She had called at the Bryan hospital ' that afternoon to see her sister-in-law, Mrs. Fred Muenchau. She also saw Mrs. Douglas who is slowly im proving. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Oehler king returned from a trip to Elsie, Nebraska, on Wednesday of last week. They had driven there to take Miss Barbara Nel .ccn to her home for her vaca tion. Miss Nelson had been vis iting Miss Lavina Oehlerking, both girls being student nurses at Bryan hospital. Sunday guests at the Melvin Miller home were their son Charles and his wife Esther of Syracuse. With them was Lar ry Miller and his brother and sister from York. The latter al so visited their other grandpar ents, the McBrides. Mrs. Gerald Reber and her daughter, Miss Devee, have re turned from a Colorado vaca tion. A family reunion of the San ford Cements family was re cently held here. Johnny Hayes of Lincoln, a former Llmv.ood bey, is one who is in Korea for the final return cf soldiers, or for further dutv. Rev. N. F. Horn was in Colo rado last week where he went to preach for the funeral service of a friend. Community Kensington will have the August meeting a week sooner on account of the coun ty fair. So it will be held on August 20 at the home of Lucy Stege. Suot. Johnston, as well as Miss Phyllis Rudolph received a de gree at the close of Nebraska University summer session. Mr. Johnston received master of ed ucation and Miss Rudolph bach elor of education degrees. Mr. rind Mrs. Orval Miller and Miss Janice and Chuck Backe meyer are having a vacation in the Black Hills and they will ree ether places of interest also. Lewis Hollenbeck is helping at the Farmers Elevator this week white Oris Richert is attending the reserve camp on the Great Lakes in Wisconsin. P.cv. Godbey, nusband of our school principal, is welcomed home by his family at this time. On Sunday he gave a talk at the mornim; service at the Method ist church, telling of his twen ty months of service as person nel manager for U. S. construc tion work at air bases in Mor occo near Casa Blanca, North Africa. His son, John, preach ed for him there that day. He says there are more Arabs in hi 3 region there than any other natives. Mr. Godvey speaks French in a usable way. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Oehler king, Lila and Junior have re turned from a week's trip .to Denver and other mountain p'aces. On their return Miss Lila went to Bassett where she was bridesmaid at the wedding of a friend. Lila will teach again in the third grade at Bellevue next year. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Roberts (Violet Horenbeck) and son, Stanley of Nchawka are on a motor trip to Presque Isle, Maine, where they went to bring Mrs. Cecil IJollenbeck and three children to their Omaha hor Mrs. Hcl'enbeck's parents live in the Maine town. i Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Hereth I and three children have moved I to a farm two miles south of I town. Sunday the birthday of Mrs. R. M. Dennis was celebrated at tsi hnrn of v.or son Wp'nton and family. There were 30 rela tives pre-sent. Rev. and Mrs. Kampman and daughter Mernie have returned from their vacation. The last week in July Mr. Kampman at tended as a committee member a conference on evangelism. The family remained to visit rela tives in that state for another week. The E. U. B. Sunday school picnic was held on Friday, Aug. 7 at Steinhart park in Nebras ka City. There was a noon din ner, also swimming and other attractive sports for the young folks and children. Immanuel church people were in the picnic party also. Mrs. Raymond Vogt reports that her sister, Barbara, is tak ing nurses training at Bryan hospital. The youngest sister, Rosemary Stevens, is working as a telegraph operator at Chad ron. Mrs. Helen Schneider drove to Cambridge on Sunday, taking the twins, Janet and Janice Reeder to their home. Mrs. Mary Williams went along also. On Saturday evening the Ma sons and Eastern Stars gave a dinner honoring Dr. Totman and family before he leaves for Comp Kilmer in New Jersey. Sunday guests of Miss Minnie Kunz and other relatives were Mr. and Mrs. James Fleischman and Karen, Miss Dorothy Fleischman and Harold Wil liams, ail of Tekamah. Mrs. Jieca and family have moved into the house recently vacated by the Vincent Phillips family. Chas.
