda. Calif., and their granddaughters, Gudrun, In grid and Gilda Wednesday eve ning to wish Gudrun happy bir thday for her sixth birthday. Mrs. Lemuel Lane visited two days the past week with Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Stovall and daugh ters of Kearney while Mr. Lane was working in the western part cf the state. She reports that her granddaughter, Evelyn has been having after effects from the flu and will have to go to an ear specialist. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Ranney of Council Bluffs, Iowa showed pictures Sunday evening at the United Missionary Church which they had taken while visiting the Holy Land. Mr. and Mrs. Ranney accompanied Dr. V. Raymond Kdman, president of Wheaton Celine, to Palestine in the spring of 1956 and the took pic tures while there. The Christian Youth Fellow ship held a party Sunday even ing in the church parlors. Jim Terry gave the evening's lesson and conducted a short business meeting. Sharon Upton and Myrna Van Horn conducted games. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Dettmer and family of Syracuse were Friday guests of Mr. and Mrs Vernon Dettmer and family. Sunday evening Mr. and Mrs. Dettmer and family were guests of Mr. and Mrs. W'ilmcr Wohlers and family of Avoca. Mr. and Mrs. Allen Ehlers and family of Avoca and Mr. and Mrs. Allen Ehlers. Jr., were Sunday supper guests of Mrs L. F. Ehlers. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Elliott and family enjoyed their dinner in Nebraska City Sunday in honor of the 16th birthday of Maribelle. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Meising er were Monday evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Spang ler of Murray. Tuesday evening the Meisinger family were gu ests at the home of Mr. nnd Mr. Stuart Meisinger and fam ily in Plattsmouth to help Ellyn celebrate her ninth birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Urwin were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Hap Hall of Stel la. They were supper guests of Mrs. Sylvia Koluike and Tom of Stella. Mareia Meisinger, 7 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Har old Meisinger, has the chicken pox. Marcla is in the first grade and there were eight absent on Friday due to sickness. Mrs. Merritt Pollard and Den ise of Seymour, Iowa, returned to thir home Sunday morning after a week's visit with rela tives in Weeping Water and Ne hawka. The Ruth Circle met on Thurs day afternoon in the Methodist Church parlors with Mrs. Rich ard Lauritzen conducting the meeting. Mrs. Charles Knox had the lesson cn Women in the Bible. Hostesses were Mrs. Lau ritzen and Mrs. Anderson. Mr. and Mrs. Art Taylor and Beverly were Thursday supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Art Tay lor, Jr., and girls of Murray in honor of the birthday of Ar thur, Jr. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kirchhoff entertained in their home Sun day evening in honor of their 25 anniversary which was Febr uary 15. Guests attending were Mr. and Mrs. William Dettmer, Mr. and Mrs. John Rippe, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wohlers, Mr. and Mrs. John Kirchhoff and Sherrall, Mr. and Mrs. Harlon Kirchhoff and children, Mr. and Mr.s. Hy Kirchhoff, Mr. and Mrs. George Kirchhoff, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Lindhart and Marianna and Mr. and Mr.s. Herman Kir chhoff of Eagle and Robert Kirchhoff of the home. Mrs. Art Taylor received a let ter from her sister, Mrs. John Dill of Norwalk, Calif., that there home was only two and one-half blocks from the air plane crash which occurred a few weeks ago. Parts of the air plane fell in their yard. The Opportunity Extension Club met on Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Murray Mut ter wtih Mrs. Frank Cook, as co-hostess. Mrs. Herbert Peter sen, vico-president, conducted the... meeting in the absence of the president. Eighteen mem bers and three guests, Mrs. L. N. Houseman. Mrs. Walter An derson and Mrs. George Domin go were present. The club voted to give money to the Diabetic Camo and Heart Fund. Mrs W. W. Jameson and Mrs. Troy Jewell gave a lesson on "Savory Soups". Next meet ing will be March 18 at the home of Mrs. Henry Knaup and Mrs. Lestor Parson as co-hostess. The general meeting of the Christian Women's Fellowship was last Thursday afternoon j at the Christian Church. Mrs. Jim Stewart and Mrs. Donald Sherman are new members of the fellowship. The missionary lesson was giv en by Mrs. Lynn Rothe and Mrs. Jim Stewart. ' Hostesses were Mrs. Leon Bond, Mrs. William Klemme and Mrs. Leo Christensen. The annual Blue and Gold Cub Scout Pack 220 banquet was held last Wednesday evening in the Christian Church p-alors with about 70 in attendance. Den mothers are Mrs. Don Rutledge Mrs. Lynn Rothe and Mrs. Nis sley Marshall. The following awards were presented: Nicky Lane, Lion Badge, three arrows; Michael Fitzpatrick, Lion Badge; Don ald Elliott, Bear Badge and six arrows; Randall Rehmeier, three silver arrows: Dale Parson, two silver arrows. The Weeping Water Chamber of Commerce named the follow ing community planning com mittee for the purpose of com munity improvement: L. R. Star chairman, Neil Munkres and George Wilkerson. Family night was held Mon day night in the Christian Church parlors with 65 in attendance. World Day of Prayer was j held Friday afternoon in the Con- j gregational church with a good ! attendance. Four churches took part in the service, Christian. Methodist, Congregational and United Missionary. Mrs. Edwar Van Horn, Mrs. Fred Ward, Mrs. Herbert Petersen and Mrs. Murray Mutter were the lead ers. Mrs. S. H. Harmon was organist. The Triple Trio from the Weeping Water High School sang two vocal numbers accom panied by Susan Wood and Mar ibelle Elliott. Mrs. James Wiles and Carelle visited Friday with Mrs. Arvin Patton and children. Lois Patton was an after school guest. FHA members and their fam ilies held their annual family night in the homemaking depart ment of the schoolhouse. This gathering is held in observance of the state FHA project, "Fam ilies Together'. Recognition was given for the largest family with 100 per cent attendance and the William Lee family won this award. One of the highlights of the evening was the awarding of the Junior homemaking degrees. The junior degree is the first degree a FHA member works toward. Two girls achieved this honor, Velda Lee, president, and Helen Mather, vice president, and the symbol awarded was a key to be attached to and worn with her FHA pin.
