Mr. and Mrs. Alvin McRey nolds returned Tuesday from a trip to the Ozarks. They were accompanied by their niece, Thelma Root of Lincoln. They visited the Shepherd of the Hills country in Arkansas, and Lake of the" Ozarks in Missouri. Mrs. Gilbert Kime and Mrs. Alvin McReynolds took Miss Root to Lincoln Tuesday to return to her duties at the Capitol building. A. B. Rutledge is seriously ill w;th a heart ailment. Mrs. Omer Schlichtemeier re turned Monday from Rutland, Vermont, where she spent three weeks with Dr. Norman Johnaen and Dr. Earl Johnson. Mr. and Mrs. Randall Switzer and family spent the week end with Mr .and Mrs. Oren Ray mond Pollard at Schaller, Iowa. 'Mr. and Mrs. Neil Roberts of La Verne. Minn., who are attend ing the Aksarben livestock show in Omaha, were guests Monday and Monday night of Mr. and Mrs. Kenning Johnson. On Mon day afternoon the Johnsons and their guests went to Tecumseh where they were guests for sup per of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Martin. Mrs. Hugh Anderson of Gree ley, Colorado is a guest of her sister, Miss Eleanor Easter. Rev. and Mrs. Tom Moore were dinner gues's of Mr. and Mrs. Nels Thoren Sunday. Rev. Moore is the new pastor of the U. B. church. He and Mrs. Moore attended Bible School in Omaha and ccme to Nehawka for Sun day services. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Russel and Merle Harden of Omaha visited at the Thoren home Sunday evening. Wayne and Charlene Thoren of Wecp ing Water are staying with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Nels Thoren, while their mother, Mrs. Francis Thoren is in Bryan Mem orial hospital for surgery. Mr. and Mrs. Nels Thoren visited her on Wednesday and her condition is as well as can be expected. Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Griffen of Union visited at the Thoren heme Friday and Mrs. LeRoy McFarland was a guest Satur day. Examinations for the regular clerk for the Nehawka pest of fice will be given at the high school building at Nebraska City on November 6. Mr and Mrs. Gene Banks and family attended the funeral of Mrs. Frank Meyers at Talmage Tuesday. Achievement tests' were given to the grade pupils last week. Ray Nixon and R. B. Stone have made two teeter-totters fcr the school grounds. Dr. and Mrs. An dersen will conduct physical ex aminations of all the school chil dren this week. Mrs. Grace Pollei and Carolyn Ann, have come to Alvo from Rosebud, Texas, to visit with Mrs. Pollei's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rueter. Mrs. Esther Clark and children, and Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Adams and girls, of Eagle, visited at Guide Rock, Nebraska Sunday. Marilyn Kellogg spent Mon day night with 'Doris Nelson. John Turner and Elmer Rueter went to Cedar Rapids, la., Thurs day, September 25 on business. Mr. and Mrs. John Stolz and Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Anderson attended the Ak-Sar-Ben Rodeo, in Omaha Monday evening, Octo ber 4. Rose Alene Bachman, spent last Sunday, with her daughter, Cindy Fay Bachman, who is staying with Mrs. Donald Skinner. Mr. and Mrs. Fred MsNeese have moved to Alvo from Lin coln. Mr. and Mrs. McNeese and family are living in the down stairs of the Marion Kellogg home. The Alvo M. E. Church is being redecorated on the inside. It is reported that the churqh will be finished this week. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Kellogg and children, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Wiles and children, and Mrs. Willard Rueter spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rueter and family and Mrs. Grace Pollei and Carolyn Ann. Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Moorland boys spent Fri dav evening at the Rueter home. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wright were Wednesday evening supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. j'ohm Meyers. Mrs. Clinton Green returned home from the hospital Thurs day afternoon. Robinson and Benny Buckingham were Sunday evening dinner guests of Mr and Mrs. Claude Osburn and family. Hazel Tubbs called on Mrs. Rose McDonald and E. L. McDon ald Thursday. The Jolly Joker Club met Friday with Mrs. Margaret How ard. Mr. ' and Mrs. J. C. Hoenshell spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Elzie Winget at Ashland. Mrs. Clinton Green is conva lescing at the home of her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Mei singer. The MWM Club met with Mrs. Feme Bates Thursday afternoon. Mr. A. L. Todd was a Sunday dinner guest A the Emil Mei singer home Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Chester Todd and family spent Sunday afternoon at the Emil Meisinger home. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Leesley and family spent the afternoon and evening there also. Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Grif fith are the parents of a baby girl born October 7 at St. Eliza beth hospital. The little Miss has been named Kay Jean. Mrs. Henry Masemah Journal Correspondent The Neumeister school house is undergoing extensive repair. They have had no school in the district as there weren't enough children. They plan to reopen next year when there will be several new families in the dis trict. Mrs. Hattie McCann sold her home this week to Mr. and Mrs. Robert McDonald and plans to go and live in Lincoln. She sold the lots on the north, the former George Sharkley place to H. H. Marquardt. Mrs. Eva Bond who is spend ing some time near Palmyra spent Sunday with her sons. Mrs. Wm. Baier, Mrs. Wm. Vette, Mrs. Paul Wolph, Mrs. Hans Jensen, Mrs. J. W. Brendel and Mrs. Dena Ruge attended the Lincoln association fall confer ence at Ashland Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Baier re turned last Monday from their trio to Colorado. Mrs. Julia Kokjer, Bcrtrand and her son Jordan Kohjer spent Monday evening with relatives. They went Tuesday to Omaha where Mrs. Kokjer entered St. Joseph hospital for a checkup. Herman Dankleff is a medical patient at Bryan Memorial hos pital. The businessmen of Avoca gave a free hamburger feed to the trade community last Wed nesday evening. Hamburgers, beans, relish and coffee were on the menu. The meat was bought at the Otoe county fair and was baby beef. There was ice cream for the kiddies and a double feature movie. They served 1900 hamburgers and there were some who came in too late. This is an example of what can be done when every one cooperates. Archie Bond, who has been farming his mothers farm east of town was married to Miss Mary Furree at Levonia, Indiana on September 13. They will con tinue to live there. A fall festival was given for benefit of the Avoca community library Saturday evening at the town hall by the Golden Rod club. A lovely array of flowers, fruits, and vegetables was on display. There was a lunch, bingo, a door prize, vegetables and flowers for sale, food home made candy, home made dough nuts. The proceeds was a nice start for purchase of new books and needed repair to the library. Mrs. Alvin Ludwig has been a patient at Bryan Memorial hos pital for an emergency appen dectomy. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Rathburn have moved in with her mother Mrs. Ruby Drury temporarily. Mrs. Jerome St. John who has . been quite ill is some improved at this writting. Harry Wohlers condition be came serious Thursday and his family was called in. He sub mitted to another operation Fri day evening and passed away Saturday evening". Saturday evening Mr. and Mrs. Maseman and John, Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Maseman drove to Omaha to see Mrs. Kokjer. Mrs. Kokjer will take some further treatments at the hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Maseman, Richard and John, Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Maseman and Paul were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Holm at Syracuse. John Johnson on Freshman Team John Johnson, one of the out standing members of the Platts mouth high school football team of 1947, who is now a student at the University of Nebraska, is taking a great interest in his favorite sport.
