It will be a good opportunity to learn first-hand what local promoters can expect from this organization that has promoted similar observances from coast to coast. Few persons in this commu nity realize the great gift of publicity and good will that is being bestowed upon Platts mouth this week with the gath ering of the Anniial Convention of Masonic Home Superintend ents and executives at the beautiful Nebraska Masonic Home at the northeast edge of the city. With every state in the Union represented with the exception of Florida, guests and delegates are highly impressed with this new build ing program recently completed and the accommodations avail able. Great praise has been be stowed upon Supt. Wm. F. Evers, nis aDie assistant and son, Ray mond, and to Ray Cook, rene gade Platter and chairman of the building committee. Cook, now Grand Custodian of the Grand Lodge and located at Omaha, who we all know never lacks for words in ex pressing himself, was stupefied Tuesday evening at the opening banquet in the beautiful de signed and decorated dining room, when informing this writer that "There's no vocabu lary adenuate to express my in ward feelings in having a dream of many years come true and living to see it." We can ap preciate those thoughts as we got even with Ray by partaking of an elaborate dinner of baked spring chicken, mashed pota toes swimming in giblet gravy, salads, hot rolls garnished with butter and jelly, and olives, and pickles, and celery, and carrots, etc., etc., while por' ol' Cook was trying to keep body and soul together on a bowl of cottage cheese, a couple of hard boiled eggs, and a cud of tea-bag tea. It was a little hard on our ner vous stomach, but we're getting over it. We've been under the impres sion for many years that bar bers couldn't do anything but tell stories, some, good for a laugh. But a couple here on Main Street, George Thun and Leo Osterholm, temporarily out of customers Tuesday after noon, grabbed brush, squeegee and a bucket of water and to our amazement we discovered them washing the windows of The Journal. It couldn't be anything else but a prank as we scrub them off a couple times a year whether they need it or not. We do wish, however, they had taken them one at a time as the light for these past two days has been hurting our eyes. - Old assembly room, with out- ' dated stage and balcony' is a thing of the past at fiatts mouth's high school building. Former students of PHS would v-n omTPH at t.hp tmnsfnrmnt.ion that has taken place here since . carpenters started work a couple of weeks ago. New class rooms are being constructed in spaces formerly occupied by sta;e and library, with the latter being moved into more spacious quar ters in the assembly room, where additional classrooms are being installed. Comes September 1st and this city can point to th. most progressive school im " provement program in four & states. Due to a change in mail serv ices in and out of Plattsmouth, it has been necessary for The Journal to rearrange deadlines for copy arriving at this office. Readers, perhaps, have been re sentful of the fact that some news stories have been forced to await later editions due to late arrival of copy. The Journal must hit the press in this office not later than two o'clock on publication date in order to be distributed to readers on time. All news copy must be in this of fice as early as nossible. " We try our best at the impos sible trying to please every body, but in spite of additional equipment, printers and ma chine operators, it is utterly im nossible to comoose a paper of The Journal's size in a matter of a few hours. Circulation of The Journal exceeds far above the 3000 mark. Two or three sections of this size newspaner together with mailing takes time. It's a "fight the- clock" proposition in this business from week-to-weck. You can be a big help by getting copy to us early we just 'cannot guaran tee publication of news items that arrive in this ofice on date of publication, although we'll do our best.
