July 20, 1951. The double ng ceremony was per formed bv Rov. Elby Boosineer of jlma in. the presence of 200 relatives and friends. Miss Marlene Eidenmiller played the wedding music and acrompanied Miss Joan Backe meyer. who sans? "Because" and "The Lord s Prayer." Miss-Edith William, maid of honor, wore a gown of orchid sheer organdy with matching taffeta skirt. She carried a bou quet of mini-green and white asters. Miss Beth Mendenhall. bridesmaid, wore a mint-green gown, identical to the maid of honors'. She carried a colonial bouquet of orchid and white as ters. .The unae wore a gown of white marka-sheer styled with a hiah round neckline, outlined wi'tlVa ruffle of imported chan tilly lace. The long, tight sleeves came to points at the wrist. Her full skirt fell from a fitted bod ice to tiptoe length and ended in , a cathedral train. Richard Koch of Dunbar and Miss Donna Swarts of Elmwood lighted the candles. Gilford Koch was ringbearer and Miss Diane Emke was flower girl. Richard Kirchhoff of Weep ing Water was best man. Ar thur Dettmer was groom's at tendant. Robert McLaughlin, Ralps Emshoff and Eddie Woh lers were ushers. Following the ceremony a re ception was held in the church parlors. Miss Roberta Kunz of Weeping Water was in charge of the guest book and Miss Lil lian Klemme of Murdock and Miss Lois Noel of Weeping Water arranged the gifts. The bride is a graduate of Elmwood high school and has been employed at an Elmwood grocery. The groom is a gradu ate of Avoca high school and is now serving in the army. Mrs. Peterson will reside at Elmwood while her husband serves in Alaska. Lewiston Social Circle Club Meets The July meeting of 'the Lew iston Social Circle club was held at the community center with Mrs. Ben Albin and Mrs. Keith Hostetter as hostesses. The president, Mrs . Lloyd Lewis, led the group in the busi ness and social affairs of the club. The August meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Henry -Hob-scheidt Wednesday. August 22. This date was chosen to give the club a chance to use some spe cial material from the extension service. Lunch of ice cream, cake and cold drink was served by the hostesses. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Manasek, Beverly and Bobby, visited Mrs. Manasek's aunt. Her full length sweetheart veil of tulle and lace was held in place by a satin tiara trimmed with seed pearls. She carried a cascade bouquet of calla lilies. Mrs. Gerald Blatchford, Lin coln, was matron of honor. Her gown was of green and white marquisette over green taffeta St. John's Guild INIeets Monday St. John's Guild met at the home of Mrs. Wm. Woolcott Monday evening, July 23. The group sewed articles in readiness for the bazaar which is to be held in the fall. The finished articles, aprons and pil low cases were displayed. . Hostesses were Mrs. Otto Web er, Mrs. Robert Whalen and Mrs. Helen Smith. Refreshments were served. Jimmy Arundel Notes Birthday' Jimmy Don Arundel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don J. Arundel, observed his fourth birthday with a morning party Monday, July 30th at his home in Hill-crest-Drive. Eight playmates from Hillcrest were present to help him cele brate. Birthday cake and ice cream were served. Girls To Spend Week At Camp Sandra Young and Merry Jo Williams went to Camp Harriett naraing at Louisville Sunday afternoon. They plan to SDend a week there. They were ac companied by their parents, who inspected the camp and watched me girls swim. Sandra and Merrv Joe are from the Ne-Top-Pew Campfire group of Plattsmouth. Lutheran Ladies Give $25 To Relief Christ Lutheran Ladies Aid met at the church parlors Wed nesday afternoon with Mrs. OUn Scbafer and Mrs. Arthur Hild as hostesses. Members of the aid voted to donate $25 toward flood relief in Florence, Kansas. Following he business meeting, the de votional was led by Mrs. Joseph Puis. She chose for her topic "Real Home Missions." Marilyn Schafer sang "Just for Today," accompanied by Mrs. A. Lentz. Refreshments were served by the hostesses at the close of the afternoon . John Fischer, former publish er of the Sutton News, visited Thursday afternoon and eve ning with Mr. and Mrs. R R Furse and son. Butch. He served with the army overseas and is a lieutenant in the reserves. At present he is attending the Uni versity of Nebraska where he is affiliated with Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity,, and -.will graduate in August. After a short wedding trip, , the couple will make their home in Lincoln. Burton Family . 1 Reunion Is Held Here Sunday,-July 29 - Last Sunday marked the an nual reunion of the Burton fam ily which was held in Garfield Park. There were 12 families, consisting of 36 members pres ent. At an early hour the folks be gan to gather with well filled baskets of food. At the noon -hour, the ladies spread the food on the tables. Since the meet ing of last year, one death, that of Mrs. Elizabeth Burton of Ne braska City, has occurred. There also has been one addition, Ed ward Vance Burton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Burton of Hast ings. After the noon lunch, Guy C. Burton, chairman of the group, called them together for a shftrt business session. All officers were re-elected. They are Guy C. Burton, president; J. B. Graves, secretary-treasurer, and Jas Vance was named vice chairman. Mrs. Ona Thimgan was elected assistant secretary treasurer. Hastings was selected for the 1952 reunion. It will be held the last Sunday in July. After the business meeting, a short program was presented. Local Members Host To Sigma Chi Picnic Saturday Evening Saturday evening the local ac tive , of Lincoln chapter Sigma Chi, Allan Carper of Murray. Carl Ofe and Gary Ashbaugh oi this city were hosts at a picnic party for visiting Omaha and Lincoln members. The picnic was held at a local bathing beach. In addition to the active mem bers of the chapter a number of young men from Omaha and Lincoln who are entering the University of Nebraska this fall were guests. Bathing and a fine picnic lunch and refreshments were served to make the event most pleasant. Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Davis and sons were in Omaha for the week end visiting at the home of Mrs. Emma Johnson, mother of Mrs. Davis and with Misses Laura and Ella Petersen,' A Classified Ad in The Journal costs as little as 35c. In the absence of President Mildred Hall. Mrs. Mary Jane Dunlap presided over the meet ing. The secretary read the call to the convention to be held in Omaha at the Fontenelle hotel August 17-18-19. Four delegates and alternates were elected. Delegates are the president, secretary, rehabilitation and child welfare chairmen and Mrs. Dorothy Janecek. Alternates are Mrs. Ruth Krings, Vera Warga. Bea Brothers. and Sophia Wol ever. Reports were given by the various committees, and the auditing committee reported that books have been audited and are okay. Members of the committee are Mrs. Sophia Wol ever. Mrs. Tena Caldwell and Mrs. Wilma Hennings. The unit voted to hold a bake sale August 11, and gave $5 to the flood relief project. Marilyn Stoehr .was intro duced to the group and gave her report on Girls' State. The Legion Auxiliary and V.F.W. Auxiliary co-sponsored her par ticiDation in the annual event. Miss Stoehr had her scrap book of Girls' State activities, which members of the unit en joyed looking through. In her report Miss Stoehr said they actually did the work of state officials while at Lincoln. They voted in the regular voting booths used by Lincoln, held meetings in the Legislative Chambers and passed and re jected bills. They lived in sor ority houses while on the cam pus. Highlight of the week was a Saturday night dance with members attending Boys' State. The meeting was closed and refreshments served by Miss Ida Patton. Mrs. Emma McClure, Mrs. La Vetta Baumgart, Mrs. Mary Jane Dunlap and Mrs. Helen Wolcott. CALENDAR Thursday, August 2 The regular monthly meeting of Hugh J. The girls will be five years old August 5 and 8. A birthday cake was a feature of the lunch. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Beason, Mrs. Emma Moeller, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Moel- ler, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Moeller, Mr. and Mrs. Neal Wilson and Gail, all of Dunbar. Bert Fulton Returns To Home Bert Fulton has returned to his home in Long Beach, Calif., after spending two weeks with his mother and other relatives in Plattsmouth. While here, a family gathering was held at the( home of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Kief. Homemade ice cream and cake were served during the evening. ' Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Briggs, Fre mont, were dinner guests at the Don J. Arundel home Sunday. Jimmy Arundel, grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Briggs, whose birthday was July 30, was the honoree. BALLOT FOR "Miss Plattsmouth I Nominate For Miss Plattsmouth, to ride the float, at Cass County Fair, sponsored by the Business Men's Ad Club of Plattsmouth. Twenty-Six At Extension Club NEHAWA (Special) Twen- ty-six members and guests at tended the Maple Grove exten sion club meeting at the home of Mrs. F. O. Sand. Assisting her were Mrs. Elmer Ross and Mrs. Lyman Anderson. Guests were Mrs. Fred Bischof, Chi cago; Mrs. Don Chaloupka, Ne braska City; Mrs. Lucy Lyle, Elmwood; Mrs. Floy Buell, Mur doch; Mrs. C. D. St. John. Mrs. Hall Pollard presented a very interesting lesson, "If You Were Suddenly Left Alone, What Would You Do?" An in teresting discussion was given with the lesson by those pres ent giving their own experiences in legal matters. Mrs. Ivan Hansen, president, conducted the meeting. Mrs. Nelson Berger gave a very in teresting report on the recent meeting of the Cass County I Council, which she attended at Weeping Water. She listed the ! lessons for the coming club year, fabrics, old and new; bread and i conserving health. An opinion ! poll of 670 cards were sent out into the county and 234 were returned. Paul Eveland was able to re turn from the hospital on Wed nesday of this week after his in jury of a week ago. Klmwood Male Quartet Gives Concert At Elmwood The male quartette from York College gave a concert at the E. U. B. church on Monday evening. They are on a good will tour on which their sched ule is to be in several states, and with around 8.000 miles of travel. Rev. E. F. Haist was the chairman. Rev. Overton Turner lead in the prayer and Rev. J. A. Adams in the closing prayer. The first part of the program consisted of sacred songs and hymns sung in beautiful har mony, "My Cathedral' being one of them. There was a group of solos, vocal piano and trumpet, and a section of music in a lighter veing with varied numbers. There were spirituals, a ' Barber Shop" imitation number, and at the close a Navy Prayer song. One interesting feature was their so called 'commercial." The pianist and the four young men each told why they attend ed this college and from whence they came. One was from Colo rado, two from Kansas, one from Iowa, others from this state. Three were preparing for the ministry, one for a doctor, and the pianist for a music career. They stressed the friendliness pn the campus, and the strong spiritual and educational fea tures. They also told of the new building and bad pictures for display. The boys were entertained in the homes of Mrs. Rosenkoetter, August Oehlerking and the Haist parsonage. Also they were in vited to the home of Supt. Col on for ice cream and coffee after the program. Both Mr. and Mrs. Colon are from this university nd two of the teach ers for next year were formerly graduated there, too. Klmwood Jim Schlanker is now a new patient at the Ebeler Nursing Home. Under sewing those receiving the highest votes were using sewing machine attachments, remodeling tricks, blouses, dresses and aprons. A poll showed many young women were joining extension clubs. Plans are in progress for a mother's vacation camp for next year. There will also be a tour of new homes in eastern Cass county later in the fall. An interesting special lesson for the women of the county will be "Fun Fixing Flowers." Maple Grove club and Louis ville will have a display at the county fair on "Upholstery.' Neal and the grandson called at Plybons and reports that his brother, John, is counting on a Cass county visit in late summer or fall. Klmwood New Officers Take Over Community Kensington Tasks Community Kensington was held with Mrs. Stovall on Thursday afternoon with the new officers in charge, Mrs. Ellis Miller beine the president. Mrs. Lucy Stege lead the jokes section of the program and Mrs. Stovall presented Joyceola Eid enmiller and George for the musical part. They played two flute and piano duets and Joy ceola played a piano solo. It was decided to have the August meeting in the park, the weather being favorable.
