THE PLATTSMOUTH, NEBRASKA, SEMI-WEEKLY JOURNAL PAQB TWO Section B Monday, April 16, 1951 latv-Sm Members Listed On Charter Three charter members of Aerie No. 3G5, Platlsmouth, are stil lactlve with the group. On the eve of the 43th anniversary of the lodge here, they still maintain active membership. They are Ed Donat, James Rebal and Joe Hadraba. The other 63 charter members have cither dropped their mem bership, riled, or have moved from Plattsmouth. But the many hundreds of Plattsmouth Eagles who have followed in their footsteps have upheld the traditions and insti tutional qualities endowed in the early members. Local Eagles point with pride to' the large framed charter which hangs in the main hall of the Eale building. Many have read the inscription on the charter. It reads. Bnstitartecl April 19, '03 April 19, 1903, at eight o'clock in the evening, in the . hall above Atwood's drug store on the south side of Main! street between 5th and 6th streets, the Fraternal Order of i Eagles was formally instituted in Plattsmouth. Henry Donat, now deceased, was named instituting Past Grand Worthy president and formally installed elec-' the office holders for the year. j Officers of Plattsmouth Aerie No. 365 in 1903 were: 1 D. Svoboda, Hall Set Good Records As Secretaries Jim Hall, current secretary of Plattsmouth Aerie, No. 365. Fra ternal Order of Eagles, and J. J. Svoboda, hold distinguished rec ords as secretaries of the organ ization. Others have had their turn a' the task of handling routine af fairs and overall activities of the group, but these two seem to hold the edge. Svoboda's record is especially impressive, as he was at the helm of the organization from its early beginning. Named secretary of the Plattsmouth Aerie shortly after it was insti tuted, he was instrumental in its activities during the diaper stage of its development. He wras secretary for many years, as records of the Aerie will bring out. The minutes of the meeting from 1903 through out almost two decades are care fully recorded iri his handwrit ing. Svoboda faced the task of op erating the organization on a shoestring. Its balance seldom moved above the $100 mark "and charitable expenses and normal operating expenses often left a balance of only a few bucks when the books were closed each month. Those were trying days as the infant group continued to fol low the fraternal and charitable objectives of Eagles. But through careful inspection of the books, high -membership interest and fund-raising promotions, the early generation of the Aerie prospered and led to the activi ties of the group today nn'" undergoing the samp. carefV observance of Jim Hall.
