Born to Mr. and Mrs. Emll Crowcll (Elaine Wolph) of Beat rice, a son, May 25, at Lincoln General Hospital. Mrs. Maurine Wolph of Lincoln is the grand mother. Mrs. Ruth Ketelhut of Hyannls, former Nehawka teacher, broke her leg last week. Rev. E. A. Weber of Lincoln was the speaker at commence ment exercises Thursday eve ning at the school. Betty True received the church scholarship and also a plaque and pin from the Jonatnan Cass chapter of the D. A. R. for her essay on citizen ship. Tom Meade won the ath letic award for the outstanding athlete. The school picnic was held Friday with a large attendance. Mrs. Elmer Stoil, Mrs. Floyd Joerger, Mrs. Gus Neumelster and Mrs. Sadie Shrader assist ed by Mrs. Hal Hansen and Miss Esther Barkhurst, set out canna bulbs and petunias and planted zinnias on parkings along the streets of Nehawka. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Joerger and Mr. and Mrs. Martin Ross went to Lincoln Sunday to decor ate graves and to visit several flower gardens. Friday morning James Trom bla, Yuma, Tex., stopped to visit his grandmother, Mrs. Oan Kunkel, enroute to Boston and then to New York City, where he will serve in the army. His grandfather, Charles Trombla, accompanied him and will visit relatives and friends in the east and then will fly back. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sand and daughter, Virginia, came Sat urday from Manhattan, Kans., and after spending several days with the F. O. Sands will go to Tuscon, Ariz., where Mr. Sand will work for the summer. They will return to Kansas in the fail and he will complete his school ing in veterinary medicine. Twenty-two children graduat ed from the kindergarten Tues day afternoon. The children wore white caps and capes. Miss Sue Kirkman played the "Happy Grand March" to open the program. There was the flag salute and the welcome was by Robert Wunderllch. Given by the class were "Our Work and Play in Kindergarten," "We Have Learn ed" and then the diplomas were given by their teacher, Mrs. El lis Lacy. They presented activity music and several songs. The recessional was "Good bye kin dergarten, hello first grade." Ushers were Null Balfour and Billy Mayfleld. Mrs. Evelyn Kruger was toast mistress at the 44th alumni ban quet held at the new school building Saturday evening. She introduced Kay Ward, vice pres ident, who led the Lord's Pray er. Mrs. Mildred Stones gave the welcome and the response was by Leonard Garrett, presi dent of the '57 class. The group singing was led by Mrs Ned Nutz- man, Mrs. Hal Hansen was ac companist. At the business meeting the following oiiicers were elected; Mrs. Bob Long, president; El mer Fitch, vice president; Rob ert Schlichtemeier, secretary; Alice Gregg Anderson, treasur er; Fred Lindsey, toastmastcr. Mrs. Harold Dodson served as acting secretary for the business meeting. Entertainment was kid games led by Mrs. Evelyn Kruger, as sisted by Elmer Stoil. Cass County Homemakers held a joint meeting with the other three 4-H Clubs this past week at the Nehawka School. Project materials and record books were distributed. Plans were made for the annual 4-H luncheon held at the home of Miss Evelyn Wolph, the 4-H leader, Monday. The vice-presidents of the four clubs, Bonnie Lacy, Margie Mil ler, Sharon Dodson and Mary Lou Briley, planned 'he program for the meeting following the luncheon. Those in charge of the food were Marilyn Pollard, Car oline Miller, Mary Lou Coster, Twila Hicks and Gladys Nixon. Refreshments were served by Miss Wolph. George McFadden went to Okarchee, Okla., Friday. Mrs. McFadden has been there a month assisting in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Krecklow and will return home with Mc Fadden. Mr. and Mrs. Haydn Owens and three sons were guests Sun day evening of Mr. and Mrs Ernest Kropp and Mrs. Sraah Kropp. The Owens were former Nehawka residents when he taught vocational ag here. They are moving from Talmage to Howells. Mrs. John W;est has been very ill the past week. Her condition is somewhat improved. Mrs. Jack Hines entered St. Mary's Hospital Sunday for sur gery. Weekend guests of the Vance Balfours were Mr. and Mrs. Arlo Wirth and Carl of Harting- ton. Other out of town dinner guests Sunday evening were Mr and Mrs. LeRoy Cook, Bill and Mary Margaret, Tekamah; Mr. and Mrs. Ted Hall, and Mariana, Elmwood. Guests who arrived Wednesday to spend a few days with the Balfours were Mr. and Mrs. John Owen, Cindy and Jer ri, Mrs. Pearl W. Gregory, Miss Francis Gregory, all of Kansas City, and Mrs. H. Deering of Phoenix, Ariz. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn McAfee and son, Paul of Fullerton, came Thursday for commencement ex ercises and were guests Thurs day and overnight at the Guy and Cecil Murdoch homes. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hron and Dorothy Moore of Omaha, and Marvin Edmonds left early Saturday morning for a trip to California. They will see the Grand Canyon and visit relatives at Rialto and Los Angeles, and at Torrington Wyo. At Torrino ton they will be guests of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Edmonds, Jr. and family. Mrs. Cecil Murdoch surprised Miss Bessie Murdoch with a birthday dinner Sunday. Guests were Miss Murdoch. Mrs. George Dickman took her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Little, Weeping Water, to Omaha Thursday where Mr. Littcl consulted an oculist. Nehawka Womans Club mem bers who attended the workshop in Auburn Tuesday were Mrs. George Dickman, Mrs. Gilbert Edmonds, Mrs. Harvey Bark hurst, Mrs. Ollie Atteberry and Mrs. Dwight Cook. Mr. and Mrs. Emit, CroweJl have named their son, Gary Lee. Miss Evelyn Wolph and Mrs. Myrtle Wolph attended the Pike Wachter wedding at Union Sun day. The Ilomemaking classes of the Nehawka High School clos ed the school year with a style show. The first year girls model ed skirts and blouses of the same pattern. The second year girls modeled dresses of differ ent style.". Teena Weston and Marsha Ross modeled dresses which their sisters had made for tliem. Jane Dietl, who is not in homemnk ing, modeled a dress which sh; had made at home. The program was concluded with a sons by all the girls.
