Minutes of the last meeting were read by Secretary Mildred Trumble and approved. The treasurer, Minnie Bird, gave her report which was also approved. Chaplain Elsie Althouse gave a prayer which was followed by the flag salute and preamble. The legislative chairman gave her report and the group sang "America." ' ' Following an organ selection by Dorothy Davis, a report from the card and flower chairman, Carrie Schmidt, was heard. M.: H.l W'i Monday, August 18, 1952 Legion Recently 0f Evelyn Ronsford and second ed bv Arlene Frohlich to sub scribe to the Legislative Bulle tin. They also approved a mo tion to pay Arlene Frohlich's expenses to the state conven tion. On a motion by Hallie Stew art, seconded by Florence Trum ble, the group voted $1 for cards and postage. Members also voted to buy paint for the kitchen cabinet and table, and oil cloth for the table. Legionnaires joined the group for lunch with Bertha Caddy and Dorothy Davis as hostesses. The next meeting will be held September 8 with Arlene Froh lich and Lerma Doeden as host esses. AvOCcl Pl'iVcltG Graduates From Repair School Pvt. Richard E. Wilson, whose wife. Ruby, lives in AvocNeb., recently graduated from the general utilites repair course of the Army Engineer Specialist School, Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. The five-week course, design ed to prepare him as a mainte nance and repair man for build ings and other military post fa cilities, included classes in car pentry, plumbing, painting, ma sonry, electrical and sheet-metal work. Private Wilson, who entered the Army last February, is serv ing in Company B of the 52nd Armored Engineer Battalion, 6th Armored Division. Wilson, who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. -Edward L. Wilson, also of Avoca, worked as a farmer before he entered the Army. Mr. and Mrs. Herman "Dall of Maniey were here Friday to look after some trading. Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Hucke of Kansas City, Mo., spent the week end at the H. R. Johnston home. O. Sand of Nehawka. Miss Sand was elected to rep resent Nehawka in competition for the county title last week. A "raduate of Nehawka hiph school. Miss Sand has been es pecially active in 4-H work. Her exhibits in a variety of home making projects have won her many honors at the Cass county Fair in the past, as well as at the State Fair. The County Fair Queen will be crowned at ceremonies to be held Wednesday night, August 20. Ninety-Four At Engelkeniier Family Reunion Sunday Members of the Engelkemier family gathered at Christ Luth eran church on the Platts-mouth-Louisville road on Sun day. August 17, to celebrate the second annual reunion. Ninety-four members attend ed the reunion. Charles Engel kemier of Louisville was the oldest member present. He is 85. Capturing the youngest prize was Joyce Anna, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Puis. Members elected Glen Kraeeer as president for the coming year. Roy Engelkemier was named secretary-treasurer. Following the picnic dinner, family members spent the after noon visiting, singing and play ing games. Journal Want Ads Pay! ill! Auxiliary Plans Float For Korn Karnival V. F. W. Auxiliary met at the new V. F. W. clubrooms on South Sixth street Thursday i evening. Mrs. Deloma Kaffen- berger conducted the business meeting. Reports were given by com mittee chairman, and Kutn Southworth read an article on legislation which was of par ticular interest to members. The year book committee re ported that the year books will be ready for the September meeting. Plans were discussed for improvements on the kitch en and also for drapes for the lounge of the new building. Maxine Bowman and Lucille McNulty were appointed as committee to purchase the new drapes. Plans for a float in the King Korn Karnival were also dis cussed. Members also learned that the bake sale held recently was a success. Several members, it was learned, are hespitalized. The meetin closed with the retiring of the colors. Hostesses serving refresh ments were Charlotte Gall, Jose phine Strough, Ora Manners, Nettie Ruse, Mary Adkins, Flos- ' sie Redd and Louise Swain. Perry of Omaha are parents of an eight pound baby girl, Sandra Lynne, born August 16th at St. Catherine's hospital. Spangler Reunion Is Weeping Water Event August 10 Members of the family of the late Charles and Elizabeth Spangler, met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus Livingston, youngest daughter of the late. Mr. and. Mrs. Spangler, near Weeping Water on Sundav. Aug ust 10. Five of the six living children, cf a family of 12, attended the reunion. At the dinner in addi tion to Mrs. Livingston were Mrs. Elizabeth Hites. of Hast ings, Iowa, Fred Spangler. Phil ip Snanpler of Lincoln cmd Charlie of Calloway. Eighty seven members of the family were at the reunion. Picnic tables were placed in the yard and. members brought baskets of food for the dinner. Younger family members, es pecially the boys, played ball while the elder group visited. Ice cream and cake was serv ed during the afternoon. Miss Staats Will Winter In Ohio Miss Pearl Staats departed Friday evening for Seattle, Washington where she will vis it for two weeks with a brother before going to Columbus. Ohio, where she plans to spend the winter with relatives and friends. Mrs. Floyd Fulton entered Clarkson hospital for observa tion and treatment Friday morning. She will remain at Richard Reading. The flower girl was Lindif MacVicker from Garden Grove. The candlelight- ers were Ralph d'Arge and ! George Stanley. Jr. i Jerry O'Haver, well-known tenor sang "I Love Thee", and "Because" and also the "Lord's I Prayer" during ' the ceremony. Martha Farr played the nrelude j and the beautiful Lohengrin j Wedding march. i A reception for one hundred fifty close friends and relatives was held at the rancho home of TVTr nr.H TNfrc rl'Artro Mr. and Mrs. d'Arge. Mr. and Mrs. Marshall will live in Burbank where Mrs. Marshall is teaching in Burbank schools. Mr. Marshall is em ployed at Lockheed Aircraft. The Marshall family formerly resided at Plattsmouth. ! Pvt. Win. Sheehan With 7th Infantry i Division In Korea Pvt. William R. Sheehan. son ! of Mr- and Mrs- Mike v- Snee nan, ot Weeping Water, is now serving with the 7th Infantry Division on the west-central front in North Korea. Patrols from the 7th are bat tling the Reds in the strategic Iron Triangle sector near Khum wha, while tank and artillery guns pound at deeply-entrenched enemy fortifications. Private Sheehan is a rifleman in Company F. of the 31st In fantry Regiment. He entered the A. my in January 1951. Mary Murphy Is Crowned "Mss Weeping Water" Miss Mary Murphy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Murphy, who reside between Weeping Water and Louisville, was nam ed Miss Weeping Water at a dance and reception for 16 Queen candidates Thursday night. The Weeping Water beauty will compete for the title of Cass County' Queen during county Fair activities at Weeping Wat er this week. Attendants to Miss Murphy will be Ginger Philpot. grand daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Philpot of Plattsmouth. and Joan Sheehan. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Sheehan of Weep ing Water. Miss Murphy's selection was made from the 16 candidates by three judges, including Dave Hallstrom of Nebraska City, who also acted as master of cere monies. An estimated 100 persons at tended the dance at which the Queen candidates were in formal attire. Activities were held at the Agricultural auditorium. Dallis Wendt was program chairman. Granddaughter Is Named Queen Barbara Gunnoe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Ray Gunnoe of Charleston, W. Va., was crowned queen of CIO, local glass workers at the group's an nual picnic. The 2V2 year old lass was selected from contest ants 2 to 6 years of age. Barbara is the granddaugh ter of Mrs. Ida Cadwell of Plattsmouth and niece of Mrs. Don Warga and Mrs. DeForrest Perry. 'v Games, Visiting Feature Meisinger Family Reunion On the spacious lawn of the country home of Mr., and Mrs. Bernard Meisinger was held the family reunion of the late John Michael Meisinger on Sunday, August 17th. Due to the inclem ent weather some were unable to attend. After the delicious basket din ner which was brought by ev eryone pictures of last year's reunion, Minnesota and Colo rado were shown by Raymond Haith. The rest of the after noon was spent by playing games and visiting. Toward evening ice cream and cake were served and all returned home. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. John Parkening and Cath erine; Michael Hild, Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Meisinger, Leland and Frederick, Miss Beverly Sutton, Mrs. Wayne Meisinger.
