Retail Prices Mrs. L. G. Todd Phone 2441 Seventeen At Union Woman's Society Meeting Thursday The Woman's Society of Christian Service met with Mrs. Earl Upton last Thursday aft ernoon, Oct. 8th. Seventeen members were in attendance. The devotionals were led by Mrs. Todd. Her topic, "Scatter the Good Seed". Her Scripture les son was the 100th Psalm. After much discussion, the date for the fall dinner and supper was decided to be the 5th of No vember. Mrs. Attebery reviewed the first chapter of the study book, entitled "Spanish Speak ing Americans in the U. S. With in Our Borders". A gift from the Society was presented to Mrs. Neva Upton by the Society president, Mrs. Valda Attebery. Mrs. Upton very graciously re ceived the gift, with a few words expressing her regret to have to be leaving soon. Mrs. Earl Up ton, the hostess, served a very fine lunch and the ladies thank ed their hostess for a fine aft ernoon spent in her beautiful country home. Union Mrs. Mina Upton, Mrs. Jsese Dysart - and Mrs. . Elsie Frans drove to Bern, Kans., last Sun- I day, where they visited Mrs. J Myrna Frieburg, a sister of Mrs. Upton. Mrs. Andy Garfield and ba by, Karen, returned from St. Mary's hospital last Sunday. The two Garfield boys think it's pretty fine to have a baby sis ter in their home, also to have mother home again. Union Mrs. Rieke Is Union i Woman's Club Hostess Tuesday Mrs. George Rieke was hostess to the ladies of the union Wom an's Club last Tuesday after noon, Oct. 6th. Twenty-one members responded to the "Sur prise" roll call. Devotionals were led bv Mrs. Lee Faris. Mrs. How ard Snodgrass was appointed as J delegate to attend the county convention. A '-Going Away Gift" was presented to Mrs. Mina Upton. The new year books were given out. Mrs. Carol Ann Pike gave a very nice report of her attendance at Girls' State at Lincoln last June. The hos tess served her guests a very de licious lunch at the close of the afternoon's program. But be fore the guests departed, Mrs. Rieke was asked to show them the beautiful new home they have recently built, which she 1 did in her most gracious hospi tality. The ladies were very happy to meet Mrs. Rieke's mother, Mrs. John Faris, who was able to be around again after suffering a long time from a broken hip. Union Fellowship Supper Well Attended There was a fine attendance at the Fellowship supper at the Methodist church last Sunday evening. When all had arrived, the fifty guests unpacked well filled baskets and soon nad a bounteous repast ready to enjoy. In this task the primary depart ment boys and girls helped ar range chairs and were "on the job" aU through the evening. When supper was over, there were "piles of dishes" to be washed and put away. Again I the girls waded in and soon had I everything done. Chairs were I arranged for the guests to en j joy pictures which Frank And j erson had taken during the sum ' mer while the Andersons vaca tioned for two weeks in western ! Nebraska and the Bad Lands. Everyone felt it had been a fine ( evening of fellowship in" every , respect. - I Union Mr. and Mrs. Harry Storm and son of Yutan and Mrs. Mary i Rogers were Sunday dinner ' guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis ! Rogers and family. Afternoon callers at the Rogers home were Mr. and Mrs.-1: E.- Armstrong of Ashland. Buffet Supper Honors Ohioans A buffet supper was- held Thursday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clark Finney honoring Mr. and Mrs. Bill Burke of Elyreia, Ohio. Others present were Mr. and Mrs. O. W. Finney, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rebal, Dr. and Mrs. R. F. Rebal of Omaha, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Alkire, Mrs. Jimmie Al kire and the hosts. Twenty At Aid Society Meeting The Helping Hand-Aid Society met on Thursday afternoon, September 1, at the home of Mrs, Sam Hughes. Twenty mem bers were present .and four guests, Mrs. .Clara Pederson, Mrs. Lester Hoback, Mrs. Clar ence Norris and Mrs. Leonard Doty. The ladies enjoyed a pleasant afternoon. The hostess served a delicious lunch. , The next meeting will be No vember 5 at the home of Mrs. John Norris. Weeping Water Mrs. Charles Everett and her daughter, Miss Dorothy Everett of Phoenix, Arizona left last Sunday for a vacation by car. They will travel east and wTill stop enroute to .visit Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Everett and family at Jacksonville, N. C. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Baty or Memphis, Tenn., and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Jacobsen of Los Ala mos, N. M., were Monday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Hene ger. Mr. Baty and Mrs. Jacob sen and the Henegers were for mer Sunny Hill neighbors. Weeping Water Friendly Neighbors Club Meets Thursday The Friendly Neighbor club met at the home of Mrs. Donald Wiles on Thursday afternoon, Oct. 1, with twelve members present. Roll Call was answered by a guessing game of household gadgets and recipes. After the regular ousiness meeting Miss Barbara Wiles showed moving pictures of film she had taken on her vacation trip. These films were enjoyed very much. Mrs. Wiles served a tasty lunch. The next meeting will be on November 5 at the home of j Mrs. Kenneth Wiles. Election of officers will be held at this meeting. Weeping Water Mr. and Mrs. Dan Sudduth and Mrs. Nile Yarnell of Lin coln were in Weeping Water Mrs. J. M. Ranney and Lloyd Ranney visited Miss Margaret Ranney in the University hos pital. Miss Ranney is taking tests and radium treatments for a goiter. ' Mr. and Mrs. Orville Berneck er and family moved to Lincoln this week where, by transfer, Mr. Bernecker will have a similar job with the Cass County Soil Conservation district. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Heneger, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Doty and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Heneger were Wednesday evening dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Dietz and family. This dinner was in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Heneger of Corpus Christi, Texas. Weeping Water Officers Elected By Better Best Extension Club The Better Best Extension club met at the home of Mrs. Lee Stratton on Wednesday, Oct. 7, with Mrs. Herbert Rohr danz as the co-hostess. Nine members and two guests, Mrs. Ed Freeman and Mrs. John Day, were present. These two ladies became members that day and Mrs. rrea-wara and Mrs. iierD Peterson also became members later. Another member was Mrs. rLeona Cleland. Mrs. J. E. Renner presented the lesson on "Machine Mend ing". Election of officers was held with the following being elect ed: President, Mrs. Ethel Her mann; vice-president. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Heier at tended a Johnson reunion at Antlope Park Sunday. Mr. Dan Rosenow from Oma ha is visiting his brother Charles and other relatives around Al vo. Mrs. Frank Taylor from Lin coln spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. 'Ellis Mickel and Lloyd. Mr. Lloyd Schulke and Ralph Winn attended a show in Lin coln Saturday night. . . . Mrs. Geo. McKay and Mrs. Carl . Sutton drove to Plymouth Thursday to deliver one of Mr. McKay's Hampshire hogs. Mrs. Ella Rosenow had as her Friday night supper guests Mr. Dan Rosenow from Omaha and Charles Rosenow. Saturday night they were supper guests of Mrs. Esther Clark and boys, Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Karl Rosenow. Mr. Clarence Menke from Lincoln spent the week end with his brother-in-law and sister and family, the John Weichels. .Mrs. Kelley, who has spent several days visiting her broth er and family at Murdock, came back to the home of her broth er and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Brunkow, Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Heier and Mr. and Mrs. Emil Rieke called on the Ed Schulke family in Havelock Thursday evening. Their son, Bruce, and wife were spending their furlough at the Schuelke home. Alvo WSCS Meets At Church Wednesday The WSCS met in the church basement Wednesday afternoon with a large crowd in attend ance. Mrs. Mabelle Elliott had charge of the worship service. The program was in charge of Meryl Tiber and Marie Farwell. Hostesses were Ruth Timblin, Rosemary Gardner, Maurine Wymore and Mrs. Fairfield. Roger Bickford left Weep ing Water Monday for Travis, AFB, Calif., to receive his dis charge from the Air Force. Sgt. and Mrs. Bickford and Lorri ar rived in Weeping Water to spend a furlough.
