News From Eagle rHE PLATTSMOUTH, NEBRASKA, SEMI-WEEKLY JOURNAL Thursday, March 22, 1956 Section B PAGE ONE - TU1 ITl coi Aiuite veirsomi's- Have Two :-II dh jj ui ir e d eiml!:: By Mrs. John Fischer Journal Correspondent EAGLE (Special) Mr. and Mrs. John Halvorsen and Mr Halvorsen's brother, Earle and elderly mother, Mrs. Augusta Halvorsen of Palmyra; went to Osceola, Iowa, last Monday to see Mr. and Mrs. George Hal vorsen and family. Enroute they encountered snow and ice, resulting in an accident. m Mrs. Augusta Halvorsen was injured quite painfully 'with broken ribs and shock. She is an arthritic, and such a jolt added complications. Earl Halvorsen's nose was also injured in the crash. Grandmother Halvorsen was taken to the Osceola hospital and will return via ambulance the last of this week. The guests remained overnight at the George Halvorsen home. They report Mrs. George Hal vorsen's illness in not showing any encouraging improvement. Attend Wedding Mrs. Jess Westlake attended the wedding ceremony of Miss Pearl Schultz at Weeping Water Methodist Church Saturday eve ning. Mrs. Westlake remained overnite at the home of her sis ter, Mrs. Matilda Markland, re turning home Sunday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Adams of Eagle and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Bueknell of Elmwood went to Nebraska City. Sunday and were dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Buck nell's son, Mr. and Mrs. Cloyi Bueknell family. Several Eagle folks attended the dinner at the masonic tem ple at Elmwood Friday evening and returned to Eagle for the basketball and volleyball games at the schoolhouse. Miss Laverne Strodley and Mr Joe Karr of Lincoln visited at the home of Mrs. Cassie Adams Sunday. They also visited a t Mrs. Adam's son and family, the Melvin Adams during the eve ning. Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Anderson attended the funeral services for Mr. Carl Bevan at Muscotah, Kansas, Sunday. Mr. Bevan was an employee of the Continental Grain Co. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Krumm and family, Ed Eley, Mr. and Mrs. Archie Hardnock of Lin coln and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Meyer and son of Palmyra spent Sunday at the home of. Mrs. Irvin Stall and Mona Sunday honoring the birthday of Mrs. Stall. Mr. and Mrs. Ira Stall vis ited at the home of his mother Saturday evening. Her daughter Doris (Mrs.- Eley) was unable to be present having undergone surgery the previous week. She is recovering satisfactorily. N. Phillips. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Scatter good and Edward Porter re ceived work of the death of their cousin, Mr. Oscar Miller at Belvldere, Saturday. Funeral services were held Tuesday aft ernoon. Mr. and Mrs. scatter- good, Mrs. Porter, and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Piersol of Walton attended the services at Belvi- dere Church. Mrs. LaVelle Swarts returned home after spending several days last week at Derby, Colo., with her parents. Miss Lillie Muenchau of Plattsmouth was a visitor in Eagle at the homes of her broth ers, Fred and Bert Muenchau last weekend. Miss Muenchau is employed at the Masonic Home for the aged. at Plattsmouth. More Honors Are Taken by Sharon Ramge Sharon Ramge, the Platts mouth high school senior elect ed as state secretary of t h e Future Homemakers of America last weekend, was also selected as a delegate to the national convention. The national affair will ' be held July 2nd to the 6th at the Conrad Hilton Hotel, Chicago. The theme of the national con vention will be "You, in t h c home, in the chapter, in the school and in the community." Miss Ramge is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. MaynaT.i Ramge. - DO IT YOURSELF and pocket the savings appeared to be the motto of the Plattsmouth adult homemaking class who sewed up these clothes and modeled them in a style show at the high school auditorium last week. Erskine, Jr., enter tained three freshmen from Ne braska Wesleyan University at heir home last Sunday. The guests were Miss Pat Eck- berg of Grant, Jim Booker of Republican City and Gary Jen sen of Grand Island. The freshmen conducted worship services at the Metho dist church Sunday. Under wood went to Omaha last Sun day and visited at both the homes of Mr. Underwood's half- brothers, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Rinck and Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Rinck and family during the day and evening. Mr. Voyle Wall of Iowa and brother-in-law, Paul Chidester of Lincoln, called on friends and former neighbors at Eagle last Friday, having purchased some alfalfa. Mr. Wall also visited his brother, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Wall, on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Billy Ketelhut of near Walton, Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Morton and Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Schwenker were dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. O. G. Underwood Monday evening, honoring the birthday of Mrs. Ketelhut. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Moore and daughter Sharon, of Weeping Water visited their daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bogenrief and family on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Vickers of Alvo visited at Mr. Vicker's sis ter's home, the Orin Lannings, Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Reuter and son, David of Lincoln, spent Sunday, at the home of Mrs. Reuter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Al Ballance. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Hite.of Ashland visited at the home of Mrs. Hites parents, Mr. and Mrs C. O. Wright, Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Scatter good went to Ruskin last Sun day to visit their daughter and family, the Eldon Sorensen's and attended a 40th wedding an niversary family dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fritz Sorensen's home. They also vis ited at the home of Rev. and Mrs. Wm. Doran and family at Hardy. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Ossenkop and daughter Vicki, Walton, vis ited at Mr. Ossenkop's sister's home Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Bunten of Lincoln, called at the Orin Lanning home Sunday evening. Eagle Red Cross Drive on The Red Cross contributions are being urgently stressed. Mrs Clinton Westlake is the chair man of Eagle and surrounding territory within Cass county. Eagle The Eagle Kensington met at Mrs. Doyle Gump's home, Wed nesday afternoon. Mrs. H. D. Fischer was to have been host ess but was called to the bed side of her seriously ill sister, in Aurora, Ore., last Wednes day. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Caddy and parent? Mr. and Mrs. Jess Holka of Alvo, went to Ray mond Saturday to spend the day at the home of the latter's son, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Holka and family, near Raymond. Karen and Alan Holka returned home with them and spent the week end with the grandparents. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Kirchhoff and family of near Cheney, call ed at the home of Mr. Kirch hoff 's brother, Mr. and Mrs Herman Kirchhoff, Sunday aft ernoon. The Senior class play will be oiierea at the Eagle school house March 23rd, 8 p.m. Dr. and Mrs. Hubert Stewart and family of Pawnee City were Lincoln visitors last Wednesday and stopped enroute home a t the home of Dr. Stewart's moth er, Mrs. Hallie Stewart. Mrs. Hallie Stewart was host ess for the "O" street Home makers project club members at her home Tuesday afternoon. On Tuesday evening the Ea gle extension club members met at the home of Mrs. Howard Root. Clark Gable Stars in Soldier of Fortune Clark Gable goes into two fisted action as a hi-jacking "Soldier of Fortune" in his Cinemascope debut scheduled for Sun, Monday and Tuesday at the Cass Theater. Chamber Plans for Homemakers' Day The women's division of the Chamber of Commerce wishes to announce the near completion of programing for Homemaker's day, April 17. The anticipated at tendance is approximately 600, Response from several wom en's organizations in regard to their reservations have already been received. All extension clubs interested in obtaining reservations must notify the chamber office by April 11. January exports were 9 per cent above year-ago level.
