News of Nehawka and Area: H urt I Tractor By Mrs. F. O. Sand Tel. 2708 NEHAWKA (Special) Del bert Munn, 83, was taken to St. Marys hospital at Nebraska City Thursday morning. He suffered a broken hip in a tractor ac cident. Mr. Munn has a small tractor he rides to town. He got off to look at the motor and failed to put on the brake. The tractor ran over him breaking his hip. end guests of the Edmonds andi Mother's Day Dinner The WSCS of the Methodist Church entertained the faculty of the Nehawka school and Rev. and Mrs. Fred Gardner and Miss Evelyn Wolph at dinner Wednesday evening at the church. Mrs. John Chandler, youth chairman, was in charge and was assisted by Mrs. Har vey Bailer, Mrs. Jack Lindsey, Mrs. George Dickman and Mrs. Emma Nutzman. Jonquils were used in the decorations. Out Of Town Guests Out of town guests at the Ed-monds-Hron wedding Saturday were from Scribner, Hooper, Omaha, Union, Nebraska City, Plattsmouth, Lincoln, Milford, McCool Junction. Peru, Stella, Bellevue, Brock, Nebraska; Car son, Faragut, Menlo, Iowa and Denver, Colo, and Elmore Minn. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Dreiman, Jr., and children and Ed Dreiman, Sr., of Elmore, Minn, were week family joined them for dinner Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Edmiston, uncle and aunt of the bride, of Stillwater, Okla., call ed the bride and groom follow ing the wedding to congratulate them. Roy Akins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Matt Akins left Friday for Greenland where he wiill be employed. Sewing Unit Meets A sewing group spent Friday afternoon with Mrs. Fred Han sen. All attend ed the graduation exercises at Garland Wednesday evening when the Shrader's granddaugh ter, Charlene Mayfield, was a member of the class. They also called on Mrs. Louie Allgayer, Jr., and new .daughter, Karen Rae at Clarkson hospital in Omaha Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Banks and Larry had a close call Saturday afternoon when they were on their way to Omaha. As they were crossing the viaduct north of Plattsmouth a car swerved in front of them. There was a large rock in the highway and the driver of the other car swerved in order to avoid hit ting the rock. After the Banks drove off the viaduct Mr. Banks walked over the viaduct but the other car had driven away. The Banks car was damaged but the passengers were unhurt. Mr. and Mrs. Clark Bates were weekend guests of his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bates. They came for their son Roger who attended school here for several months and stayed part of the time with his grand parents. The Clark Bates fam ily moved Monday from Kear ney, to Julesburg, Colo, to make their home. Eastern Star Meet Mrs. Oren Pollard attended the Grand Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star at Lincoln Thursday. Mrs. Everrett White of Lincoln attended with her and Mrs. Pollard was an overnight guest of the Whites. The meet ings were held at the 4-H build ing at the fair grounds. The theme was roses and birds and decorations were in keeping with this. The installation of the new officers was held at night with a banquet. Mr. and Mrs. Qren Pollard were dinner guests Sunday eve ning of the Malcolm Pollards. A Mother's Day dinner Sun day at the home of Mrs. Jose phine St. John and Leonard in cluded Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Scharp and sons of Nebraska City, Mr. and Mrs. Merritt Pol lard, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Pol lard and sons, Mr. and Mrs. Oren Pollard and Mrs. Ruth B. Pollard, who is 95 years old. Miss Evelyn Wolph was taken to St. Mary's hospital at Ne braska City Sunday evening for a check up and treatment. ' Mr. and Mrs. Carl Dierking and daughter of Otoe were Sun day guests of the John Tysons. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hansen and daughters were dinner guests Sunday of the Harry Si monds of Nebraska City. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. Jos eph Clinch, Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Winkler and sons, Dun bar; Mrs. George Winkler and Gary. . Mr. and Mrs. Roy Chriswis ser attended the picnic at the rural school near Louisville taught by Mrs. Bud Chriswisser. The picnic was held Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Verner Lund berg and family of Omaha were weekend guests of Mrs. Ruth Lundberg. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Sand and family, Lincoln, were Sunday guests of his parents. The Methodist Sunday schoo. teachers met Tuesday evening with Mrs. Neil Pierce. Quilt Is Made For Nutzmans NEHAWKA (Special) Gold Star mothers and members were honored Tuesday at the American Legion Auxiliary meeting at the home of Mrs. Amerlia Balfour. Mrs. Frank Linder was the Gold Star moth er and Mrs. Oren Pollard, the Gold Star member honored. Mrs. Martin Ross was the chair man of this part of the program. Mrs. Harold Pollard gave a Poppy Day program. Fifteen ladies spent the day quilting. The quilt was pieced by Mrs. Frank Linder and Mrs. Frank Marler. It is a beautiful green and white design and was made and quilted for Mrs. Deane Nutzman who lost many articles in the fire at her home last winter. The next meeting will be June 12 at the auditorium with Mrs. Hildur Lundberg, Mrs. Ruth Lundberg and Mrs. Harold Dod son as hostesses. Visit Dale Home The John Eaton family spent Saturday at the John Dale home in Omaha. Janice Dale returned with them and her parents came for her Sunday. Nehawka Girl Scouts Are Guests Of Club NEHAWKA (Special) The Nehawka Girl Scouts were guests Thursday evening of the Junior Women's Club at the home of Mrs. Bob Wunderlich. The girls showed their boons they made and told of the Scout wTork. The Scouts are sponsored by the club. The Brownie work was also displayed. Mrs. Jack Lindsey, Brownie leader pre sented the girls. Mrs. Victor Ross and Mrs. Deane Nutzman reported on the state convention. A donation was made to the cancer fund and $20 was donat ed to a fund for a trip to the National FHA Convention in Chicago which will be attended by Mrs. Ray Ehlers and her daughter, Sharon. Mrs. Victor Ross presided. Co hostesses were Mrs. Thurmond Nixon, Mrs. Lawrence Gregg, Mrs. Dugan Gregg, Mrs. Julian Johnson. Mrs. Larry Pollard and Bruce are spending two weeks with Mr. and Mrs. George Pollard and with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Brunkow of Lincoln while her husband is attending school in Chicago and taking courses to assist him in his work for Western Electric. Friday evening Mr. and Mrs. Kent Balfour and family were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Marius Petersen of Syracuse to observe Mr. Petersen's birthday.
