Wiping "VTatf-r Returns From Long European Cruise Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Philpot have received word that their grandson. Marvin, has arrived at his home in Garden City, Kan., after several months cruising in European waters. Before returning to the U. S. naval academy at Annapolis, Md.. Marvin will accompany his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Philpot to California where he will visit with his maternal grandparents for the first time in three years. Mrs. E. W. LaRue is assisting Stanley Wood with the Weeping Water Transfer monthly posting of bills this week. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh T. Hanlan and Mrs. Carl E. Day .drove to Plattsmouth on Wednesday of this week. The Weeping Water Commu nity Club met Thursday noon at the WigWam for its weekly dinner and business meeting. Raymond Jensen Suffers Snake Bite Raymond Jensen, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Sigvald Jen sen, was bitten by a snake while picking blackberries this week. Mr. Jensen had the same mis fortune last week while picking beans, neither have suffered se rious complications from the bites. 'Wp ppir.gr "Water Mr. and Mrs. Walter Roberts drove to Lincoln Thursday eve ning after banking hours here. Mrs. Clifford Cooper, who was a recent surgery patient at St. Mary's hospital in Nebraska City returned here to her home Thursday. Wpppinp: W.itcr Rain Postpones Band Concerts The weekly band concert has become the weekly rain date. A late afternoon rainstorm post poned the concert again. Heavy winds with quite an electrical storm brought an inch of rain. Music lovers could, however, lis ten to the dance music of Ross Nichols and his Four Pennies. Weeping: Water Jerry Stone visited with Mr. and Mrs. Charles V. Wallick Monday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Domingo, John. Mary and Miss Leah Noble are on their return trip home from the west coast, having made Hardin, Mont., the first of the week. They were making a brief visit with John Swindle, their brother-in-law. Mr. Swin dle had expected to make the California trip with the Do mingos but late developments made the trip impossible at the time they went. The West ern vacationers will be here the first of next week. eepinK Water Swim Week Gets Underway Monday Red Cross swim week started Monday, Aug. 6. For these who are interested in either begin ner or advanced swimming at South Bend, the place of meet ing is the corner by the Nebras ka State Bank. The time is be tween 12:45-1:00 o'clock. Weeping Water Twins Born To Willard Wipf 's , Mr. and Mrs. Willard Wipf are parents of twin babies, born ; August 1st at St. Mary's hos pital in Nebraska City. Rev. ; and Mrs. J. S. K. Going to Omaha Satur day he visited with Miss Eileen Fitzpatrick, his cousin. James leaves for his Florida base this week end. Cpl. Roger Bickford of Camp Travis, Calif., arrived here on a two week furlough. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Bickford, Nancy, Reggie and Miss Barbara Kep linger met him in Omaha Sun day evening. Little is here spending his furlough from army life with his mother, Mrs. Martha Little. Wednesday Mrs. Little and daughter, Mrs. Clar ence Wilson and Pfc. Little were in Omaha during which time they stopped in at Offutt Field, Ft. Crook. Weepir-s Water Sgt. Lloyd Barkhurst was home over the week end from Forbes Air Base, Topeka, Kan., with his parents. Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Barkhurst. Sgt. William Mutter was also here from Forbes Air Base for the week end with his wife and son. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Norris, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cook, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Norris and fam ily. Mrs. Grace Copple all en poyed a picnic outing at Stein hart Park last Sunday. Maureen Morris, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Morris, re turned here from Denver where i she had been visiting with her J grandfather, D. E. .Moss. Mrs. Morris' brother brought Mau reen back by car and visited here for a few hours and left for the return trip to Denver. Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Gray and Dale of Seward were here Sat urday evening. Dale stayed here as a week end guest of Lanny Ludwick while his parents drove to Plattsmouth where they were guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Puis. Mrs. Alice Whitcomb, Miss Laura Whitcomb and Miss Alice Whitcomb of Fremont were vis iting here last week for several days with their daughter and sister, Mrs. Arthur Meeske and family. TCP sTsr Thvp V CLOSE lis mm Bonnie Morse Tells Of Coming Marriage Announcements were received here this week end of the com ing marriage of Miss Bonnie Morse, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Morse of Crete to Donald W. Downs. The wedding date has been set for Sunday after noon, August 19 at the Grace Methodist Church in Crete. Mr. Morse is a former Weeping Wa ter resident, having moved from here in the middle 1920's. Cherry last week end. Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Mayfield who have been vacationing for the summer months returned this week from Denver for a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Rector and family. Mr. and Mrs. Frances Miller and family of Palmyra and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Patten of Mil ford were guests at the home of Mrs. Phillip Miller this week end. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Day were Lincoln motorists Monday. They visited with Mr. and Mrs. Ted Akeson that evening before returning home. Weeping- Water Jolly Health Club Plans Picnic Party The Jolly Health Cooking Club met at the home of their leader, Miss Margaret Ranney, with a roll call for each mem ber to respond with a good pic nic idea. The lesson was on picnic suppers, salads, and sand wiches. Miss Ranney gave a salad demonstration, while Myr na Van Horn made sandwiches of ground ham and pickles. Spice cup cakes were judged ac cording to our 4-H club rules and all "were given a first. Games were played -as usual. The next meeting had as lesson. Canning, with Mrs. J. M. Ranney show ing how to can applesauce. She also told about the most im portant rules in judging canned fruits, vegetables, remembering their appearance, quality, uni formity and the pleasing flavor. Roll call was made with each member responding to a can ning help. Achievement day is to be held following the Cass County Fair. This is a two week's report of the health club. weiki- water ter. Kathy, of El Reno, Okla.. visited here briefly with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Potts last Fri day. Mrs. Doyle left for Omaha where she visited with her brother. Colonel Harold and Mrs. Hinds and family until Sunday. They returned here and Mrs. Arthur Berthold and Patty returned to El Reno with them for a visit. Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Porter vis ited with Mr. and Mrs. George Kopf of Greeley while they were on their Colorado vacation. Eight Weeping Water people are glad that summer school is over for this season. Mrs. J. Later in the day, af ter the shower, Mr. and Mrs. Plybon were guests when Mr. Briggs blew out the candles. With the cake, the hostess ser ved ice cream for these present in the household. Kimwood Mr. and Mrs. LaMoyne Spohn and daughters, and Mr. and Mrs. Emil Rosenow were picnic supper guests with Martha Hoover, on Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Bockel man have moved into the new home on Mrs. Lucy Schick Stege's farm. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Turner of Humboldt were Tuesday guests of his sister. Mrs. Wm. Whitnev. Mrs. Marion Pratt Eillers re ceived the degree of Bachelor of Education, at the close of the State Normal Peru summer school. Mrs. Weigert has returned from the hospital and is now a natient in the home of Mrs. Fred Wilken. Mrs. Mary Williams returned home from the hospital on Monday. Since the summer school at Lincoln has closed the Glen Nicklas family have returned to their home at Wauneta. Miss Fern Davis and her last Sunday by bus for Alexan dria. Va.. where they will visit mother, Mrs. W. W. Davis, left with Sgt. and Mrs. Arthur Ev erett and family. Mrs. John Albert and Mrs. E. W. LaRue completed their work for the Cass County Fair Association as of last week. They met with the board mem bers to make their final report on their work with the fair book j advertisements. - Herman Dixon of Bell, Calif., I is visiting here with his sister, OUT Him Mrs. Zink Leaves For European Tour An item of Interest to Cass County people is the journey now being taken by Mrs. Har riet Rogers Zink. She left Lin coln July 31, to sail for Europe, then on to Cairo. Eeypt. The plan is to go camel back to view the pyramids. Next trip is to go to the Holy Land by air. Com ing back through Europe again she expects to arrive in' New York City about Oct. 3rd., and to be at home in Lincoln two weeks later, after visiting rela tives in different states. Friends count on interesting travelogues later on. Kimwood Mrs. Mel Miller has been in Omaha part of this week where she has been taking check ups on her health. Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Phillips were in Omaha on Thursday af ternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Weisheit and family spent Saturday and Monday at the Orvil Noell home. Donna Mae and Gail Miller called there on Monday also. The Krecklow family have a new addition to their house in the way of a modern bathroom and also a new cellar stairway. Mrs. Linnie Deles Denier at tended the services for Mrs. Muenchau and visited relatives later. She now lives in Univer sity Place. Elmwood Birthday Parties Held Near Palmyra On Sunday there wras an in teresting occasion at the home of the Lloyd Kunz family near Palmyra. Honored guests were Mrs. Sara Spohn of Weeping Water. LaMoyne Spohn. Harlan Kunz and Lloyd Kunz whose birthdays were this week. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Kunz and Myron. Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Kunz and Ona lee. Mr. and Mrs. LaMoyne Soohn, Carolyn and Jolene. Sarah Spohn, Mr. and Mrs. Myrl Kunz and Shirlene of Talmaee. and Herbert Blumm of South Bend. A fine picnic dinner was enjoyed. rimwood Wm.
