In the PURE-PAK Monday, June 6, 1949 Thirty guests were entertained at the home of Mrs. John Dill, Tuesday afternoon, honoring Miss Margaret Pedersen, whose j marriage to Edgar Mogensen takes place in the near future. Assisting Mrs. Dill, as hostess, were Mrs. William Newham and Mrs. John Sheehan. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Pedersen, and she has taught in the Mt. Hope district, for the past two years. Games were played and the bride re ceived some very beautiful and useful gifts, after which sand wiches, pickles, potato chips, strawberry shortcake and coffee were served. Supt. and Mrs. R. C. Porter and their four daughters, arriv ed home Wednesday evening af t- , er several days pent with rela tives in Iowa. Mrs. Lillian Ingwerson Selcor of Lincoln, and her son, Tom Dodson and his wife, spent Sat urday night at the E. L. Ham mond home. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Shumaker and their son went to Superior, Saturday morning to visit Mr. Shumaker's mother, Mrs. K. L. Shumaker. Guests at the John Albert home, during the Decoration Day week-end were Mrs. Carl Gerathwahl (Ruth Morris) of Beatrice, Troy Davis, brother of ! Mrs. Albert, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Smith, of Lakeview, Iowa, who remained from Saturday until Wednesday. Mrs. Edith Jones , of San Leander, Calif., came Saturday afternoon and re mained until Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Ortell spent part of her time with her son and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Rathbun, who live on the Gorden Hene ger farm. Mrs. Ortell is a sister of Mrs. John Heebner. Mr. and Mrs. Richmond Ham mond and their daughter, Lou Dee, of Columbus, spent Satur day and Sunday at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Hammond. The wind, rain and hail, which struck Weeping Water late Wednesday afternoon, did considerable damage to the Chi nese Elm trees on the east side of the Christian Science church. Near the entrance to Wolcott's Park, a large maple tree was torn down and thrown across the highway leading west from town. South of the Floyd Hite home, a tree was blown down, breaking a telephone pole, send ing the toll cable to the ground. Branches of trees were lying all over the ground, but no serious damage reported. Plattsmouth "Spinnit Days" start Wednesday, June 15. It MILK Paper Carton Mr. and Mrs. Lee Heneger, of Lincoln, were Weeping Water visitors on Decoration Day. One half of the Tawanka group of Camp Fire Girls served a dinner to the remainder of their group, ancj their leaders, Wednesday evening, in the dining room of the Congregational church, to earn their Firemaker's rank. The j table was artistically decorated) and the following menu was! served. Fruit cocktail, escallop-' ed tuna fish, buttered peas, toss ed salad, rolls, jelly and home made ice cream. Mrs. Richmond Hobson is leader of this group. Mrs. Joe Bender was also a guest. J Arriving Saturday at the J. E. j Sperry home were his sisters, Mrs. W. G. Ripley and Miss Eva! Sperry and a niece and her hus band, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Cov er and son, William Michael, all of Kansas City. Mr. and Mrs. Cover returned home Tuesday morning, the sisters remained for a longer visit. A group of former school friends gathered at the Howard Colbert home for a picnic supper, Monday evening. Those attend ing were Mr. and Mrs. Glen Hen eger, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Colbert and two sons: Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Doty, Winona Doty, and Mr. and Mrs. John Albert and son, Tom Albert. Word has been received from Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Gardener, (Wanda Steinkamp). of Carey, North Carolina, telling of the birth of a son. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Steinkamp are the baby's grand parents. Mrs. C. E. Pool and Miss Hazel Pool spent Sunday at Wabash, attending the Memorial services at the Wabash cemetery. They were met there by Dr. and Mrs. j Raymond Pool, and Miss Eloi.se j Pool, of Lincoln, and all had dinner at the Albert Pool home. Mr. and Mrs. John Johnson (Charrie Butler) of Herman, spent Sunday at the Julius Niel sen home, in Weeping Water. Sterling Marshall left Friday for Philadelphia, to resume his position as organist in a Boy's School, which he left to enter the Army. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Weddell, of Top&ka. Kansas, came Monday, and visited at the home of Mrs. Weddell's parents. Mr. and Mrs. Homer Jameson. Tuesday, they attended commencement exer cises at Wesleyan University, when Mr. Weddell's brother was one of the graduates. ' Mrs. A. H. Petersen, of Louis ville, was a week-end guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry ! Urish. Mrs. Petersen is an aunt of Mrs. Urish. It takes more than the threat of showers to keep people away from the Ray Norris home on their annual picnic day. 101 guests attended the gala event, Sunday, after the close of church. Well filled baskets and the well known fine cooks of this vicinity left nothing lack ing in the way of fine food, and the congenial group of friends gathered there made the day another memorable one, for all who attended. Besides the Weeping Water guests, there were also guests from Alvo, Avo ca, Bethany and Lincoln. Mr. and Mrs. Parr Young en joyed a visit with their daugh ter in Michigan, last week. Among the Decoration Day visitors in Weeping Water, were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gilmore. Mrs. Gilmore is just recently out of a Lincoln hospital, suf fering from a broken hip. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Morse, of Crete, spent Decoration Day in Weeping Water. Mrs. E. L. Klein, of Denver, left for home Monday evening after a week's visit at the home of her mother, Mrs. Emmor Marshall. Jack Hayes underwent a ma jor operation at the Veteran's Hospital, Tuesday morning. He had been in the hospital for the past two weeks. His suffering had been intense. The opera tion uncovered a large abcess on the bladder. It is hoped that his condition will improve rap-, idly, since the cause of his suf fering has been found. Mrs. Oscar Johnson, came from Friend, to be in Weeping Water for Memorial Day. Mr. and MrsT. Hugh Hanlan and. their house guests, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Durante, and son, Charles, all went to St. Joseph, Sunday to attend the fiftieth wedding anniversary of Mrs. Hahlan's sister. Mrs. George Domingo returned homo last week after a two weeks stay at Cheyenne, Wyo ming to be near her brother, Harvey Heneger, who has been confined to the Cheyenne hos pital. She reports that she left him somewhat improved. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Elliott and two children, Dicky and Ronny, spent Sunday at the home of Mrs. Elliott's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Schindler, of Nebraska City, and assisted in decorating graves of relatives at Nebraska City and at Peru. They then drove to Sidney, Iowa, to visit the graves of Mr. Elliott's relatives, and to get their daughter, Maribelle, who spent last week with relatives in Oma ha, and" they were spending the day at Sidney. William Faux was at home from the Des Moines Veterans hospital, and spent the week end at home with his mother, Mrs. Earl Powers. Mrs. Earl Powers is taking a vacation from her duties as Missouri Pacific agent, at Man ley, this week, and Jerry Opp is taking her place. During her vacation Mrs. Powers expects to visit her husband at Leaven worth, then to Wichita and to visit her sister, Mrs. Mildred Gamer, at Minneapolis, Minneso ta. Before returning she will also visit her brother, at Zumbra Falls, Minnesota. M. and Mrs. Kenneth Durman spent their two days vacation with relatives at Nebraska City. A former Weeping Water girl, Pat Wainscott, was installed as Worthy Advisor, of the Order of Rainbow Girls, No. 6, at Lincoln, Friday evening. Some of the Weeping Water members of the organization attended the in stallation. Miss Wainscott is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. D. Wainscott. Mrs. Chris Elgaard and her grandson. Raymond, went to Des Moines, Friday to spend the week-end at the nome of her son. Richard Rehmeier and wife. Virgil Miller visited at the home of his brother-in-law and sister, Rev. and Mrs. Harold Baker at Bassett last week. Leonard Doty returned home Friday after a two weeks stay at Mayo Brother's clinic, at Ro chester. Minnesota. He will re main at home for a week then return to Mayo Brothers for further medical care. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Marth und son, Jerry, returned home Monday. Mrs. Marth and Jerry had been with Mrs. Marth's mother, Mrs. Ole Olsen, for the past month. Mr. Marth came for the week-end and Decora tion Day. Mrs. C. Wallen, of Lincoln, came Sunday and remained un til Monday at the home of her sister, Mrs. L. J. Lane and her brother, Isaac Reed. Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Michelmann and daughter, Barbara, and Paula Lunquist, all of Grand Is land, were visiting at the home of Mrs. Chas. Meyer, on Decora tion Day. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Jamesen. of Plattsmouth. were Weepinsr Wa ter visitors on Decoration Day. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Stratton and two children, Pamela Jean and Ronny, of Omaha, spent Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Stratton. Joan Berthold had an exciting horseback ride Monday evening. Pauline Roberts rode into town on her horse, and Joan thought that a ride would be fun. She rode quietly around part of the block, until her dog spied her on the horse and ran after her, barking. That startled the horse, who raced across the lots and across the railroad track. With Joan screaming, there was excitement, plenty, for awhile, until some of the neighbors Mr. and Mrs. John Dill and family left Wednesday for a visit with relatives in California. Following the Memorial Day services, Monday afternoon, there was a gathering of rela tives at the Dan Sudduth home, with a delicious lunch served late. in the afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hagan. Mr. and Mrs. Victor Cole and Mrs. Charles Cole of Grant, came Sunday and re mained until Tuesday. There were also Mr. and Mrs. Paul Em bury and sons, Mrs. Ethel Em bury, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hinds and son, Tommy; Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Bates, all of Lincoln; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Cole, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Koch and two children, of Plattsmouth; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hansen, Bellevue; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Embury, Doniphan, Nebr.; H.
