Armstrong Tel. 1502 The Ashgrove H's 4-H Club heldd their achievement meet ing at the Peter Stander home Wednesday evening. After the business meeting they exhibited articles they had made during the club year, the boys had bird houses and bird feeders, the girls had bulletin boards, tea towels and dust cloth con tainers, which were ten cans they had painted, they also ex hibited trays they had decor ated. A no host lunch was ser ved, all five families of the club were present. Saturday afternoon the Fair land Midgets 4-H Club held their achievement meeting at the Pet er Stander home. The program consisted of demonstrations the girls will perform at the Cass County Fair. Kathleen Stander and Joanne Kellogg demonstrat ed making a sponge cake and Carol Stander and Ruth Kellogg demonstrated fitting a pattern. The girls also modeled their skirts and blouses in a style show that afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. John Groesser were guests. Mrs. Groesser is the county extension agent. The ir others of the girls were, present also one grandmother, Mrs. John Maack. A no host lunch was rerved that day. . The Rocket Tractor 4-H Club met Thursday evening- at the Paul Kupke home. During the business meeting it was decided not to have a float in the Cass County Fair parade but the boys will take part In the tractor rodeo. The lesson was on cut ters for crops. All members and one leader were present. Mrs. Kupke served lunch. Sunday afternoon the club boys held a practice at the Delbert Humston home. It was a preparation for those taking part in the tractor rodeo. Harold Francis Kellogg and Lynn Humiston will be tak ing part and Richard Moore and Edgar Jones may have a place in the rodeo. All members were present. Mrs. Humeston served them a lunch. Several members of the 4-H Calf Club will exhibit at the fair this week. Those with beef calves are Gwendolyn and Eu gene Wills and Larry and Les ter Roeber, those with dairy calves are, Douglas Williams, Evelyn, Marjorie and Edgar Roeber. The calves will be jud ged Wednesday and in the par ade, Thursday. Move To Elsie Home Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Jame son and Ray Charles of Elsie, arrived Monday for a few days visit at the Ray Bower home. That e v.e n i n g Mrs Ja meson attended a show er in Lincoln for Miss Pat Jones.On Wednesday, the Jame sons trucked Mr. and Mrs. Keith Pollards home furnishings to Elsie where they will make their home. Mr. Pollard will be the coach in the school at Elsie. Mrs. Helen Mueller is very ill at the Bryan Memorial Hos pital following her operation and no visitors are allowed, al- hough she is reported doing as well as is expected. ' Mr. and Mrs. Peter Stander, Kathleen, Carol, Charles and Mary Ann returned Monday rom a vacation trip to the Black Hills and a visit with relatives at Kimball. Harry Farmer and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Rau went to Fremont Monday eve ning to visit their cousins, Wen ona and Don Gilmore at the Dodge County Hospital who had been injured in a car accident near there. Mrs. Farmer's and Mrs. Rau's uncle, Hubert L. Gil more was instantly killed and Mrs. Gilmore critically injured in the same accident. Thursday the relatives from here went to Fremont- to attend the funeral for Mr. Gilmore at the Christain Church. . School will begin in District 58 in Cass County Tuesday, Aug uust 28. Mrs. Lewis Klanesky will be the teacher. Mr. and Mrs. Klanesky have recently moved to Ashland. Fifteen ladies of the Hi-Neighbor Extension Club went to Lin coln Thursday; They toured sev eral places of interest -which in cluded 'Dane son floral Shop, the Weaver Potato Chip factory and Miller and Fames Candy Kitchen. They enjoyed a dinner together. Mr. and Mrs. John Jones, John Earl, Carl and Tommy were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Long, Bobby Linda and Sally, celebrating Tommy Jones, birthday. Ice cream and cake were served in he afternoon. They also went fishing that afternoon. They visited Mr. and Mrs. Bert Rager Wednesday. Thursday, Mr. and Mrs. Parks and Mr. and Mrs. Rager attended a Parks family reunion picnic at Riverside Park in Omaha. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Parks and family came from Portland, Ore., to attend.. Mrs. Warren Robinson attended also. The Parks families were for mer South Ashland residents and grew up here. Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Backman, Marsha and Janie Mason took Cindy Bachman to her home at Council Bluffs Sunday. They spent the day at the C. W. Bry ant home. Mona Mason came home with them after a weeks visit at the Bryant home. Mr. and Mrs Fred Stickney and family and Mrs. Stickney's sister, the Misses Mary and Ethel Burnham of Lincoln went to Wayne Sunday where they attended a Burnham family re union. Earl Hale, who is chief clerk of the Open Door Mission in Omaha, is a house guest of Mr and Mrs. Wayne S warts this week. Mr. and Mrs. Don Sandy of York were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Nelson. They brought their slides of scenes taken during their trip to Colorado, Utah and Calif ornia and on Saturday evening a group gathered at the Nelson home to view - them. Mr. and Mrs. Duane Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Fosnot, Jim ahd Jen nifer of Lincoln and Mrs. Har old Richards were in the group Mr. and Mrs. Elton Erickson and family and Mr. and Mrs Beryl Keetle and family attend ed the Sidney, Iowa, rodeo Fri day. Church Croup Swim The CYF group of the Chris tian Church had an after swim party at the Lyle Bailey home Sunday evening. They played games, popped corn, made fudge and had a worship service a round a camp fire. Those in the group were Janice Nelson, Joyce Farmer and Martha Dean Bail ey, Allen and Larry Laughlin Roger and Ronnie Krohner, Bil and Bob Farmer, Jerry Camp bell and Richard Goings. Repair Farm Home Mr. and Mrs. Milton Bochman went to Mrs. Bochmans mother's Mrs. L. J., Walrodt, Sunday, where they were, joined by Mr. and Mrs. LaVern Urwin of Omaha and Mr., and Mrs. Glen Marolf of Greenwood and had dinner together. In the after noon. The men repaired the roof of the wash house which was blown off in a recent wind storm. Several trees were blown over at that time and other far mers in that neighborhood had damage of varying degrees. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Marolf were evening visitors with Mrs. Wal rodt and her guests. Mr. and Mrs. George Kraft of Manley were Wednesday eve ning visitors at the Carl Kupke home. Visit In Texas Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Wiles have returned from a two weeks trip through several southern states. They left home August 7, going through Kansas and Okla homa. In Tulsa they went through Will - Rogers Mem orial. At Taylor Texas they, at tended the Oral Roberts evan gelistic services, which is the largest tent meeting in the world. The tent seats 20,000 people. While in Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. Wiles were houseguests of Mr. and Mrs. Travis Broncum. They traveled through Louisiana and back up through Arkansas spend ing one night on top of Mount Mogazine, the highest point in that state. They went sight seeing in the Blue and Black mountains of Arkansas, and vis ited Pilots Knob in the Ozarks in Missouri. They returned home through Iowa. 1 Mr. and Mrs. Glen Fosnot, Jim and Jennifer of Lincoln and Ricky Ziegenbein of Crete spent last week at the Harold Rich ards home. Mr. and Mrs. Rich ards took their daughter, Mrs. James Murphy and little Joan Marie to Omaha Thursday where she boarded the plane for her home in Teaneck', N. J. Orville Sandy was a Wednesday evenng dinner guest of Mr. and Mrs. Richards and their house guest. Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Cofferty of Broadwater and their son, Ellis, of Gillette Wyo., came Thursday and visited until Mon day with Mrs. Cofferty's broth er Mr. and Mrs. Earl Mans field. Friday the group went to Blair to attend the funeral of Mrs. Samuel Cofferty of Bridge port. She was Mrs. A. B. Cof ferty's mother, who was 84 years old and had been ill the past two years. Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Mansfield and their guests went to Valley to visit a brother-in-law . Mr. .and -Mrs. Arthur Abraham. Mr. and Mrs. Orie Sowards, Marvin and JoAnne drove to Beatrice Sunday Mrs. Carl Wilson of Blair and Mrs. May Arnold of Caldwell, Idaho, were Thursday dinner guests, of Mrs. Margaret Leh man tid Wallace McClelland. Guests of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Keller; this past week were Mr. and Mrs Herbert Roberts, Susie and John Jay, of Omaha, Wed nesday evening, Mr. and Mrs Porter Sellin and family of Omaha and Mrs. W. A. Laugh lin of Ashland Saturday after noon and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Zink of Sioux City came for the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. John Abbott and Doris of Lincoln were dinner guests and supper guests of Mr and Mrs. Ashley Boiler, Eddie, Jesse and Loren helping Jesse celebrate his birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Roland Tinneaan and sons of Ureenwood were evening guests. Clayton Streich and Joe Stock were Sunday dinner guests of Bruce and Douglas Stock. Mr. and Mrs. Dan McBride and sons of Omaha were afternoon and lunch guests of Mr. and Mrs Stock and sons. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Morris and daughters of Omaha and Mrs. W. A. Jones were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Jones and family. sons, Ivan ana j-.ioyai came Thursday from Haven, Kans., for a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan E. Armstrong. The group spent Friday evening with Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Dean in Lincoln and Sunday afternoon with Mr. and Mrs. Roy Ever man in Wann, and their Sunday guests were Mr. and Mrs. Keith Everman, Deanna and Douglas o Lincoln. AEC Harold Shaw has been transferred from the Hutchinson Kansas base to Oceana, Virginia, and has re ported for duty there. Mrs. Shaw returned to Haven Monday to make preparations for shipping their furniture to Oceana. Ivan and Lloyal Shaw are with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Parrott spent Monday evening at the Ervin Schuelke home near Wav erly. , Mr. and Mrs. William Mason and family and Mr. and Mrs. Mrs. William Weaver and Dennis of Ashland, spent Tuesday eve ning with Mr. and Mrs Milton Bachman, Mrs. Margaret Leh man and Wallace McClelland were Thursday evening visitors there. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Barger and family of Springfield spent Wednesday afternoon with Mr., and Mrs. Arley Barger, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hartney were visitng there Thursday evenmg. Marilyn Kolb spent last week with her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Jerrie Barger, Jodie Martin of Lincoln was also a guest there and came home with Marilyn for a visit at the Kolb home. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Waughn of Valley visited with Mr. and Mrs. Earl Mansfield Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Lope ot Larch wood, Iowa, spent a part of last week with Mr. Lopes brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. John Lope. Mrs. Emma Jones was a Sun day guest of her grandson, Mr and Mrs. Wayne Bockman and family. Dr. and Mrs. W. E. Ziegen bein and Mark of Crete spent Sunday afternoon and had sup per with Mr. and Mrs. Harold Richards. Ricky returned home with his parents that evening. Mr. and Mrs. Milton Bockman had supper Friday with Mr and Mrs. Forrest Smith. Mr. and Mrs. George Harris and daughters were Saturday dinner and supper guests at the Arthur Laughlin home. Pamela Harris is staying with her aunt Mrs. Laughlin. Kathy and Cindy Bornmari of Omaha are with their grandpar ents, Mr. and Mrs. George Born man, this week. Mr. and Mrs. Arley Barger had Sunday dinner at the Wayne Barger home at Springfield. Kansas Trucker Stopped; Failed To Pay Fine A Kansas cattle trucker, Glen Eldon Rusche, of Senaca, was stopped at the weighing station north ofy the city with a load of fat cattle headed for the Omaha market., 1 Rusche, according to court records, was fined recently on an overload on axle charge. An agreement , was arranged where he was to mail a check to the court. Failing to do so, Rusche was picked up last week, with another load and was be ing held for the unpaid fine. The truck load of . cattle was taken to market later in the day. The fine and costs were paid into the court. Other cases in county court were: Jerry G. Stone, Omaha, over weight on plates, $24 and $4 costs. Allen Craig Becker, Council Bluffs, la., improper use of deal ers plates, $10 and $4 costs. Help In Church Work Several men from this neigh borhood met others at the new Christian Church parsonage in Ashland Saturday, to help with the carpenter work. Harry Far mer, Bill and Bob, Ivan Arm strong and Veryl Livers were those from this direction. There were fourteen men at work in the forenoon and seventeen in the afternoon. Dinner was ser ved by the ladies in the church ddining room at noon. Ray Everman and Ira Lehr camp from Wann to help with the work that day. The congregation is very grateful for all such help. Mr. and Mrs. Eli Gandreault entertained at their cabin at South Bend Friday evening. Their guests were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Arnold, Mr. and Mrs. Ken neth Anderson, Jim and Doro thy, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Mika and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. George Gade, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gade and Mr. and Mrs. Hageman. Sunday a birthday dinner was enjoyed at the Gaudreault cab in celebrating Gene Grimm's birthday. Those present were the Gene Grimm family and his mother Holly Grimm, also his sister, Mrs. Rudy Calopta and Mr. Calopta of Omaha, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Wiles and Terry, and Mr. and Mrs. Gaudreault. Mrs. Cecil Westfall of Greeley, Colo., is here helping out while her mothr is in the hospital. Rev. and Mrs. Hei mand fam ily left Monday morning for two weeks' vacation trip. Mr. J. A. Boyd and family had relatives visti them over the weekend from Iowa. Mrs. Earl Knop and Mrs. Jim Carson left Wednesday morning for Spokane, Wash., to meet their husbands and make the return trip to Nebraska with them, ine men have been working in Wash ington for a number of weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Verl Brunkow and daughter left Satday morn ing on a two weeks' vacation. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Neitzel are having their house painted which is making a much added improvement. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Neitzel have as their guests their daugh ter, Hazel and two daughters from Nebraska City. Mr. Herbert Klemme has ac cepted a position as assistant welfare worlcer in uougias coun ty. Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Heim are the proud owners of a new Ford. Glendale News Mrs. Tom Tennant Phone 4251 Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Johnson and Vicki attended the reunion of the family of Robertson's at Osceola.1 Edward Van Vleit accompan ied them. Others from this vi cinity attending were Mr. and Mrs. P. G. Hennings, Mr. and Mrs. Henery Gardener, Jr. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Sprieck and daughters left July 26 for a vacation in Florida. They stop ped at Norwood, Mo., to visit friends. They spent some time at the St. Louis zoo and other in teresting places, on to Smoky Mountain National Park .- and many interesting places up and down both east and west coasts. They arrived home Wednesday, August 15. They called at the L. A. Blair home at Homestead, Fla., and they report a wonder ful trip. Mrs. John Van Vleit, Edgar and Jim of Lincoln visited Tues day at the Elmer Johnson home. Mrs. M. K. Schroeder visited Sunday evening at the T. A. Tennant home. Other callers were Mrs. Melvin Reed, Rita, Dian and Mona. Mr. and Mrs. John Ritter at tended a family picnic at the Ed Guthrie home Sunday, hon oring Mrs. Ritter and her sister's birthday. Mrs. Minnie Pankonin and Mrs. Leola McKinstry and their daughters left Friday for Mich igan to visit relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Tlustos, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Tlustos and Bobbie, visited Sunday at the Harold Hlavcic home. Mr. and Mrs. Errett Wiles and Mr. and Mrs. Lester Tennant spent Tuesday in Omaha. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Parks and Linda of .Omaha visited Sunday evening at the Lester Tennant home. Wm. Moor gave his last ser mon at the Christian church Sunday as he goes to the sem inary in Kentucky, to finish his schooling. Chas. .McKensey will begin Sunday to fill the vacancy left by Mr. Moor. Edgar Van Vleit of Lincoln spent several days at the Elmer Johnson home.
