The statement of the en gineers cn the street work will be submitted to the Chamber of I Commerce as per their request j for examination and to consult iwilh the city in regard to the I matter at a later time. Engineer Douglas McKnight of Lincoln was present and gave a short talk on the proposed re pairing of the large storm sewer in the alley south of Main street. An examination had been made of the sewer, the engineer re ported that there had been found a great deal of erosion on the side walls of the large brick sewer, also for a considerable distance along the roof of the sewer there was a large crack extending that might portend a very serious future condition and possible sewer collapse in case of extreme high water. The examination of the sewer had been made by Mr. MeKnight and Elmer Gochenour, city street foreman, pictures being taken of the interior of the sewer. It was the suggestion of Mr. McKnight that the sewer be re lined with concrete, that a wov en wire mesh be placed there and forced into place by pres sure, reinforced with steel ribs to assist in making it a safe and sound sewer. It was possible, the engineer pointed out, that a fed eral grant might be secured for the engineering costs of the plan. With a combined sanitary and storm sewer it might be possible to issue revenue bonds, but a straight storm sewer would re quire a bond issue to be voted. He stated that he as well as Frank Darrow had recommend ed that another sewer be plac ed along First avenue or Pearl street under the present hill a3 a means of additional sewer fa cilities, but with the widening of Main street, this might not be necessary. The council took the matter under advisement until the next meeting on March 13th. Mr. Mc Knight estimated the cost of the sewer repair would range from $30,000 to $35,000. The council also received com plaints of trucks driving over the sidewalks near 8th street and First avenue and this was re ferred to the mayor and police to correct. The city council received a number of applications for li quor and beer licenses for the coming year: Phil Haldeman, class C; George Corns, beer off and on; Helen Rosbrough, class C; Harry Albin, beer off and on; V. F. W. Club, beer on sale; Eagles, class C; 40 & 8 club, class C; Ralph Timm. class C; Ed ward and Henry Donat, class C; Erna Lapidus class C; Bright Spot, Scharp & Wurtele, Class C.
