Richard Engles, Clerk No. 3G92 July 8,1957. Taken To Minnesota For The Last Rest The Caldwell-Linder Funeral Home of this city had charge of the arrangements for the fu neral of Sgt. Robert Daniel Hale, Offutt Air Force, who was drowned here on June 29th at Merritt's Beach. The young airman had, with two companions, made their way into the park from Holman's lake and proceded to start swim ming with latal result to Hale. The unfortunate young man was born Sept. 6, 1937 at Sleepy Eye, Minn., and has been sta tioned at Offutt Base since Jan uary 1955. He is survived by the mother, Mrs. Myrtle May Hale of Sleepy Eye, where the body was taken for burial. He met George and Mrs. Gccrge Gabel man, who now live at Santa Ana and are operating a restaurant at Los Alamitos, Calif., they re calling many days when George was a painter at the Burlington shops here. Among those Jim contacted were two old friends, Ernest and Joe Buttery. In the attendants at the picnic were also Edward Waintroub, former Plattsmouth boys as well as his half-brothers. General program chair man, Mrs. Lloyd Miller. Next meeting to be a picnic held at the home of Mrs. Emily Gonzales, on tourth Thursday of July. Rev. Jame6 Snyder preached his farewell sermon. Sunday, June 30, at Church of Christ where he had been the minister for the past year. He has accept ed a position of youth minister at the East Lincoln Chrisitan Church ajid he reports also he will assist the pastor, Rev. Ray mond Albers. in making calls. The church has a membership of 1,400 and 300 of these are youth membership. There are four age groups of Christian En deavor. Rev. Snyder came to Elmwood as a student pastor and received his ministerial de gree from Norfolk College in May. The family residence will be 3445 Orchard, where they moved July 1. Ed Rosenow was the church delegate for St. Paul's E. U. B. of Elmwood to the Nebraska Conference of E. U. B. churches held in Lincoln last week. The new minister for St. Paul E. U. B. Church in Elmwood and for Brethren Church, northest of Murdock is the Rev. F. C. Ebin ger, who will live in the par Usonage near the Elmwood church. Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wendt and Mr. and Mrs. Orval Miller took a ride to see the condition of crops. They went as far as Hickman where they call ed on Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Lor enz. Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Backe meyer and family and Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Peterson attended the picnic given by a Lincoln company at the Fair grounds in Lincoln, for their employees, Sunday. There are over 300 em ployees It is claimed, and all the food was furnished by the company. All who came had ham, hot dogs, buns, pop and other foods. The company had given parties at Christmas be fore but this was their first pic nic. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Juilfs have just completed the instal lation of a complete bathroom in their home with new hot wa ter heater. Mrs. Juilfs has four children to care for and this, she says is a great help to her. Mr. and Mrs. Rov Rhodcn are making some added improve ments on their farm home. They have built on two rooms, n bathroom, which included a sep tic tank and other necessary plumbing, aside from hot wat er which they already had instal led. They arc expecting then daughter, Ruby, and hr husband, Col. Gene Tarr to return from Germany soon. Mr. and Mrs. Edward O. Mil ler entertained Dr. and Mrs. Glenn R. Johnston. Hall and daughter, lva Mary, of Harlan. Ia. Mrs. Westrope is a cousin of Mrs. Orval Mil ler. The Westrope's have a win ter home in Hot Springs, Ark. On Saturday to cousin and family of Mrs. Orval Miller ar rived from California. They are Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Wallace and son. Richard, of Long Beach. Mrs. Wallace is the for mer Margaret Hayes. They were overnight guests guests and also' visited Will Mendenhall's while in Elmwood. Monday evening Mrs. Orval Miller entertained ior six o clock dinner, honoring Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Wallace and son. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. George Eidemiller, Mrs. Viola Hayes, Mrs. Gertrude Hayes, and Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Backe meyer and two sons. Enroute to Elmwood they stopped over at El Rena Okla., where Mrs. Wal lace formerly lived, a Mr. and Mrs. Willard Borne meier arranged a family garn ering and picnic dinner at Elm wood Parn Vunday, honoring Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Ledger of Denver, Colo., and their fam ily (3 boys and a girl). Ledger lived with Willard's folks when he went to school. The family was weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Willard Bornemeier. There were 36 present at the picnic, being, Mr. and Mrs. Ken neth Slotnower and . sonj, Glenn; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dun bar and family; Mr. and Mrs. ter Evelyn all of Lincoln. Mr, and Mrs. Merle Buell and fam ily of Syracuse; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Williams, Murdock; Mr. and Mrs. Faye Stolz and famiiy of Douglas; Mr. and Mrs. Guy Kimball ot Palmyra; and Mr. and Mrs. George Bornemeier and family, August Bornemeier and Mr. and Mrs. Willard Borne meier and family. The Ledgers enjoyed meeting could not have had time to drive and see the mall. They are en route to Michigan. Elmer Kappcrman Dies At Hillcrcst Home Elmer Kappcrman, 52, died Sunday at the Hillcrcst Nursing Home west of Plattsmouth. Death was caused by a heart condition. He was born in Thay er county and came to this city from that locality. He was son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kappcr man, the father preceeding him in death. He was engaged in working at the Home for the past five years. Burial was at Oak Cemetery at 11 o'clock Monday. The Caldwell-Linder Funeral Home was in charge. Pink Venner, Old Time Eagle Man, Dies At Lincoln Pink F. Venner, 81. for many years a resident of Eagle, died Thursday at his home, 6243 Bal lard in Lincoln. He was born in Indiana, com ing to Nebraska in 1882. He lo cated at Eagle where he engag ed in the hardware and grocery business for many years, closing out his interests there in 1925 when he moved to Waverly. IP; moved to Lincoln twenty-three years ago. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nannie, a year ago in June. He was a brother of Cobe S. Venner, former councilman at Lincoln and prominent civic leader in Lancaster County. Other survivors include neph ews, Robert C. Venner of Lincoln and Karl New of Salem Ore., and a niece, Mrs. Howard R. Smith of Somerstet, Mich. Funeral services were Fri day at Roper's in Lincoln with Rev. Merlin Dana officiating. Rachael Reicnwein was organ ist. Burial was at Wyuka Ceme tery with Ralph Judkins, Walt Hatten, Bud Hammond, Ralph Bucy, Don Daughterly, as pall bearers.
