RESOLUTION WHERE At", several bridges on Cass County, Nebraska roads hae been damaged by a sudden casualty, to-wit: flood waters; and WHEREAS, said bridges need re pair on account of said high water; and WHEREAS, it appears necessary o make additional appropriations to meet said repairs as are essential to the preservation and maintenance within the County of public safety; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RE SOLVED that a emergency exists because of the immediate need of rcpai.-s on said bridges belonging to Cass County, Nebraska and for be preservation and maintenance Tithin Cass County of public safety; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Beard of Cass Coun ty, Nebraska give notice of its in tention to repair such damages by at least one publication in seme news paper of general circulation in the County: AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLV ED that at the time the Cass County Board makes the annual levy for County General Purposes, that a levy of not to exceed two-tenths (210) of one mill upon the Dollai valuation upon the property within Baid County be maue and that said levy be known as the "special emer gency bridge levy." Mrs. A. Dove Asch was visiting her friend, Mrs. Frank Scott Wednesday. Little D. D. Long was at Union for a few days lase week visiting his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Simon G ruber. Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Davis were Platts mouth visitors Monday where they had busi ness to transact. Mrs. Scotten and Mrs. Barrows were vot ing with friends in Plattsmouth Saturday. J. A. Davis was spending the week end iin Lincoln with his daughter, Miss Lola. Mr. and Mrs. Alber' Griffen entertained their Grandmother, Mrs. Jennie Jenkins gt a fried chicken dinner Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Dobbin were calling on Mrs. Pittman and Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Davis Sun day evening. Mrs. John Gleeson and Mrs. Herman Hichter were spending Wednesday shopping in Omaha. Mrs. Rachel Faris was a guest of her daughter, Mrs. George Rieke and family over the week end. Mrs. Will Minford was a Plattsmouth visitor on Saturday morning and upon her return home was accompanied by Mrs. Leila Minford who spent the day with her son and family Mr. and Mrs. Kirk and family are new resi dents of Murray, as they have recently moved into the former Oldham house, now the property of Rex Young of Plattsmouth. Earl Merritt was giving the home of Dr. and Mrs. Gilmore a new coat of plaint last week. Lawrence Smith is very busy these days as he is making and painting lawn furniture for so many people. Word was received by friends here of the safe arrival in England of Douglas Tilson. Mrs. John Carneal of near Maynard wa looking after some matters of business in Murray Saturday. Mrs. Clara Frans reports the promotion of her son Clark Jarvis from Pvt. to T-5. Dark is at this time undergoing intensive training, at Cheyenne, Wyo., preparatory to being sent across soon. Mesdames Carper, Rhoden and Fleming were shopping and looking after business matters in Plattsmouth Saturday morning. Mrs. Robert Rae who has not been in the best of health for some time, entered the St. Joseph hospital last week and on on Friday underwent an operation from which she is recovering nicely. Mr. Rae and Larry visited the paient Sunday, and found her doing well. Mrs. Chrissie Perry of Los Angeles was a (tuest ef the C. D. Spangler home last week and also called on several of her old time friends while here. Mrs. R. A. Noell drove to the Louisville vicinity Thursday to bring the young son, De Wayne home after a visit of a few days with the family of his uncle, Harry Noell. The A. L. Carper family were entertaining Sunday and had as their guests Mr. J. W. Grif fen, wife and small son from Lincoln. Mr. Griffen a brother of Mrs. Carper. Mrs. Ray Dill has received word that Ed Austin has left the shores of the I'nited States. Mrs. Fickler has returned to her home after a visit of a few days with her sister, Mrs. Jennie Jenkins. A number of relatives were helping Olin Mor ris to celebrate his birthday Sunday by en joying a picnic dinner under the shade trees at the home of Mrs. Lois Comstock. Those present to help Olin remember that he was a year older were his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Morris, and his sister. Miss Ruth, all of I'nion, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Mead, Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Wherbein, Mrs. James Comstock and Charlie, and Mr. and Mrs. Olin Morris -iid Jimmie and Marilyn. Mr. and Mrs. Reazner were calling on their friends, Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Tutt, Mon day evening. Fred Hild is assisting his son Henry to man ipulate the hay baler these days. At present they are baling for Ike Todd. Dunna Dea Frans and Larry Rea were spending last week with Larry's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Shrader, east of town. Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Morris were guests for dinner and the night Wednesday of the Olm Morris family. As noted In the World Herald of June 22, Charlene Spangler was one of the five highest students of Ben son High school. These five each made elevea scholastic points in the last sen-ester of the school year. Mrs. Frank Dill departed Sunday morning for Bjrbank, Calif., to make the acquaintance of her new grandson. Pnillip Dale Scott, whe arrived recently. He is the son of the foimer Thelma Dlil. Mrs. Ercel Frans of Nehnwka. ac companied by har daughter, Mrs. Sterling Ross, both from Nehavka were calling on Mrs. John Frans and children last week. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Howard were enjoying a visit from Mrs. Howard's mother, Mrs. Warner, of iMatts uiouth one day last week, also a sis ter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. L. Terryberry. Mrs. Chas. Boedeker and daughters Nancy and Suzanne, are spending the week in Stanwood, Icwa. with Rev. and Mrs. J. C. Stewart, parents cf Mrs. Boedeker. Mr. and Mrs Harry McCulloch are now grandparents, as a new little seven pound daughter was born to their daughter, Mrs. Carl Vest at St. Catherine's' hospital Sunday. Mr. Vest, who his been in the Navy for the past few years, is now across the waters. Mrs. Margaret Brendel had as her dinner guests Sunday, Dr. and Mrs. Will Brendel of Avo."a and Mr. and Mis. Will Seybolt Ray Desl.es Dernier has not been well for a few days, but at this ' time is improving. Ruth Ann and Lois Sporer wore guests of their cousins, Mary Kiith erine and Martina Spore for an over night visit Sunday. Pvt. Willard Nelson and his bride were visiting his mother, Mrs. Sel ma Nelson over Friday night. They having been married on Wednesday at Kirksville, Mo. They returned to Fairmont Air base Saturday morn ing, to Willard's post of duty. Mr. and Mrs Marion Wiles and rian were in Plattsmouth Sunday v. here they were enjoying a surprise birthday dinner honoring their grandmother, Mrs. Anna Wiles, who wa3 celebrating her birthday that day, with all the members of the family present. Dr. and Mrs. G. H. Gilmore were in Union Wednesday evening as din ner guests of Mr .ad MrB. Ray Frans. The Herman Wrohlfarth and Otto Shater families drove to Sprague Schater families drove to Sprague fives in holding the annual reunion of the Eggers family, their deceased mother's family. They enjoyed meet ing and visiting with many relatives who were there from other Jocaliftis. Around one hundred attended. Mrs. T. T. Long, who has n.ade her home in Glenwood, Iowa for some time was visiting over Sunday with Mr. Long and other friends. Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Davis and Mrs. Harriett Pitman had as thdr dinner guests and for the day Sunday, Mrs Audie Perry and Mr. aod Mrs. Paul Iverson. As Lloyd Scott is soon to leave for the Navl Air Corns, and Kenneth Campbell, for the army, their Young. People's class of the Christian Bible school held a swimming party a::d picnic at Nebraska City in their honor Sunday evening. Mrs. Nelson and son Eddie are spending a few days at the farm vith her brother, H. P. Johnson a.id fam ily near Nehawka. While Eddie is away Jack Frans is delivering the World-Heralds to his customers. Lucian Carper was transacting business in Omaha Monday morn ing and was accompanied to the city Ly Mrs. Carper, who had some shop ping to lcok after. Mr. and Mrs. Martin Sporer, Mary Kathciine, Martina, and Marilyn were among those present who as sisted Mr. and Mrs. Will Carey who reside west of Mynard, to celebrate their thirtieth weeding anniversary Sunday, when a large group of relatives were present. Charlene Spangler was an Omaha visitor Friday, where she was an1 invited guest, at a lunchecn at the Athletic club, homing her friend. Virginia Pearson, who will soii with her parents move to Jrsnd Is land to reside. Virginia will be re- i membered by a number of Murray people as she has visited Cbarlene here. j i Friday, June 16, was the tenth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Noel!. Some of their fiitjnds conceived the idea of assisting them to celebrate the event. Mrs. Noell was called to Omaha on business that day, and upon her return was sur prised to find the house filled with friends and relatives. At the close of the very enjoyable evening re freshments ot ice cream and cake were served. Roy Howard was taken to Omaha Friday by his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Meisinger to visit his mother, Mrs. Martha W tenkamp, whom he had not been able to see since his serious acci dent more than six months ago. The visit was a happy one for Roy as well as for his mother. J. D. Druecker was celebrating his sixth birthday Tuesday by en tertaining eighteen of his little friends at his home. Games were en joyed as only children can enjoy them. Many lovely gifts were pre sented to the young host to help him remember the occasion. A lovely lunch which had been prepared by his mother was served at the cloe of the afternoon. UNION ITEMS Qr Journal Field Representative Kate Warden of Nehawka was an overnight visitor with her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Wardens. Mrs. E. A. Fletcher, who has been siek for some time past, is showing some little improvement t.T. lest re port. Car, thij little son of Mr. and Mis. Dale Katnopp. has been having a tussde with the measles but is out atid fioing r.gain. He says they did n't make him very sk-k but he didn't like their company. Mr. and Mrs. J. Kirwin of Lin coln was snomling a few hours last week at the Lidgetts and Lynn homes. Mr. and Mrs. P. F. Rihn of Platsmottth was spending a few days with their many friends in and aiound Union. Grandma Upton, as she is known by her many friends, has been quite ill and kept to her bed, but last re poits say she is improving. Richard Copenbaver, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Copenhaver of Nebraska City is spending a part of his vacation with his grandmother, Mrs. Bt-tty Copenhaver, and Wesley, his uncle, in Union. Lucian Banning of Union was a business visitor in Omaha one day last wefk, going up in his car. Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Keedy of Ashland were visitors pt the W. rl.
