if i I Inw)ood Mrs. Grace Piybon, Journal Correspondent Mrs. Gertrude Davis went to Lincoln on Saturday of last week to spend a few days with Miss Pauline Liston. Pauline has her plans completed for a trip to Alaska the latter part of June. A partv of four including Dr. and Mrs. "Welch will go by train to Seattle then on to Alaska by boat. While then3 they will visit Mrs. Geraldine Liston Kouten and family. Band concerts are scheduled to start here June 10. the town and school bands playing under the leadership of Miss Maxine Stone. Royal Neighbors met on Fri day afternoon with Mrs. Ray Fentiman. A bountiful covered dish luncheon was enjoyed. Mrs. Ruth Monning and Mrs. Emily Gonzales attended the wedding at Murdock on Satur day. June 5. of their niece. Miss Margaret Mills and Robert Dick : meyer of Fremont. The couple are having a wedding trip to Denver and the Black Hills. At the last quarterly confer ence meeting here the Methodist Church members voted for the ; return of Rev and Mrs. C. H. Lind to this field. They have been here eight years. However a ; change was made at the Lincoln conference session last week ,as Rev. Lind was so urgently in ; vited to go to the Oakland, West Side Church, which is in the ; Omaha District. They are now making ready to move these. For three months the pastor here will ; be Miss Lorene Schacht. She , plans to enter school for further ' study in mid-September. Mel Miller attended the con ference two days and Mrs. Miller one day last week. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Miller entertained his parents and two of his aunts and their husbands on Saturday night and Sunday at their home south of town. Mrs. Elsie Reeve of Iowa City, Iowa is spending this week at the homes of her nieces in this county, after attending the Mills Dickmeyer wedding on Saturday. On Tuesday in company with Mrs. Emily Gonzales she went to Eagle to visit Mrs. Fred Ru dolf and family. Mrs. Reeve re ports the Veather to be drier at Iowa City than here. A number of ladies of the Methodist WSCS spent Tuesday at the church making drapes for the basement windows. Jim Wade has been feeling very poorly at his home this wee k. Mr. and Mrs. George Moomey, Mrs". G. G. Douglas, Mrs. Ellen Douglas Pitts, Mrs. Cora Gerbe ling and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Piybon visited at Lincoln in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clark Gus tin and Mr. Kirby. They ate a picnic dinner at Pioneer Park, and saw the Pinewood Bowl. In the afternoon they enjoyed see ing the views from the more re cently taken films by the Gus tins in the basement of their new home on D street. The occa sion was in honor of Mrs. Pitts. An interesting Children's Day program was given at the Chris tian Church on Sunday morning, under the leadership of Mrs. Bernice Dankleff. She was as sisted by Mrs. Alma Hav and Mrs. Hazel Shelley. Heinz Brand has arrived home from Ft. Francis E. Warren, Wyoming to visit with his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Brand at Manley. Miss Louisa Thurman has re turned to Louisville for the Sum mer from Lincoln where she has been attending Nebraska Wes leyan University. Mr. and Mrs. Don McClintock of Plattsmouth were Sunday and Monday guests of Mrs. McClin. tock's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Terryberry. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Miller and Miss' Norma Jean.Heil of Omaha spent last week end at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Miller and other relatives. The Avoca Woman's Club held their annual picnic Wednesday evening in the church parlors and invited their families. The extension club held a two day chair clinic here at the church basement. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Johnson who have sold their home in west Avoca, left for Hammond, Ind.. where they have bought a new home. Mrs. Emma Rawalt returned home Sunday from Lewellen where she spent three weeks' with her son and family. Mr. and Mrs. William Vette were Lincoln business callers Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hennings were in Omaha Monday. They took Merle up where he entered business school. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Gess- of Nebraska City announce the en gagement of their daughter, Betty to Raymond Rippe, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Rippe. No date has been set But they plan a fall wedding. He had been called to Colo rado Springs by illness of a sister-in-law. Mrs. Henry Dankleff had the May Bird party, held for those that had birthdays' in May at her home Thursday evening. Smith, chairman for this county. "Everyone who can Duy ad ditional U. S. Savings Bonds is urged to do so by June 30, be fore the drive closes," said chair man Smith. Nebraskans purchased $20,069, 834 in E. F, and G series U. S. Savings Bonds' through May 31. and 53.5 per cent of the state's quota of $37,500,000 has been at tained. "We have a good chance of making our state quota, but it will take intensive work in all counties if we are to go over the top," said Allen T. Hupp of Omaha, State Chairman for Ne braska of the Advisory Com mittee for U. S. Savings Bonds sales. Twelve counties have already attained or exceeded their quota, Hupp said. Kimball with 183 per cent of its' quota already made is leading the state. Other counties over the top include: Cedar, Keya Paha, Wheeler.
