II. Pollock had a very plea sant surprise on Wednesday when Carl Humphrey, of Lin coln, son of the late Dr. and Mrs. J. N. Humphrey, came down for a short visit in his old home town and to visit old friends. He has recently return ed from a hunting trip and brought trophies to show his old friend. With Mr. Pollock he enjoyed a motor tour of the city where his boyhood days were spent. The Humphrey home was located on the site now occup ied by the residence of Dr. and Mrs. L. S. Pueelik. Mr. Pollock was also pleased this past week to have a visit from Matthew Gcrinef Herold, native Plattsmouth son, now an eminent member of the bar in New York City. Mr. Herold cal led with his mother, Mrs. Eda Gering Herold and aunt, Miss Barbara Gering who he was visiting over the Thanksgiving holiday. NEBRASKA, SEMI-WEEKLY OURNAI Thursday, December 5, 1957 TAGE SEVEN Funeral Services For Sidney Guy Rhojdcs Saturday Saturday afternoon funeral services were held at the chapel of the Caldwell-Linder funeral home for Sidney Ouy Roades, old resident, whose death on the previous Sunday had brought a profound regret to the commun ity. Rev. Ward Merrill of Verdon, Nebraska, conducted the service at the chapel and at the grave in Camp Creek Cemetery, south of Nebraska City, During the service here Mrs. Hugh Stand er Jr., was soloist and Mrs. George Jacobs organist. Pall bearers were Howard Kennell, Roy McConnell, James Rhoades, Kenneth Rhoades, Le on Rhoades and Wayne Rhoades. Obituary Of Fricndrich Alircns Old Resident Friedrich (Fritz) Aherns, for many years resident of tlie southern part of Cass County, departed this life November 22, 1937 at his home, 5035 23id Street, Omaha. He was born august 8, 1879 at Oldenburg, Germany, where he spent his youthlul years. On 1 April zo, iuui ne marneu uui.i Fortkamp. To this union were born four children, three of these survive the passing of the father. Survivors include one son Harry of Elmwood, tvo daugh ters, Mrs. Maynard (Clara) Gooch of Oklahoma City, and Mrs. Arthur (Mamie) Geschke of Weeping Water; twelve grand children and eleven great grand children and a large number of friends. The wife, Dora preceded him in death in 1950 and one son, August in 1951. Mr. Ahrens owned and oper ated with his son, August, th" Ahrens bar at 5009 So 24th Street Omaha lor many years. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 20th at tlie chapel of the Hobson funeral home at Weeping Water. Burial was at the North Branch cemetery near Avoea.
