Rambling With Dapp Cass Countians tonight will be faced with a major decision: whether they want the county chapter of the American Red Cross to continue in business. ; Although no one seems to want to say it, the very life of the Chapter seems to hinge on the meeting which is to be held at 8 p. m. in the Coffee Cup Cafe, Avoca. Chapter officials in news re leases, have indicated the ses sion is to be for the purpose of electing new -officers and to plan an agenda for the coming year. - But it is an admitted fact the chapter now is lagging because it's leadership is withering. Long time leaders are dropping out feeling, and justly so, after long years of service the task should fall to other hands. . Although the Red Cross has its quota of "knockers" there's plenty of evidence, in me black and white of printed words, to attest to the organization's ef fectiveness during times of e mergency, disaster and catas trophe. And the Red Cross is on the job in smaller ways also. For example, during 1956 Cass Coun tians drew a quota of blood from the Red Cross blood bank which far exceeded the amount donated by. Cass County resi dents. At present, blood in the Red Cross blood bank is available to all county citizens. Collapse of he county chapter could mean the end of county participation in the blood bank. And that, in turn would mean countians in need of blood transfusions would of necessity, have to buy it, either through cash or by do nating the blood. ' Don't wait until time of e- mergency to think and then hol ler "Red Cross." This is your chance to repay past favors and get the jump on future ones by thinking "Red Cross" now. ".Haven't been able to tie "down any confirmation for this story, but as the tale goes, a small Plattsmouth iJboy, explaining a broken ' window to a policeman, said: P . I was cleaning my sling shot and it went off." One of the Journal's printers thinks he has a legitimate beef on a parking ticket he picked up recently. After going through the usual vocal gyrations ac companying receipt of a ticket. the lad found the ticket dated at 1:40 p. m. Feb. 17. That was a Sunday, he was in Seward, and the city does not issue parking tickets on Sundays. Persons in the fourth estate are always bothered by the bug aboo .of bad headline' writing. And what seems like an innoc uous little bit of head penning at the time can come back to hunt the writer as the whole town rOcks .off in laughter. Having committed our share of "funks" the writer is indebted to the Ne braska City News-Press head line which read: "Colorado pair found with arms." Wonder what the rest of Colorado's citizens use as replacements? The , Journal office staff got a chuckle and bang out of a post card received some time ago from a man attempting- to cancel a sub scription to the paper. He asked the paper to cancel the subscription of his wife who, he said, is now deceased and he has to pay three cents forwarding postage. Many and eastern "dude" has been the butt of a cowboy joke.
